YEAR OF MERCY SIXTH WEEK OF LENT

“I was in prison and you visited me.” There all different kind of prisons. We usually think of jail but a prison can be anything that keeps you feeling alone, stops you from leaving your space, or limits you from growing. For example, someone who is in a care home and does not get any visitors is in a prison of loneliness as is a child who is always alone on the playground. Consider a donation equal to a gift or service you might give someone who is in a long-term care home, confined to their own home, in prison, in a wheelchair, or somehow isolated and unable to leave their ‘space’. (i.e. a magazine or book to read, a puzzle, music, etc.)

2016 for the benefit of the Holy Land Our parish, once a year on Good Friday, is called to support Christians in the Holy Land. Many Christians in the Holy Land depend on the collection for their lives. As a Pontifical collection requested by Pope Francis, the annual Good Friday Collection offers a direct link for parishioners to be a witness of peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you donate on Good Friday, you are supporting Christians in the Holy Land. “He, who does acts of mercy, let him do them with cheerfulness.” Rm. 12, 8 With Gratitude Father Gilles Bourdeau, OFM Commissary of the Holy Land in Canada

PASTOR’S MESSAGE This Sunday is usually called Palm Sunday, nowadays it is called either Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday, or together it is called Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. Whatever it is called, the importance is that this Sunday marks the start of the Holy Week in which the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Jesus Christ in the lasts days of his life on earth, beginning with his messianic entrance into Jerusalem. This Sunday also marks the end of Lent. At the beginning of today's celebration, the Church re-enacts Jesus' solemn entrance into Jerusalem. People with great enthusiasm holding palm and branches, spreading cloaks on the road (Lk 19.36) praise him with a loud voice: "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!" (Lk 19.37). We take this great opportunity to reflect on our own lives that are not different from the crowd who praised Jesus with great enthusiasm and not too long after asked Pilate to crucify Him and release Barabbas a murder with a loud shout. This Sunday is called Passion Sunday as the passion is read to invite us to meditate throughout this Holy Week on the suffering and crucifixion that Jesus endured for our salvation Our Christian life is a process of learning to follow Jesus. It is not a certain moment of emotion rather with constancy and perseverance until the end of our lives. We should try to deepen ourselves into the mystery of Christ. This Sunday is also instituted by St. Pope John Paul II as World Day of Youth. The Church invites the youth to offer their great energy to learn and follow Jesus so they may be able to witness to the world with their enthusiasm: It is good to follow Jesus! History has shown us that the youth can transform the world into either good or bad ways depending on how are they directed. We must pray for ourselves and for the youth on this special Sunday so we all may live our faith with a young heart. Sincerely yours in Christ Fr. Peter Thang Nguyen
