Today is ‘catch up Sunday’, as we are catching up on some of the postponed celebrations due to COVID-19. At the 9:30 and 11:30am Sunday Masses we will celebrate First Communion. We will be practicing social distancing, but even with half our pews being closed there will still be room for everyone. Our First Communion families have assigned seating, which will be clearly marked. At the Sunday evening Mass, we will honor those who graduated from our school at the end of May. They have begun their journey at high school, and we surround them with our love and prayers. We hope and pray they will continue to remain faithful to Christ in the community of the Church. We need their enthusiasm, drive and commitment as the Church of TODAY and Hope of TOMORROW. They will never forget the unique year they graduated from our school or received this beautiful sacrament of Christ’s love.
On August 5th, Pope Francis resumed his weekly audiences in Rome
with the announcement of a new catechesis series. The series focuses on healing the world from the physical and social ills related to the coronavirus pandemic. The Holy Father has expressed concerns about the economy, the environment, illness, death and sin, and he is encouraging Catholics around the world to respond with faith and hope to the challenges of the global pandemic. Here are some notable quotes:
• “Within the Christian tradition, faith, hope and charity are much more than feelings or attitudes. They are virtues infused in us through the grace of the Holy Spirit, gifts that heal us and that make us healers, gifts that open us to new horizons, even while we are navigating the difficult waters of our time.
• Commendable is the effort of so many people who have been offering evidence of human and Christian love for neighbor, dedicating themselves to the sick even at the risk of their own health. They are heroes.
• The harmony created by God asks that we look at others, the needs of others, the problems of others, in communion. We want to recognize the human dignity in every person, whatever his or her race, language or condition might be. Harmony leads you to recognize human dignity, that harmony created by God, with humanity at the center.
• In the face of the pandemic and its social consequences, many risk losing hope. In this time of uncertainty and anguish, I invite everyone to welcome the gift of hope that comes from Christ. It is he who helps us navigate the tumultuous waters of sickness, death and injustice, which do not have the last word over our final destination.
• The preferential option for the poor is at the center of the Gospel. Faith, hope and love push us towards this preference for those most in need. Jesus made himself poor to enrich us. He made himself one of us and for this reason this option for the poor is at the center of Jesus’ proclamation.”

Peter’s Pence Collection October 3-4
Next week, we will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection, which unites us and Catholics around the world more closely with the Holy Father in two ways: it supports the structures of the Holy See through which the Pope governs the Church as well as his charitable efforts to assist victims of war, oppression, natural disasters, and others most in need. Please be generous. For more information, visit http://www.peterspence.va/en.html

Dear Father Gary,
When the Church cancelled all Masses, I did not know what to do? I found your live stream and now I watch Mass every morning. I need to hear the Word of Good, and you say it so good. I have been watching your stream since March, please do not take it off. I started back to my parish a month ago so I can Receive God at Holy Communion. I love my parish in Seffner, but again, I still watch you Monday through Friday. Please accept this small gift to give to a family out of work with small children. Perhaps it will help them provide food. Please pray for me and my wife. May God bless all of us.

WE ARE CHANGING LIVES THROUGH CHRIST
Diocese of St. Petersburg Office of the Bishop
September 18, 2020
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The images of natural disasters such as fires, floods and hurricanes always move our hearts with
compassion, and this year is no different. As a Church, we seek to respond with the love of Christ, who
heals the brokenhearted. That is why I invite you to participate in a special collection to benefit the
Diocese of St. Petersburg Disaster Relief Fund, which supports victims of natural disasters during their
time of tremendous need. The donations can be made through your parish or online at
www.dosp.org/disaster- relief-fund.
This collection will benefit our brothers and sisters in Christ who are impacted by natural disasters,
including Hurricane Sally, which has devastated parts of Florida’s Gulf Coast, including areas of my
former Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.
By joining together, the people of our Diocese can make a difference in the hardest hit areas around the
world. Please be assured that 100% of all donations will be directed to people affected by natural
disasters as needed.
In the past year, contributions to our Disaster Relief Fund have been used to provide the following
assistance:
• $50,000 for Hurricane Laura Relief in the Diocese of Lake Charles, Louisiana
• $50,000 for Hurricane Laura Relief in the Diocese of Beaumont, Texas
• $100,000 for COVID-19 Relief in the Diocese of St. Petersburg
• $250,000 for Hurricane Dorian Relief in the Archdiocese of Nassau, Bahamas
As always, I thank you for your generosity and prayers as we care for those in need by following the ex-ample of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gregory Parkes Bishop of St. Petersburg
