Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

4 204

On Monday, June 29, on the Solemnity of the Apostles Sts. Peter and St. Paul, all of the Churches in the Diocese of Allentown will go into the “green phase.” For our Church, that means, we will have an increased capacity of 120 people in Church. We will use every other pew to allow for adequate spacing. We will use the side parking lot as an overflow if we reach our capacity. We ask that you continue to wear masks. If you feel ill or exhibit any of the symptoms, please remain home. We will continue to live stream a Mass and post it to our parish website. While providing for everyone’s safety, we want to allow for the “active participation” in the Mass and to make the reception of Holy Communion available to you.

I spoke to a grandparent whose newborn grandchild was born premature. The baby has to remain in the NICU. Thanks to technology, the family is able to see the child 24/7 through a live-streamed camera. It is a beautiful thing. It is a convenient thing. It is a safe thing. Under the circumstances, it allows for the family to maintain a visual contact with the baby. It allows for one to be reassured the baby is safe. But what is the deepest desire of the mother, the father, the grandparents and other family? They want to hold the baby, to kiss the baby, to be in the physical presence of the baby. The desire of the family grows each day. The yearning to be close to the baby intensifies. The family does not want to maintain the current situation. They long to be reunited with their precious child.

I can’t help but think that there is a lesson for us during this pandemic. Thanks to technology, we have been able to watch the Mass. We have been able to hear the Word of God proclaimed. We have listened to the Sacrifice of the Mass. We have made a Spiritual Communion. All of these things are good under the circumstances. However, they are not the same as being present at Mass. Do our hearts yearn to be reunited with Jesus? Does our desire grow to worship God together as a community?

Yes, we believe Jesus is close to us. He hears us. He watches over us. Jesus is with us. Yet, Jesus longs for more. If I could offer this thought, when we receive Holy Communion and we are focused and intentional about what is happening, Jesus embraces us. He hugs

us. He holds us. He is sacramentally present. That is, he is close to us in a unique way, a physical presence. Jesus longs to reunite himself to you in this great sacrament. He longs for your return. May the desire of our hearts intensify and grow for the moment we reunite with Him in Holy Communion.

See you at Church!

Fr. Keith

Parish Prayer for the month of June

To the Sacred Heart

Hail! O Sacred Heart of Jesus, living and quickening source of eternal life, infinite

treasure of the Divinity, and burning furnace of divine love.

Thou art my refuge and my sanctuary, O my amiable Savior.

Consume my heart with that burning fire with which Thine is ever inflamed.

Pour down on my soul those graces which flow from Thy love, and let my heart be so

united with Thine, that our wills may be one, and mine in all things, be conformed to

Thine. May Thy divine will be equally the standard

and rule of all my desires and of all my actions. Amen.

Tú eres mi refugio y mi santuario, oh mi amable Salvador.

Reading 1 2 KGS 4:8-11, 14-16A One day Elisha came to Shunem, where there was a woman of influence, who urged him to dine with her. Afterward, whenever he passed by, he used to stop there to dine. So she said to her husband, “I know that Elisha is a holy man of God. Since he visits us often, let us arrange a little room on the roof and furnish it for him with a bed, table, chair, and lamp, so that when he comes to us he can stay there.” Sometime later Elisha arrived and stayed in the room overnight.

Later Elisha asked, “Can something be done for her?” His servant Gehazi answered, “Yes! She has no son, and her husband is getting on in years.” Elisha said, “Call her.” When the woman had been called and stood at the door, Elisha promised, “This time next year you will be fondling a baby son.”

Responsorial Psalm PS 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19 R. (2a) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord. The promises of the LORD I will sing forever, through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness. For you have said, “My kindness is established forever;” in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness. R. Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord. Blessed the people who know the joyful shout; in the light of your countenance, O LORD, they walk. At your name they rejoice all the day, and through your justice they are exalted. R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord. You are the splendor of their strength, and by your favor our horn is exalted. For to the LORD belongs our shield, and the Holy One of Israel, our king. R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord. Reading 2 ROM 6:3-4, 8-11 Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead

by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.

If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

Alleluia 1 PT 2:9 R. Alleluia, alleluia. You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation; announce the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel MT 10:37-42 Jesus said to his apostles: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

"Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Oración a San Miguel Arcángel

apertura. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPE5P3D1bTQ&feature=you

Tips to Protecting Yourself If Someone in Your Home Has Covid-19

Because the total number of cases of COVID-19 in the United States is well over 1 million, it is important for us to be prepared on how to protect ourselves and other family members should someone in our household become diagnosed with COVID-19.

While many details and facts about COVID-19 are changing on a daily basis, there are facts that haven’t changed. COVID-19 is primarily spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. If you are within a minimum of 6 feet of an ill person, it is likely that you may breathe in some of the respiratory droplets. The droplets occur when someone coughs, sneezes or speaks (these droplets are not visible to the naked eye). Additionally, the droplets may fall onto commonly touched surfaces: cell phones, laptops, desks, door knobs, handles—just to name a few. Then, someone comes along and touches the contaminated surface and unsuspectedly rubs their nose, eyes, or mouth and becomes exposed to COVID-19.

If someone in your home becomes ill with COVID-19, it’s important to protect all members of your household from becoming ill as well. Tips to protect yourself and other household members include:

Separate yourself. Limit contact with the ill person as much as possible—while still caring for the person who is ill. If you can stay in a separate area of the house and use a different bedroom and bathroom, that would be ideal.

Make sure that you have good ventilation—like an open window. Doctors have discovered that the respiratory droplets can linger in the air for several hours.

Separate commonly used items. Items such as dishes, utensils, cups, towels and bedding should be thoroughly washed with hot water and bleach

(when appropriate). Use disposable gloves when handling contaminated items. Also, the ill person should use the same items after thoroughly cleaned vs. mixing the items other household members may use.

Use a lined trash can to dispose of the ill person’s trash separately than other trash.

Disinfect and clean frequently. Items to daily disinfect include: countertops, refrigerator handles, tabletops, doorknobs, cabinet and drawer hardware, desks, bedside tables, light switches, remote controls, computer/tablets/keyboards, headphones, cell phones, sink faucets, toilet handles, and soap dispensers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a list of cleaning products that are safe to use around the house. Also, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offers tips on how to effectively clean.

If sharing a bathroom with an ill household member, disinfect the area after each use. Wear a mask and gloves and wait as long as possible before entering to clean the bathroom.

Wear a face mask and gloves when interacting with the ill household member. Also, the ill person should wear a mask when anyone is in their area.

Minimize face-to-face and hand-to-hand contact by placing meals and drinks outside of the door vs. handing the items directly to the ill person.

Maintain open communication with the ill person’s physician. Keep the physician updated on current symptoms to determine if hospitalization is needed.

If you are living with someone who has COVID-19, it’s important to quarantine yourself for a minimum of 14 days.

Monitor your own health for symptoms for COVID-19.

* It’s important to stay current with all information and guidance provided by the CDC, your physician, and your local health

department. *
