Circles is a relationship-based program designed to break genera-tional poverty. It matches low-income people with two middle-income partners
(Allies) who help broaden their social network, giv-ing access to people and resources they might never have. A Circles Volunteer Orientation is scheduled for Thu., June 27 from 7-8:15pm at St. Luke Lu-theran (4205 Washtenaw Ave.). There you will learn about local poverty, meet Allies and participants to hear how they’ve been impacted personally, and find out how you can best use your time and talents in the Circles program. Rsvp to Suzanne (734-340-9042/[email protected].)
Please join the Immigration Hospitality Team (IHT) and work with us on sanctuary efforts in our community! On Sun., June 30 you are invited to a community event, “Forum on Supporting Asylum-Seekers” from 2-5pm at Church of the Good Shepherd, United Church of Christ (2145 Independence Blvd.) A panel from Wayne State’s Asylum & Immigration Law Clinic will lead this event. Contact [email protected] for more informa-tion. Please plan to join us for our next meeting on Mon., Aug. 26 from 6:30-7:30pm at Green Wood – we’ll discuss sanctuary updates and upcoming training and education events.
The Youth Scrip table during the Summer will have a modified schedule: We will have scrip for sale during Lemonade on the Lawn June
23, July 28, and Aug. 11. Fundraising for Youth Mission trips continues throughout summer – You can purchase scrip online and reload cards at www.shopwithscrip.com. As you make your summer plans, don’t forget scrip can be used for gas, car rental, hotels, AirBNB, American and Delta airlines, Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruises, and Disney vacations. Support Youth Missions while having a relaxing and fun Summer! With questions contact Barbara Hoffman ([email protected]).
Summer Building Hours — Our buildings will be closed and locked at 4:30pm M-F through the
summer months. If your evening meeting is already scheduled, a staff member has been identified to give your group secure access.
June is the last month in our fiscal year. As of the end of May, the total of contributions we have received is $57,000 less than what we had antici-pated for this fiscal year. If you have some catching up to do on your pledges and giving, now is a good time to do that to help us end the year in the black. An online option for giving is available through the website.
Summer Rachel Held Evans Book Study —Will you miss the voice of Ra-chel Held Evans? Join us for a summer book study of her last book, Inspired. With honest questions and expert schol-arship, Evans wrestles with our favorite Bible stories, explores their contexts, and then connects these ancient stories to our present-day ones with-out checking her intellect--or her imagination--at the door. Meets Monday evenings June 24-July 29 at Green Wood; 6pm bring a sack dinner and eat in community; 6:30-7:30pm discussion led by Amy Kennedy and Debbie Houghton. (Let us know if you need childcare in order to participate!)
We are working on updating our annual phone directory! Please contact us if you DO NOT wish to include your email address and/or cell phone in the new directory — and please double-check to make sure your contact information is listed properly. We have partnered with Guide Book Publishing to provide this directory annually. This directory comes to your home free of charge.

Bulletin announcements are due by noon on Wednesdays. Send via email to [email protected] or call the church office, 662-4536.
As you plan your summer, don’t forget your pledge to the church.
Extend hospitality beyond worship by inviting a friend or neighbor to an up-coming church event. Extend hospitality after worship by inviting someone to join you at something. Buy them a cup of coffee at Con-nections. Invite them to today’s Adult Faith Forma-tion gathering. Have them join you for lunch at a local restaurant. Anything!
Summer worship help! We’re looking for people to assist the pastors in worship this summer when one pastor is away. Would you be willing to lead the call to worship? Do the Time with Children? Write and give a prayer? Contact Nancy for dates and in-formation! ([email protected]).
Our Life in the Church
Summer Brown Bag Study: The parables of Jesus are well known, beloved, and used to teach us all, from toddler to grandparent. Join us in July as we read the parables in a 5-week Brown Bag study. We will use both Amy-Jill Levine’s book, Short Stories By Jesus, and J. Ellsworth Kalas’s book, Parables from the Back Side to ask questions about these old stories. Meet us in the Chapel on Tuesdays July 2—July 30, at noon.
Lots of information comes from the church electronically, including weekly “Thursday Thoughts” emails. Sign up for different email lists at http://www.fumc-a2.org/getnews.
NEW DATE ADDED! Next Habitat build dates are
June 29, July 12, + Aug. 3!
Our 2019 Good News Habitat house project is moving along! To sign up to work on one of our remaining workdays see Mark Wickham this Sunday morning at Lemonade on the Lawn, or reach him at [email protected] | 810-599-6164.
Taking photos at FUMC
We are excited to see so many people taking photographs of congregational events that capture the beauty of our community. A quick reminder that photographs of children/youth under the age of 18 cannot be taken without parental permission. Photos of children/youth also cannot be posted on social media without parental permission. Thanks for making this a safe and welcoming place for all ages.
FUMC Income Progress Toward Our Goal Total giving for the month is $115K which is $21.6K above what we expected to receive.
Our year-to-date giving deficit is down to ($41K) which is the lowest it has been since February.

“In service, the experience of awe can and does happen just as powerfully. It just happens in the midst of the messiness of the
world instead of away from the world. In service learning, the Spirit works through people whose lives are so different from
mine (but not really), and a local community that has been willing to create space for the Spirit to work among and through them.
The work matters too, but not as much as this Spirit space.”
—Paul Hill, Executive Director of Vibrant Faith Ministries; President of Lutheran Outdoor Ministries

$20.23 for 2023 During the summer months we are holding a $20.23 campaign! We are asking 100 people to give $20.23 in honor of the incoming class of 2023. We would love for you to be one of those 100! Our staff and board of directors are commit-ted to giving, and we hope you’ll join us. Each year our funding continues to shift, and we rely more on individual givers. $2,023 would help us provide a warm welcome to our incoming
students and help support our ministry.
You may make your donation through our website https://www.umichwesley.org/support, through PayPal (https://tinyurl.com/wesleypaypal), or by writing a check
