The Catholic Church is the Church founded by
Jesus Christ; it is the same Church mentioned in the New
Testament of the Christian Bible. The term "Catholic"
means "according to the whole;" it was used early in the
Church's history to distinguish her from a number of
other gatherings whose teachings and practices were not
true to the authoritative teachings of Christ's apostles. All
human persons are invited and encouraged to accept the
salvation offered by Jesus through His one, holy, catholic
and apostolic Church by living the sacramental life offered
by the Catholic Church. It is the mission of Our Lady of
the Prairie Catholic Church to offer this life to the people
of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and its environs.
If you would like to become Catholic, please contact Fr.
Brian Lynch in person or by email at: [email protected].
Fourth Sunday of Easter May 12, 2019
A Message from the Pastor...
THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST ICON
Our icon of our Risen Lord was made or written in
Bulgaria in the Russian style. I am grateful to our CCW for
commissioning and acquiring it.
It says the “Resurrection of Christ” in Russian script across the top of the image.
In it Jesus stands as the Victorious Risen Lord, the
Conqueror of sin, death, and Satan. He holds a flowing
battle standard as the sign of his victory, on it is his Holy
Cross - the weapon he turned against the powers of
darkness to defeat them. For the few of you who might
appreciate martial arts, Jesus the Lamb of God is the
ultimate Jujitsu master. Satan tried to destroy Jesus with
the violent torture of the cross, but by submitting to
death and loving the Father and his enemies to the very
end, Christ has turned the weapon against Satan and
delivered the fatal blow.
He stands on the Gates of the Hell, which he has
thrown down. These gates had held Adam and Eve,
Abraham and Sarah, and other patriarchs and prophets as
captives of the Devil, but by his Death and Resurrection,
Jesus has trampled these gates and set the Old Testament
saints free.
His head is surrounded by the tri-radiant cruciform
halo, which itself is rich in symbolism as it declares the
Divinity of the Risen Jesus. The three visible arms of the
cross recall the Trinity with the three Greek letters spell “I AM” - the name of God revealed to Moses.
He is clothed in the flowing white robe of Resurrection
and his whole being is surrounded by a mandorla
representing the glory that accompanies his divinity.
This is the same Jesus who was crucified on Good
Friday as is evident by he visible yet healed and glorified
wounds in his hands and feet. He holds his left hand in
blessing: the tips of his thumb,
pinky, and ring finger together
as a sign of the Trinity while the
other two represent his human
and divine natures.
I hope you will enjoy this
image of the great mystery we
celebrate this glorious Easter
season.
All the Best in Christ,
Fr. Brian Lynch

SPEND AN HOUR WITH JESUS! Consider being a regular Eucharistic Adorer. We
are blessed to have a chapel and need adorers to
keep it going. Hours are Tuesdays and Wednes-
days from 9 am to 11 pm and Thursdays 7 pm to
11 pm.
“Adoration has enhanced every aspect of my hec-tic life. I am now a much calmer and joyful person.
My relationship with Jesus has grown weekly and
in ways unimaginable. It is amazing that the more I
pray, the more I need Him. The more I need Him, the more happy,
humble, obedient and contented I become. He is much more alive
in every part of my life each day.”

EXACTLY WHO ARE THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AND WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO JOIN?
Charity is the first principle of the Knights of Columbus.
Knights are men who get things done. We volunteer our time to
serve our parishes and communities. By working together, we
donated more than $1.5 billion and 691 million volunteer hours

parish with its needs; support programs that benefit people with
intellectual disabilities, we save lives through initiatives such as
the “ultrasound program”, and we serve as an example to our own children. We are a unique “band of brothers” who accom-plish great things together that one cannot accomplish alone.
Express your faith through our activities of charity, unity, and
fraternity. Protect the financial future of your family through the
Knights exclusive, top-rated life and disability insurance pro-
grams. Join the Knights today.
