Our Lady of Fatima School Newsletter Our Vision

Our Lady of Fatima Palmyra is a Catholic School that aspires to provide a respectful, secure and caring learning environment where our community is committed to following the teachings of Jesus.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school and the new academic year, 2018 promises to be

another busy and exciting year where we continue to refine what we do as we

cater for the needs of all the children within our community. Our overarching

goal continues to centre around providing an environment and experiences that

support the children to achieve to a level that reflects their potential.

Today, the first day of the school year for the children coincides with the feast of

Saint John Bosco, which is quite appropriate, given that he was renowned for

educating young people and his service to educating others was the main reason

for him becoming a saint. I referred to John Bosco with the children at our whole

school gathering just before recess today when we took the opportunity to

introduce the new students to everyone and recap on the school holidays.

Welcome to New Families

A very special welcome to all the new students and their families into our Fatima

community. Some of the new students mentioned below are younger siblings of

existing

students. Our new students include:

We will be sending home a hard copy of the “Family Details Form” very soon

and ask that that families make any necessary changes to the form and return to

school by Friday 9th February so that we can update your family details on our

system to ensure they are correct.

Family Name Cards

If any families would like a “Family Name Card” for the pick up process at Drive

Through in the carpark, please let Tracy know and we can arrange that as soon as

From the Principal—(Continued) Before and After School Supervision

After school, if children are not greeted by parents outside their classroom at the end of the day, we will be asking the

children to go down under the library, to the Drive Through area where teacher supervision will be. Towards the end

of last year, we had a growing number of children hovering on the grassed area and playground equipment at the front

of the school waiting for their parents. Unfortunately, there is no supervision for the children there after school and we

would be compromising their safety to allow this to happen. So parents, if you do not greet your child outside the

classroom at the end of the school day, we ask you to pick them up from under the library, the Drive Through area,

(unless your child is riding home) where teacher supervision will be. Staff will be out on duty under the library until

3:20pm. Thank you for your assistance to ensure the safety of the children in our community.

New Programmes at OLOF

As we continue to refine and further develop the learning opportunities for the children at our school, we will be

introducing some new programmes from the start of 2018. These programmes will be outlined at the Parent

Information Evening which will take place on Tuesday 13th February. Please put this date in your calendar which is a

really important date for parents in our community as we launch into a new school year.

Parent Information Evening

The Parent Information Evening on Tuesday 13th February will provide an opportunity for parents to develop a deeper

understanding of the classroom programmes being offered by the teachers and also some information from a whole

school perspective as we launch into the 2018 school year. We have configured the evening into 3 sessions as we

attempt to accommodate as many families as possible with the configuration of the session. Some families may need

to split themselves 2 ways, to attend both sessions (particularly parents who have children in Years 1 and 4), but we

did try to accommodate as many as possible.

The meeting times are:

6pm – 6:45pm Classroom Meetings for PP, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6 (in the respective classrooms)

6:45pm – 7:30pm Whole School gather ing (in the Hall)

7:30pm – 8:15pm Classroom Meetings for Year 1, Year 2 and Year 4 (in the respective classrooms)

We hope to see you there.

P&F: First Meeting

I have just confirmed our first meeting date for 2018, Wednesday 21st February at 7:30pm in the staffroom. Please put

that date in your diary, and we hope to see you there.

Best wishes for the coming fortnight.

THANK YOU

“ St Vincent de Paul would like to thank the children of our school and their parents and

families for their support of the Palmyra/East Fremantle conference of Vinnies with the

Christmas Hampers this Christmas. In all 25 substantial hampers were made up and

distributed to the needy in Palmyra and East Fremantle. A great deal of the contents of the

hampers came from your generous donations. The joy on the faces of the recipients when we

delivered them was a pleasure to see. Doing things like this makes helping the community

through organisations such as Vinnies such a pleasure and privilege.

Thank you for helping us to help others!”
