Report Card Interviews
All public and Catholic Schools will only have one
formal parent-teacher interview scheduled for
this school year to take place on the evening of No-
vember 14th and the morning of November
15th. The other remaining four PD days in-
clude: December 20, 2013 (unpaid day), January
24, 2014 (Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting
Day for teachers), March 7, 2014 (unpaid day) and
June 6, 2014 (Assessment, Evaluation and Report-
ing Day for teachers). This was communicated to
schools when the school year calendar was final-
ized in May.
Despite having only one formal parent-teacher in-
terview, parents are encouraged to contact the
school at any time to address the needs of their
child(ren).
Growing Success states on page 53 the follow-
ing: ―Although there are three formal reporting
periods, communication with parents and students
about student achievement should be continuous
throughout the year, by means such as parent-
teacher or parent-student-teacher conferences, port-
folios of student work, student-led conferences,
interviews, phone calls, checklists, and informal
reports. Communication about student achieve-
ment should be designed to provide detailed infor-
mation that will encourage students to set goals for
learning, help teachers to establish plans for teach-
ing, and assist parents in supporting learning at
home.‖

Introducing the Anchor of Hope
TCDSB is pleased to introduce a new project
specifically designed to celebrate our Year of
Hope, the second year of the Board’s Pastoral
Plan. Last year we saw the completion of the
two-year journey of our Witness to Faith
Cross. What an incredible journey it was for all
of us—what a beautiful testament to our shared
Faith. This year, TCDSB invites all schools to
participate in the ―Anchor of Hope‖, a tangible
way for us to share ideas about what hope
looks like in our local schools and offices.
The physical anchor will be designed and built
by students from our Catholic schools, and will
be given a place of honour in the atrium at the
Catholic Education Centre. The anchor will
showcase the many ideas, messages and visual
representations of hope throughout our school
system. The Board looks forward to seeing the
local interpretations of what hope looks like,
and how many of these ideas will come to frui-
tion next year as our Year of Hope transitions
into our Year of Charity, which will invite us
to put our Faith and Hope into action.
