Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

November 19, 2017 First reading: Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31 Second reading: Thessalonians 5:1-6 Gospel: Matthew 25:14-15, 19-21 (Shorter) A reading from the Book of Proverbs When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. She brings him good, and not evil, all the days of her life. She obtains wool and flax and works with loving hands. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle. She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy. Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting; the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her a reward for her labors, and let her works praise her at the city gates. A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters, you have no need for anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night. When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief. For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew .Jesus told his disciples this parable: "A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one --to each according to his ability. Then he went away. After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them. The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.' His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'"

Religious Education Office Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time November 12, 2017 Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew 25:1-13 Reflecting in God’s Word Sometimes we grow impatient when we read the scriptures that anticipate Christ's return. After all, it's been two thousand years and not a word! It's easy for all of us to be lulled into complacency by such silence. But we not only have a responsibility to ourselves to be prepared, we must impress upon our children the importance of being ready for Jesus when he returns. One way to do this is show our children how the Kingdom of God has already begun. Even though the Kingdom is not complete yet, we can point out signs where life today is in some ways already like the Kingdom. For example people loving one another, caring for one another, and reaching out to one another in kindness, are all ways that point toward the coming Kingdom. Bringing the Gospel Into your Family As a family, commit to work together to bring about God's Kingdom. Think about one person you know at school, at work, or in your neighborhood who might not be ready for Christ's return. Reach out to them with a gesture or act that will show them God's love. At the evening meal, or bedtime prayers, share with one another how you were a symbol of the coming Kingdom today. Question of the Week Children: ¿Is there something coming up this week that you could be better prepared for? What might happen if you do not prepare? Adults: ¿When have you regretted that you did not look ahead and foresee the consequences of an action? Pregunta de la semana Niños: ¿Hay algo pendiente esta semana para lo cual podrías estar mejor preparado? ¿Qué podría suceder si no te preparas? Adultos: ¿Cuándo ha lamentado no anticipar y prever las consecuencias de una acción? A special "Thank You" to all the Parents, Catechist, Assistant Catechist and the children that participated in "All Saints" Mass this past Wednesday.

DID YOU KNOW? Family travel safety rules If you’re traveling to spend Thanksgiving with friends or family, it’s important that everyone in your group is up to speed on travel safety, and this safety starts at home. Make sure you have plans in place that let friends and family know where you’re headed, and set up your house to look “lived-in” when you’re on the road. Teach kids to pack smart—avoid bringing unneeded valuables and carry only the necessary ID cards and money in the event of an emergency.
