The Test of Faith

“It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”

These are unexpected words from a loving God. We see in the reading that Jesus is testing the faith of the Canaanite woman. While the disciples are encouraging Jesus to send her away, she persists in her plea for mercy to rid her daughter of the demon. And after Jesus’ harsh words to her, she refuses to be shamed. Her love for her daughter and faith in the healing power of Jesus gives her the courage to persevere in the face of rejection. Jesus recognizes the depth of her faith and grants her petition - her daughter is instantly healed.

How strong is our faith? Are we persistent in our prayers? What are we doing to grow our faith?

We have a great opportunity here at OLL for you beginning in September. Join us for the Alpha course that will meet every Monday evening and explore the Christian faith in an informal and friendly environment. We’ll begin with a meal, followed by a talk and small group discussion time. It’s free and all are welcome. Pastoral Ministry

West Suburban Grief Coalition Meets at Trinity Lutheran Church 2060 Seventh Avenue North (County Road 6) Long Lake • 952.473.8577 The group meets on Thursdays from 4:30 - 6:00pm. Aug. 24th: Hope After Suicide Death Aug. 31st: Small Group Sharing

Welcome the Disciples: Liturgy flourishes in a climate of hospitality, a situation in which people are comfortable with one another, either knowing or being introduced to one another. All are involved as participants, not as spectators. (Environment and Art in Catholic Worship) The Liturgy Committee is anticipating someone will step forward to coordinate the Greeters. Are you a candidate?

Did you know that OLL has an email and phone Prayer Chain? Parishioners are invited to call the Parish Office to request prayers for those in need. *We require permission of those being prayed for, & forward the request to the prayer minister. If preferred, the person’s name can remain anonymous. Our prayers are powerful! If you would like to be part of the Prayer Ministry team, contact Dana in the Parish Office.

Bulletin Update: The weekend of August 26th/27th we are renewing the list of names in the bulletin of those in need and those serving in the military. If you wish to have someone continued or added, contact Dana in the Parish Office by August 22nd. Thanks!

Liturgy and Life: The Canaanite woman did not give up. When have you persisted in calling out to God?

The Assembly of Believers: Among the symbols with which liturgy deals, none is more important than the assembly of believers. In the words of ancient Christians, the building used for worship is called domus ecclesia, the house of the Church. (Environment and Art in Catholic Worship)

We pray for those in need. Please keep the following individuals in your prayers:

Chris A. Dolores Kelly Laura Andersen Andra Olson Al Blackwell Maddie Poranski Bob Blake Bobby Reil Dan Entinger Adam Richardt Kathy Gnitka Mike Schulz Barbara Ann Johnson

Stewardship Thought

“For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.” - Romans 11:29

God has a special mission in mind for each of us. He has given us the gifts we need to accomplish that mission. We are called to be good stewards by using those gifts to do the work that

He has planned for each of us. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as God calls us to use them, then some part of His work will be left undone.
