In thanksgiving for the canonization of Saint John Henry Newman (feast day October 9 canonization October 13) Musica Sacra San Antonio under the direction of Dr Owen Duggan offers choral evensong This celebratory liturgy will include music featuring the texts and poetry of John Henry Newman As an Anglican priest and fellow at Oriel College Oxford Newman advocated for the Anglican Church to return to its Catholic roots After his later conversion to Catholicism he made significant contributions to the Catholic Church as a writer liturgist and hymnist
The service will feature choral works by English composers Thomas Morley George Dyson and John Ireland Also works by Russian composer Alexander Gretchaninov and Renaissance composer Giovanni Maria Nanino will be per-formed Music director Owen Duggan will conduct and Bill Benefield is organist
A reception will follow in the St John Paul II library
