INSTRUMENTS FOR LIFETM

All our reusable laryngoscopes are covered with our unrivalled Lifetime Guarantee against faulty material or manufacture. Should any part of the system fail whilst being used for the intended purpose, we will simply repair or replace it free of charge. This guarantee applies throughout the working life of the instrument. Consumable parts such as bulbs and fibre optic cores, are not covered by the lifetime guarantee as they may deteriorate over a period of time.

The Timesco Neonatal and Paediatric Anaesthesia

& Laryngoscope Range.

When UK Anaesthetist Dr Frank Leonard Robertshaw (1918-1991), developed his laryngoscope, like E.H.Seward before and R.A.Miller before that, he had in mind the needs of both the infant and paediatric patient.

The Macintosh laryngoscope was invented with the adult patient in mind and although paediatric and neonatal sizes were later developed and manufactured, they were simply scaled down versions of the adult size - unlike the Robertshaw blade or for that matter the Seward, Miller, Oxford, Magill blades and others, such as the Cardiff blade all of which are/were specifically designed with the paediatric or neonatal patient in mind.

We have extended the range of products from laryngoscopy and intubation to include our ranges of stethoscopes, portable suction devices, rescusitation bags, face masks and forceps. We have also included a section on the

Clarus Paediatric Optical Stylet which we feel will be very useful to those interested in difficult airway management.

This brochure is not necessarily a complete solution to the needs of all neonatal and paediatric, but whether you are a clinician, nurse or other clinical team member we hope, nevertheless, that it will help you in making the right choice of Timesco product for this important patient group.

Graham Dodds

Orion Miller blade rear profile

O R I O N m i l l e r

O R I O N m a c i n t o s h

Our Orion blade brings standard light systems into the 21st century, its major benefits include ISO 7376 fitting. The Macintosh blade, developed by R. Macintosh in 1941, is the most popular blade in use for intubation of adult patients under normal circumstances. The curvature of the blade allows the tip to fall naturally into position in the vallecula of the patient and the wide flange assists in holding the tongue safely aside during intubation.

The Miller pattern blade is the most popular of the straight blade styles. This is especially true for paediatric use where the extended curve at the tip of the blade facilitates easy anterior lifting of the epiglottis which is comparatively larger and harder to control than in an adult patient. The straight design also allows a more direct view of the larynx, which can be of great benefit in cases of difficult intubation.

The curvature of the blade allows the tip to fall naturally into position in the vallecula of the patient and the wide flange assists in holding the tongue safely aside during intubation.

The Miller pattern blade, developed by Dr Robert Miller of San Antonio, Texas, is the most popular of the straight blade styles.

The fibre-optic core in Optima Clx ‘clicks’ in and out for easier disassembly and assembly; thus reducing the likelihood of protein deposits remaining after sterilisation.

The core is an average of 4mm in diameter and increases light output by over 25%.

The Robertshaw paediatric blade features a straight tongue with a gently curved tip, designed to lift the epiglottis indirectly. It is also beneficial for nasotracheal intubation as it facilitates the use of Magill forceps with a minimum loss of view.

The Wisconsin blade features a more open rear profile allowing even greater visualisation than the Miller blade.

The flange of the Wisconsin widens slightly towards the distal end to give better control of the epiglottis.

The Seward blade is similar in application and design to the Robertshaw blade but features a small Z-shaped flange.

The Oxford blade is suitable for premature infants and children up to the age of 4. The design prevents the lips from obscuring vision and the broad, flat flange is a major benefit in children with an extreme degree of cleft palate.

The Viewmax blade features a concave blade spatula, which actually allows an improved view of the larynx and surrounding structures. This enables the user to visualise the vocal cords without having to apply nearly as much lifting force to the handle.

2960.154.15 Optima Viewmax Child No.2 100x17mm

The tilting tip style Macintosh blade was designed for performing difficult intubations. Our Eclipse version of the blade, incorporating the Viewmax spatula profile and fibre optic light source, enables the user to see clearly and position the tip of the blade quickly and easily into the vallecula, using minimum force. The levered tilting tip can then be used to raise the epiglottis and offer comfortable access to the trachea for intubation.

Fibre optic illumination provides the user with a

bright, white light (courtesy of a 2.8v halogen bulb) which is

directed to exactly where illumination is needed by the fibre optic core.

Flexible tilting tip for clearer

visualisation even in cases of difficult airways.

O P T I M A m a g i l l

The Optima Magill blade is set to be angled 10 degrees towards the handle and features an open rear profile for greater visibility. The angling of the blade allows the user to exert force to open the airway in a more natural, horizontal direction when performing intubation. Due to the straight profile, improved visibility and flattened tip, these blades are especially useful for paediatric cases.

Just as the management of the difficult airway is a challenge in the adult patient, it is no less so in the Paediatric patient. The Clarus Shikani Paediatric Optical Stylet has been designed to fit the needs of paediatric and neonatal patients with pre-existing difficult airways; these include such conditions as Pierre Robin, Treacher Collins and Goldenhar syndromes.

The Stylet consists of a malleable stainless steel fibre-optic stem that comes in a pre-formed ‘J’ shape, an eyepiece that can be connected to any proximal camera system or used stand-alone and a simple adaptor enabling a laryngoscope handle to be used as the light source. The stylet is 27cm long and can accommodate a range of ETT from size 3.0 up to size 5.0 ID. 4000.100.90 Laryngoscope Handle / LED Adaptor SOS-Paed

The Res-Q-Vac is a hand-operated advanced suction system which provides a full range of suction options for every medical requirement. It consists of a high-quality non-electric suction pump and disposable canisters with appropriate catheters. The system is totally portable and has a very long shelf life providing suction anywhere and anytime it is needed.

• Wall suction level performance in a portable unit >600 mmHg

• Always ready to go - no set up required, no batteries to recharge or replace

• Powerful enough to suction in all situations

• Patented 0.22 equivalent micron filter ensures maximum infection control - complete range of catheters for all requirements (sterile/non-sterile)

• Convenient one-handed operation

In addition, the Res-Q-Vac is available with a patented Full Stop Protection* 0.22u HEPA style filter:

The system’s patented Full Stop Protection filter prevents all contamination (viral & bacterial), fluids or pathogens, from exiting the canister and contaminating the health professional or surrounding area. With the Full Stop Protection filter, fluids and pathogens can get into the bottle, but only clean air gets out. The Full Stop Protection filter eliminates overflow, and eliminates any contamination from entering the pump handle or running onto the user.

The Full Stop Protection filter reduces exposure and prevents the spread of infectious disease.

Forceps can be used to direct a tracheal tube into the larynx or a gastric tube or other device into the oesophagus. The Magill pattern is designed to enable the user to use the laryngoscope with their left hand while holding the forceps in their right.

The angle in the forceps between the handles and the jaws enables them to be used with the handles out of the direct line of sight.

All Timesco reusable Magill intubation forceps are fully autoclaveable and guaranteed for life.
