A Letter from the Pastor’s Desk…
Dear Friends:
In another part of this bulletin, you'll find a letter from Parish Outreach Director Corinne
Lok. Corinne gives us an update of her health and progress in her battle with cancer. I
know she is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support, love and prayers she has re-
ceived since being diagnosed. Corinne has been a true gift to our parish and we hope for only good health for
her future.
I want to also thank our staff and volunteer parishioners for the wonderful job they've done in keeping things
going strong at the Outreach Office. In the absence of Corinne, they have made sure that the needful are still
cared for and assisted. I am so grateful for their goodness.
And while I'm offering thanks, let me also express congratulations to parishioner Sue Bouffier. She recently
received a letter from Bishop Barres announcing that she is the 2018 recipient of the diocesan St. Agnes Medal
of Service. Each year the diocese selects one person in each parish to celebrate and thank for their dedicated
service to the parish. Sue Bouffier, at many levels of service, has shown amazing devotion to the spiritual wel-
fare of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish through the years.
On Sunday, October 28th, Sue will be presented with her St. Agnes Medal by Bishop John O. Barres at St.
Agnes Cathedral. On behalf of a grateful parish, I want to congratulate and thank Sue Bouffier for all she has
done for our parish family.
As you'll remember, several years ago we undertook a major Capital Campaign to make improvements in our
parish. Most recently, those funds have been used to give the Church a much-needed paint job. This, along
with many other improvements, would not have been possible without your kindness and generosity. I know,
as I come close to fulfilling my own three year pledge to the Capital Campaign, that most of the collection of
funds is winding down. So I ask that those who have finished their pledges to the Capital Campaign consider
trying to gently raise their weekly donations to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.
As you can see, our weekly collections usually run between 13,000 and 14,000 dollars. That's a great blessing
but difficult to run a parish of this size unless we can increase that amount by a few thousand dollars.
Recently, our counters were shocked when our collections rose by 8000 dollars one weekend! I wish I could
say that was because of generalized increased offertory collections. But the truth is it came from one man who
wanted to express his personal gratitude to God and our community for blessings he had received.
Let's all try (myself included) to see if we can all give a little more in the weekly collection. And if you're do-
ing the best you can, thank you. But if you can do slightly more, that would be a special grace and blessing to
the parish we love.
Thanks for your consideration.
In the love of Christ,
Msgr. Jim Lisante

Dear Friends,
I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all your love, prayers, encouragement and countless notes and cards.
Though it has been a challenging time for me, I believe I have been fortunate and have much to be grateful for.
Through successful surgery and chemotherapy treatments, I am now in remission and taking part in a focused clinical trial over the course of two years, of which its purpose is to hopefully prevent reoccurrence.
I am taking care of myself, feeling good, getting my energy back, contemplating the future and following Doctor’s orders.
Please know that your continuous prayers and kindnesses have meant so much to me, and no doubt has carried me to this point.
I think of all of you often, and will see you around the Parish. With Love and Gratitude, Corinne Lok

Altar Serving is responding to God’s call to serve at his table by assisting the Priest at Mass. It is a special privilege that allows you to be close to the altar, to carry the cross, to carry the light of Christ, to wear the robe of baptism, to hold the book of our Catholic prayers, and assist in any other way that is needed.
Altar Serving instills the value of regular church attendance and worshipping together with your family as part of the parish community. It builds faith and character, and it promotes responsibility, commitment, leadership, and teamwork.

many children undergoing cancer care.

needles, and is especially in need of acrylic yarns in support of
this effort. If you are interested in joining our group please con-

“Paper Goods”
On occasion, the folks who come to us for food assistance will ask if we can provide help with paper products such as toilet paper or paper towels. Food donations, as you know, remain our first priority! However, it would be a helpful addition to the folks we serve if we could offer some assistance with paper goods. All donations are greatly appreciated! Thank you for all you to help those in need.

“Ministry of Consolation”
Our parish is richly blessed to have gathered a won-derful group of volunteers who make up Our Lady of Lourdes “Ministry of Consolation” team. The most valuable gifts we can give are those that come from the heart. The precious gifts of our time, love and compassion are especially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one. Created to provide warmth, caring and personal at-tention to assist families in preparation for the fu-neral mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and being a part of this ministry’s call to love and care for one another. Thank you so much to all our volunteers for embrac-ing this beautiful ministry. Please call Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260 if you would like to vol-unteer. Thank you for your consideration.

