Sixth Sunday of Easter
SAVE THE DATE! A Final Farewell to a Couple of Friends at
Our Lady of Victory Parish
Please join us on Sunday, June 11, as we remember all of the wonderful work that our Pastoral Associate, Kathryn Ling and Deacon, Ken Fry have done for OLV over these many years!
Each is taking a path towards a new journey in their life, but for one day, we will all be together to share stories and memories of their time here. A light reception to honor our friends will follow each Mass on Sunday, June 11.
We hope that you can join us for this special day!

OLV Victory Run On Saturday, June 3, we will host the 7th annual OLV Victory Run. It is a 5K Run/Walk for all levels of runners, joggers and walkers. The Fun Run (0.7 miles) begins at 8:00 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk follows the Fun Run and begins at 8:30 a.m. People here at OLV are always asking if there is anything they could do to help Fr. Denis. Here is your chance!! The proceeds from this event go to National Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS), the Pancreatic Cancer Action, OLV and the Sean English Fund. This event has grown each year not only with our own parishioners but within the Northville Community. Come and join the fun and support some very great causes. You can use the website and check out pictures from the past Victory Runs. Maybe you can find your friends or neighbors in the pictures. Discounted registration ends Sunday, May 21. You can continue registering through the day of the race by going online at www.olv-victoryrun.com. More information regarding the entire event, can be found at this website. Please check it out. Volunteers are still needed for the event. For OLV School families, your time will count towards your 2017-18 OLV Service Hours requirement.
Attention: Altar Servers Just a couple of reminders
• The current Altar Server schedule will end the weekend of June 4-5.
• We have recently trained 24 new servers. I am asking that all seasoned servers to please assist them as they begin to help in this ministry.
• If you did not get scheduled as much as you would have liked during the school year, you will have more opportunity during the summer months. Over the summer, we do not have scheduled Altar Servers. Please check in every time you come to Mass and the first 3 will be able to serve. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before Mass. This helps us to not have to announce that we are in need of servers.

Please join us at the next meeting of OLV’s SVdP Conference on Tuesday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m., in the Martha Mary Room. Please help us do more for the destitute individuals and families in our community.

This Sunday’s gospel is one filled with many layers. First, it focuses on loving Jesus and what we must do to show our love for him. The answer is seemingly simple; to follow the Ten Commandments but when we reflect upon the nuances of that which we received from God himself, we quickly realize the
challenges of doing so. For instance, if we accept that we are loved by God and in return love him above all things then we must also accept his love for others—for to love someone is to know them and our God asks nothing more than to give what has been given to us. If we hear the law “do not kill” we must struggle with the lure of gossip, prejudice and stereotypes which serve to hold people in a certain place. When we do not fight this instinct, we in essence “kill” the chance of another to pursue life as God wishes squandering their potential and the gifts they have been called to share.
Secondly, we find Jesus in this passage preparing his disciples for when he will not be with us. Imagine what they must have felt. It had been a roller coaster of sorts, first losing him on that frightening day of his death and the elation of finding him with them, once again on Easter Sunday. Now he is leaving to go back to God the Father.
As we would expect however, Jesus would not leave them abandoned and would ask the Father to send a helper who will stay with them forever. It is this helper the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who is with us still breathing the Father’s and the Son’s life into us and constantly showing the way to true happiness. Finally, we hear Jesus in the most stunning phrase of this gospel passage tell us “you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.” We, who are imperfect and struggle every day are still deemed worthy to have within the presence of God. What a beautiful profession of love. Isn’t it a great gift to know that Jesus resides in us? All he asks is that we love him in return and share that love in our family, our workplace, school, and neighborhood and of course the world. This can be daunting work but one that can be put into practice every day in even the smallest of ways. It is evident when family members help each other, share their struggles, and find ways to be of service to those outside of their own homes.
The Easter season is a time to rejoice in all that Jesus promises. He draws us intimately into the life he
shares with God, the Father and the Spirit. He is with us and loves us and will share all that life brings our way. We just need to open the doors to that love and allow his light to fill us! Alleluia!

Permanent Diaconate Men considering the permanent diaconate
are invited to learn more about this vocation and the requirements for ordination at an information night at St. Paul of Tarsus Parish, Clinton Twp., this Wednesday, May 24. Permanent deacons are a familiar site in our parishes, where they assist the priest at Mass by preaching the Gospel and delivering the homily. They may also celebrate funerals, take Communion to the homebound, and coordinate the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Some permanent deacons serve as chaplains at hospitals and colleges. Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal support the Office for Clergy and Consecrated Life, and the Permanent Diaconate Information Team, as well as provide assistance for men in formation at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. For more information about CSA-funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to www.AOD.org.
2017 Catholic serviceS appeal The 2017 CSA pledge and prayer cards, along with a letter from Fr. Denis, have been mailed out. This year the AOD has set our quota at $194,469. Please prayerfully consider the most generous gift possible to support the 2017 CSA. You may bring your completed pledge card to Mass next weekend or drop it by the parish office. You may also pledge your gift to our parish’s campaign online, using your debit or credit card, at http://olv.aodcsa.org. Thank you for your support!

Social Mass Storybooks and Soothing Tools Are Available OLV’s Special Needs Ministry has created tote bags which are located in the Gathering Space. The four bags are hanging near our children’s book rack just outside the priest’s sacristy. Each bag has a social Mass storybook inside along with some fidget toys/soothing tools for any child in need of such items. Please feel free to pick up a bag before Mass and return it to the wall hook once Mass is over. Thank you to our Stitching Busybodies Ministry for sewing the tote bags and our Special Needs Ministry for furnishing the items inside the bags. KNIGHTLY NEWS The Knights of Columbus initiative, Building The Domestic Church, has at its core the ongoing support and nurturing of Catholic family life. The Knights at Our Lady of Victory Parish are now offering 15 booklets with each one addressing a topic such as; What is Prayer?, an introduction to Pope St. John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, St.
Joseph as a model for all Christians, and 101 Questions and Answers concerning Christian doctrine and practice just to name a few. There are multiple copies of each booklet available, free of charge, to everyone in our Parish. These small books can be read quite easily during the week. Choose a topic of interest, read the booklet, bring it back the following Sunday and pick up a new one for the next week ahead. In a very short span of time you can increase your knowledge of Church teachings and discover numerous ways to strengthen your family life and your relationship with Jesus. Our brand new kiosk library containing all of these fine booklets is available near the Gathering Space. Take another step toward expanding your Catholic faith by picking up a book today and sharing the Good News!
