Gods Gift of the Family LET US help one another to make it possible to stake everything on love.Let us help one another at times of difficulty and lighten each others burdens. Let us support one another. Let us be families that are a support for other families. PERFECT FAMILIES do not exist. This must not discourage us. Quite the opposite. Love is something we learn; love is something we live; love grows as it is forgedby the concrete situations that each par- ticular family experiences. Love is born and constantly develops amid lights and shadows. Love can flourish in men and women who try not to make conflict the last word, but rather a new opportunity—an opportunity to seek help, an opportunity to question how we need to improve, an opportunity to discover the God who is with us and never abandons us. This is a great legacy that we can give to our children, a very good lesson: we make mistakes, yes; we have problems, yes. But we know that is not really what counts. We know that mistakes, problems, and conflicts are an opportunity to draw closer to others, to draw closer to God. FOR THE Church, the family is not first and foremost a cause for concern, but rather the joyous confir- mation of Gods blessing upon the masterpiece of creation. Every day, all over the world, the Church can rejoice in the Lords gift of so many families who, even amid difficult trials, remain faithful to their promises and keep the faith! WE WOULD be mistaken, however, to see this cultureof the present world as mere indifference to- ward marriage and the family, as pure and simple selfishness. Are todays young people hopelessly timid, weak, and inconsistent? We must not fall into this trap. Many young people, in the context of this culture of discouragement, have yielded to a form of unconscious acquiescence. They are afraid—deep down— paralyzed before the beautiful, noble, and truly necessary challenges. God’s Gift of the Family

LET US help one another to make it possible to “stake everything on love.” Let us help one another at

times of difficulty and lighten each other’s burdens. Let us support one another. Let us be families that

are a support for other families.

PERFECT FAMILIES do not exist. This must not discourage us. Quite the opposite. Love is something

we learn; love is something we live; love grows as it is “forged” by the concrete situations that each par-

ticular family experiences. Love is born and constantly develops amid lights and shadows. Love can

flourish in men and women who try not to make conflict the last word, but rather a new opportunity—an

opportunity to seek help, an opportunity to question how we need to improve, an opportunity to discover

the God who is with us and never abandons us. This is a great legacy that we can give to our children, a

very good lesson: we make mistakes, yes; we have problems, yes. But we know that is not really what

counts. We know that mistakes, problems, and conflicts are an opportunity to draw closer to others, to

draw closer to God.

FOR THE Church, the family is not first and foremost a cause for concern, but rather the joyous confir-

mation of God’s blessing upon the masterpiece of creation. Every day, all over the world, the Church can

rejoice in the Lord’s gift of so many families who, even amid difficult trials, remain faithful to their

promises and keep the faith!

WE WOULD be mistaken, however, to see this “culture” of the present world as mere indifference to-

ward marriage and the family, as pure and simple selfishness. Are today’s young people hopelessly timid,

weak, and inconsistent? We must not fall into this trap. Many young people, in the context of this culture

of discouragement, have yielded to a form of unconscious acquiescence. They are afraid—deep down—

paralyzed before the beautiful, noble, and truly necessary challenges.

Hurricane Harvey As you know, Hurricane Harvey has caused unprecedented and

catastrophic damage to the Houston and southeastern Texas re-

gion. Recovery will take years. Not only our prayers, but our fi-

nancial assistance is urgently needed to assist victims, help in the

massive recovery effort and provide pastoral and rebuilding sup-

port to impacted dioceses.

Our parish will conduct a Second Collection at Masses the week-

end of Sept 9 and 10. Please make out your check to this parish

with HOUSTON in the memo field. All funds will be forwarded to

the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and used to as-

sist in recovery and rebuild efforts. Please give generously.

_____________________________________________________ Holy Hour September 24, 2017

Our next monthly holy hour will be on Sunday, September 24,

2017. As we all get busy it is even more important to extend our

time of prayer and solitude. The adoration of the Eucharist is a

great opportunity to keep a balance between busy and at peace.

Suggested Method for an Hour of Adoration

At the center of Eucharistic devotion is Jesus, our Way, Truth, and

Life. Jesus not only proclaims himself our Truth, because in him

we discover the loving face of God. Jesus is the Way, to the Father

not just by his example but also because he walks with us on our

daily journey. As our Life, Jesus saves us from sin and invites us

to experience the fullness of life in him. Our deepening relation-

ship with Jesus, Way, Truth, and Life, transforms us and our rela-

tionships: we become more loving and committed to advancing

the kingdom of God here on earth.

The following method for making an hour of adoration is inspired

by the Pauline spirituality of Blessed James Alberione, Founder of

the Pauline Family. He wrote: “The hour of adoration is our time

each day for a private ‘audience’ with Jesus: we meet him and

enter into intimate conversation with him.”

The Pauline hour of adoration has three parts or “moments,” based

on Jesus’ definition of himself as Way, Truth, and Life.

(To be continued under the same title next month) _____________________________________________________ St. Joseph’s Altar/Rosary next meeting will be on Tuesday,

September 12th at 7:00 pm. The rosary will be said first, followed

by our regular meeting. Snacks are provided. We welcome any

new members to our group. Please come and share your time and

talents.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development On September 17, our second collection will be for the Catholic

Campaign for Human Development. Over 46 million people in

the United States live in poverty. This collection supports pro-

grams to empower people to identify and address the obstacles

they face as they work to lift themselves out of poverty. By sup-

porting this collection you give people a hand up, not a hand out.

ment at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection.

_____________________________________________________ Purpose of life is to purify, not satisfy. Edward Leen writes in his book, In the Likeness of Christ:

The true disciple of the Divine Master does not desist

from his efforts to create in himself and around himself the reign

of justice, because he is thwarted and cannot have his own way in

dealing with circumstance. He realizes that things are all wrong

not when he cannot have his way with things, but when God can-

not have his own way with him. We are not meant to mold per-

sons and events to our will, but rather to be molded by life’s con-

tacts to the form preordained for us by God. If we achieve great

things outside of ourselves, and the achieving of them does not

affect any change or development in ourselves, we have done

nothing. Life’s purpose is to purify us, not gratify us.