WE NEED YOUR HELP As Thanksgiving approaches, we ask all to be as generous as possible in contributing to our food pantry. We will be making Thanksgiving Food Baskets for many needy families in our parish. We will be assembling baskets in the next coming weeks. Last year through your generosity, we were able to provide Thanksgiving baskets to more than 260 families from our parish and the imme-diate surrounding area. We are anticipating a greater demand this Thanksgiving, as the past year has seen a marked increase in families looking to us for assistance.
Below is a shopping list of items we will be using to make up the baskets. We will begin accepting donations now through November 13th. May we ask you to inspect the expiration dates on in-tended donations? Please bring the items to the Food Pantry no later than Monday, Nov. 12th, since we will be distributing Thanksgiving Baskets the week of Nov. 12th. Parish Outreach hours are: Tuesday / Thursday, 10:00am to 2:00pm, Wednesday, 10:00am to 11:30am.
Please feel free to donate any or all of the items on the list to complete a basket. Please do not bring any perishable items including turkeys or hams at this early date, because we do not have the facilities to store them. Kindly consider a Gift Card in lieu of a turkey. However if you choose to donate a frozen turkey or ham, please bring them to the Outreach office only on the days of November 13th, (Tues), November 14th, (Wed) and November 15th (Thurs), when we will be distributing the Thanksgiving food baskets. Thank you for your continued kindness and generosity to our neighbors in need.
*Food store gift cards would be much appreciated as they provide for perishables items
This would be an excellent opportunity for Girl Scout Troops, Boy Scout Troops and Confirmation Candidates as a Christian Service Project to participate in this

until 3:30pm. Two locations: Route 110 and Route 25 in Huntington or LIE Exit 70S,
County Rd. 111, Manorville. We are two of over 1800 sites throughout the US and Can-
ada on this day. All are welcome. Signs are provided along the route – no graphic signs permitted. We stand (this is not a
march) united along these busy roads in a peaceful, prayerful witness to the sanctity of life. Bring your family, friends,
coworkers, and neighbors and join us for the largest annual pro-life event on Long Island. Your presence sends a positive
message. Rain or shine. Sponsored by the Long Island Coalition for Life. For more information call 631-243-1435

ROSARY AND ADORATION FOR LIFE: Please consider spending time before the Blessed Sacrament to pray the Ro-
sary for the conversion of hearts and minds so that all might have reverence and respect for the God-given gift of life, from
the moment of conception until natural death. Please pray for an end to violence in all its forms.
SPIRITUAL ADOPTION: Make a personal commitment to pray daily for one unborn child who is in danger of being
aborted. You are asked to ‘spiritually adopt’ one unknown baby and pray that this child be carried to term and experience
the fullness of life as God intended. Daily prayer: "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the
life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” (Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen)
HOPE AND HEALING AFTER ABORTION: The Sisters of Life host monthly Days of Prayer & Healing, Gatherings,
and Hope & Healing Weekend Retreats. They include witnesses of mercy, Scripture sharing, personal prayer, opportunity
for Sacramental Confession, and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Call 866-575-0075 or email: hopeandheal-
VISIBILITY MATTERS: Weekly prayerful presence at Planned Parenthood, Massapequa - Saturdays 10:30am-12pm,

FDA CONTRACT UPDATE: Steven Ertelt at LifeNews.com reported on September 25th that the administration has can-
celed the FDA’s contract with Advanced Bioscience Resources, a company that buys and sells aborted baby parts from
Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses. The Health and Human Services department announced on September
24th that it canceled the contract with the company because it didn’t include “appropriate protections” for fetal tissue pro-
curement. In a statement the agency said it has “initiated a comprehensive review of all research involving fetal tissue to
ensure consistency with statutes and regulations governing such research.” Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan
B. Anthony List said, “Canceling a single contract and conducting a review is a small step forward, but overall is com-
pletely inadequate.” Ertelt wrote, “More protections are needed to ensure the FDA and HHS do not sign other agreements
to purchase aborted baby parts in the future. The HHS appears to be moving in that direction. It is conducting an audit of
all acquisitions involving human fetal tissue to “ensure conformity with procurement and human fetal tissue laws and
regulations.” The agency will also continue reviewing alternatives to human fetal tissue in HHS funded research and “will
ensure that efforts to develop such alternatives are funded and accelerated.””
ABORTION INDUSTRY’S NEXT FRONTIER: Chuck Donovan, President of the Charlotte Lozier Institute warns, “As
traditional abortion facilities around the country shutter their doors, advocates have sought to move abortion into homes,
dormitories, and other more ‘convenient’ spaces, through self-abortion using powerful drugs such as Mifeprex. Chemical
abortions are on the rise and now constitute 30-40% of all abortions in the US.”
