THE OUR LADY OF LORETTO CHRISTMAS OUTREACH 2019 IS UNDERWAY!

During Advent, our Church family shares many traditions that help us to welcome Jesus into our hearts at Christmas. One of these traditions is the Christmas Outreach. Again this year we have committed to help families in need celebrate the birth of Christ as we all do, with good food, gifts, and the comfort of knowing there are people that care about us. It’s easy to be part of this compassionate outreach. Our Giving Trees are up in all the entrances to the Church. Please take an envelope from one of the Giving trees and return it to the secure mail slot at the Rectory, along with your gift of store gift cards, cash or check payable to Our Lady of Loretto Christmas Outreach. Please indicate the amount of your donation clearly on the outside of the gift card.

Our deadline for donations is Monday December 9, 2019

For your convenience, volunteers will be at the church entrances after each mass this weekend to accept your donations. Thank you for helping us to share the true spirit of Christmas with those in need.

Here is an article from Dear Abby which I thought was good. I hope you do as well.

How’s your health? Not so good? Well, thank God you’ve lived this long. A lot of people haven’t. You’re hurting? Thousands— maybe millions are hurting more. (Have you ever visited a veteran’s hospital? Or a rehabilitation clinic for handicapped children?) If you awakened this morning and were able to hear the birds sing, use your vocal chords to utter human sounds, walk to the breakfast table on two good legs, and read the newspaper with two good eyes, praise the Lord! A lot of people couldn’t

How’s your pocketbook? Thin? Well, most of the living world is a lot poorer. No pensions. No welfare. No food stamps. No Social Security. In fact, one third of the people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight.

Are you lonely? The way to have a friend is to be one. If nobody calls you, call them. Go out of your way to do something nice for somebody. It’s a sure cure for the blues.

Are you concerned about your country’s future. Hooray! Our system has been saved by such concern. Concern for honesty in government, concern for peace, and concern for fair play under the law. Our country may not be a rose garden, but it is also not a patch of weeds. Freedom rings! Look and listen. You can still worship at the church of your choice, cast a secret ballot, and even criticize your government without fearing a knock on the head or a knock on the door at midnight. And if you want to live under a different sys-tem, you are free to go. There are no walls or fences, nothing to keep you here.

As a final thought, here is my Thanksgiving Prayer:

Heavenly Father: We thank you for food and remember the hungry. We thank you for friends and re-member the friendless. We thank you for freedom and remember the enslaved. May these remembrances stir us to service. That your gifts to us may be used for others. Amen

RCIA—NEWS RCIA WILL NOT BE MEETING

THANKSGIVING WEEK

THIS WEEK IN CONFIRMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY

There are no Monday/Thursday classes this week! Classes will resume the week of Decem-ber 2nd at our regularly scheduled times.

The next meeting of the OLL Book Club will take place on Thursday December 5 at 10am in the Con-vent Chapel where we will meet to discuss William J. Bennett's book The True St. Nicholas: Why He Mat-ters to Christmas. Discussion questions to consider are as follows:

1. How did Saint Nicholas come to be an every-saint for all people and all causes?

2. Explain the special reverence the Russian peo-ple have for Saint Nicholas and how this came to be.

3. How does St. Nicholas come to be viewed as the patron saint of children?

4. What was Martin Luther’s effect on the devotion to Saint Nicholas?

5. St. Nicholas evolved into different figures region-ally (ie Perre Noel in France or La Befana in Italy, etc.) Did you grow up with a similar cultural tradi-tion?

6. Who are John Pintard (aka Diedrich Knicker-bocker), Clement Clark Moore, & Thomas Nast and how did they contribute to the American per-ception of Saint Nick? How does Santa Claus come to claim the leading role in America’s com-mercial Christmas pageant?

7. What’s the legacy of St. Nicholas and what does he offer us today?

A NOTE FROM PROJECT DRESSER: Thank you to all of you who have so generously participated in this initiative! Our first gift has been delivered - what a joy it was to pass on your generosity to our mother expecting her first baby! Our second baby, a girl, is due very soon. Please watch the dresser for a sign-up sheet which will list any outstanding items still needed to round out this gift. Your donations are so greatly appreciated! We have discovered that the *necessities* (q-tips, nail clippers, baby wash, wash cloths) are not coming in as quickly as the items that are a little more fun to shop for! We are also on the hunt for our next dresser, as our baby girl will be receiving the one currently in the church. Give us a call if you have any leads!

PARISH LIFE SURVEY NEXT WEEKEND Next weekend, our parish will conduct a survey to measure the effectiveness of our programs and to assess the greatest needs of our parish community. This is an opportunity for all of those who come to this parish to make their needs and opinions known. The results will help us better serve all those who at-tend Mass here. The survey is being conducted by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, a Catholic research center. The survey will be distributed and collected in-pew during all Masses next weekend. If you are registered parish-ioner, you will receive the survey in the mail or you may take the survey online via the parish website beginning November 30. Our parish will receive a report summarizing our results within 12 weeks of the survey, and the findings will be used as we plan for the next five years. Thank you for your cooperation

¿No tan bien? Bueno, gracias a Dios que has vivido tanto tiempo. Mucha gente no pudo. ¿Cómo está tu bolsillo? ¿Delgado?
