Because there is such a need. With increased mobility and the fast pace of modern life, the family has taken a very hard hit. Other factors have also led to the disintegration of the family. The sexual revolution brought about a fundamental change in traditional sexual roles in the family. Artifi- cial contraception and abortion have shifted the understanding of sexual identity. This sexual freedom has brought about more infidelity in marriage. Quick, "no fault" divorce has split marriage, broken homes, and broken hearts. Consequently, an increasing number of young people are choosing not to marry or are marrying much later. More and more people are living alone and moving from city to city and are rootless, lonely, and confused. The family is vital for human happiness, and the extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews all living close by is a thing of the past. The Catholic Church offers an alternative: that we might live together as brothers and sisters in a caring community that brings light, life, support, and love to those who belong to the community. However, this requires effort. Our families should have their children in our parish school. Our families should send their children to our Middle School and High School Youth Groups. Men should join the Fellowship of St Joseph. Individuals should help to support the elderly, the young, and those who are sick, housebound, and alone. Here at Our Lady of the Rosary we are doing all we can to build this caring community and part of our efforts this year will be to launch "Our Lady's Local Groups". Very simply, we will let you know who the OLR parishioners are in your local area, and we will nurture these small groups as little cells of prayer, fellowship, and mutual concern. We will give you more information on this initiative as it develops, but if you would like to know more about how you can help organize this effort please be in touch with our parish Director of Communications, Donna Craft.
