Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church August 11, 2019

From the Pastor:

You may have heard Blessed John Henry Newman’s name in the news. He will soon be counted among the saints -- he will be canonized this coming October. Here he helps us get our lives in order so that we might live forever with God in Heav-en, too:

Year passes after year silently; Christ’s coming is ever nearer than it was. O that, as He comes nearer earth, we may ap-proach nearer Heaven! O, my brethren, pray Him to give you the heart to seek Him in sincerity. Pray Him to make you in earnest. You have one work only: to bear your cross after Him. Resolve in His strength to do so…. Pray Him to give you what Scripture calls “an honest and good heart,” or “a perfect heart,” and, without waiting, begin at once to obey Him with the best heart you have…. Any religion which does not bring you nearer to God is of the world. You have to seek His face; obedience is the only way of seeking Him…. If we have for-gotten Him, He will not know us; but “blessed are those serv-ants whom the Lord, when He comes shall find watching”…. Life is short; death is certain and the world to come is ever-lasting.

Live for God and He will transfigure you into His love for the world. Be His instrument of love by receiving His love and seeking to only be His love for others.

God bless you and your week!

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

At long last we’ve found a way for each of you to have your own “Round Tuit”! Just clip and save! Guard it with your life! Don’t let anyone take it away from you! Tuits – especially the round ones— are hard to come by!

Now that you have one, involvement in our parish activities should double or even triple! Many have said you would become more in-volved when you were able to get a round tuit. Others have said , “Father, I know going to daily Mass is a great goal, but I never seem to get a round tuit”. Still others have said, “Father, I know I have a fairly good voice and should join the Choir, but I’ve been so busy and haven’t gotten a round tuit.”

There are many other opportunities that we’ve let slip through our fingers – but that is all in the past! Each of you now has his or her own round tuit so we know that there are great things in store for OLSH!

Weekly Quote from St. Philip Neri

"St. Peter and the other apostles and apostolic men, seeing the Son of God born in poverty, and then living so absolutely without anything, that He had nowhere to lay His Head, and contemplating Him dead and naked on a cross, stripped themselves also of all things, and took the road of the evangelical counsels."

Last week to Donate !!!

OLSH helps Children go BACK TO SCHOOL WITH DIGNITY

Each year People to People sponsors the “Back to School with Dignity” program, providing, in addition to food, school supplies for children so that they can begin their new school year as ready and prepared as their classmates. At a recent event I heard one of the People to People Volunteers sharing with her colleagues that the people of OLSH are amazingly generous and one of their biggest supporters!! Last year the OLSH parish family in addition to monetary contributions, do-nated several thousand dollars worth of backpacks and school supplies of every kind !!!

We would like your help with this wonderful program again. Through this Sunday, August 11, we will have a box in the back of the church for your donations. As you shop for school supplies for your own children or grandchildren, or just miss those school shopping days, please see the list below and pick up some extra items for these families. If you would like to make a monetary dona-tion for this wonderful project, please write a check made out to People to People and place it in the collection basket in an envelope marked “Back to School with Dignity” Thank you for helping these youngsters begin the year with a smile!
