Rachel’s Vineyard Rachel’s Vineyard can help you find your inner voice. It can help you experience God’s love and compassion on a profound level. It creates a place where men and women can share, often for the first time, their deepest feelings about abortion. You are allowed to dismantle troubling secrets in an environment of emotional and spiritual safety. Endorsement of Rachel’s Vineyard by Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR, psychologist and spiritual writer: “I cannot think of another work of this kind so well done. A most difficult and painful human problem is engaged with faith, psychological insight and trust.” If God is calling you to hope and healing OR to minister to those in need of hope and healing here in our local community, please contact Lisa Petersen (509-421-7847 or [email protected])for more infor-mation. Your call will be kept com-pletely confidential. Quotes -"Whether by pill or invasive surgery, abortion is never good for women." Janet Parshall, Chief Spokeswoman, Family Research Council -"Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them from the hand of the wicked." Psalm 82:3-4 -"The old law permitted abortion to save one life when two would otherwise die. The new law permits abortion to take one life when two would otherwise live." Herbert Ratner, M.D. -"Isn't it interesting that all of those people who support the choice of abortion have already been born?" Pres. Ronald Reagan By Pro-Life Articles Author www.pro-lifearticles.org

In today’s Gospel Reading from St. Matthew, a lawyer among the Pharisees again tries to entrap Jesus by asking Him the question, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest.” Jesus’ response appears mul-tiple times in Holy Scripture, as He says, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” The Lord then adds another that He cites as almost equally important, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Much has been written and conjectured about both of these, and often the focus is on who our neigh-bor is. However, there is another element of the second Great Commandment that is worthy of note, and that is loving the neighbor “as yourself.” Too often people conclude that this means that you have to love yourself first. Most of us grasp what it means to the love the Lord with all we are, although it is nearly unattainable to accomplish. How-ever, that second Great Commandment does not mean that it is necessary for us to love ourselves before we can love any-one else. It means, quite simply, that most of us are concerned with our own interests and our own personal situations. Jesus is telling us that just as we often think of ourselves, we need to take care and have concern for the interests of others as well. In the familiar Prayer of St. Francis known to many Catholics, we sum up what this kind of love to which we are called really is, when we pray, “Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved, as to love.” From http://www.catholicsteward.com/blog) Adoption: The Loving and Caring Option In the U.S., there are approximately two million couples wait-ing to adopt . Clearly, this is absolutely tragic. Many good, loving families are waiting throughout our nation for a baby whom they want to cherish, value, and raise for the rest of that baby’s life. In-stead of babies going to these families, they go into a trash heap or down a garbage disposal, victims of abortion. Adoption – especially the adoption of a newborn baby – al-most always involves a loving, excited couple who have dreamed for years of holding and caring for their own special treasure. Do mothers considering abortion realize that families actually go on waiting lists to adopt newborn babies? Do they realize that some couples wait years to adopt the baby they’ve desperately waited to hold in their arms? Do mothers realize how many experienced par-ents with wisdom, resources, and plenty of love are reaching out to adopt another child –- no matter his or her race, gender, or disa-bility? We need to let mothers know that they can handpick their ba-bies’ adoptive families. They can choose an open adoption, where they see their babies at certain times throughout the year. They can choose a partially open adoption, where they receive photos and updates about their children’s lives. Or they can choose a closed adoption and give their babies com-pletely over to their adoptive families. We must let expectant mothers know that adoption is the loving, caring option.
