The participant whose name appears below has registered to enter

our Walk-a-thon sponsored by Our Lady of Angels' Youth

Group's The purpose for this walk-a-thon is to fund the efforts

of our youth to go Steubenville Retreat NYC II and Camp

Veritas this summer of 2016. The participants' goal is to walk

three times around the Jerome Park Reservoir or approximately 7

miles. For each mile the participant complete, you, the sponsor

agrees to contribute a set amount of dollars per mile ($1, $2, $3,

$4, $5, etc') OR you may contribute a fixed amount, which is a

donation of any size regardless of the distance walked. Each par-

ticipant is asked to find a minimum of two sponsors, Sponsorship

papers are due on JUNE 10

TENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor Muchas gracias a todos aquellos que prepararon hermosos altares

para nuestra procesión de Corpus Christi. El frente de la Iglesia

fue decorado tan bien que cualquiera que por casualidad pasara,

tomaba conciencia de nuestro amor por la Eucaristía. Gracias

también a todos los que participaron y asistieron a nuestra proce-

sión al aire libre. Fue simplemente una gran experiencia el llevar

a Nuestro Señor con nosotros por nuestras calles y pedir Su ben-

dición sobre nuestros vecinos y sobre nosotros.

¿Les importa si cambio un poco? Diferentes grupos ahora se reú-

nen para discutir la formación de un plan estratégico para nuestra

parroquia. Los miembros del Consejo Parroquial de Planificación

han sido los facilita ¿Le gustaría unirse a uno de estos grupos?

¿Compartir sus talentos y su aporte con el Consejo Parroquial de

Planificación y el trabajo importante por delante? Si es así nos

dan una llamada a la Rectoría. Uno de los placeres de este proce-

so de planificación es de hecho, el número de personas en nuestra

parroquia que han dado un paso adelante y han decidido tomar un

papel de servicio a la comunidad de su parroquia.

Hasta la fecha tenemos cerca de 120 promesas para la Apelación

del Cardenal de nuestros feligreses que asciende a alrededor de $

23,000. Como he estado anunciando cada semana, estaba esperan-

do por lo menos 200 o más feligreses para prometer un regalo a

la Apelación. Yo tengo prometida $1,0000 y me tomará un tiem-

po para pagar ese compromiso. Estoy a casi medio camino para

pagarlo. Comparto esto con ustedes porque quiero dejarles saber

lo importante que es para nuestra meta de $ 38,000. Por favor, por

favor, si no le han dado a la Campaña, hagan un compromiso hoy

y el tiempo que usted necesita para pagarlo.

El pasado Miércoles organizamos un almuerzo para nuestros

clérigos vecinos de diferentes denominaciones, en la Rectoría.

Hay un espíritu renovado entre nosotros por colaborar más en

atender las necesidades de nuestro pueblo, especialmente los po-

bres y los que están luchando con cuestiones como la vivienda,

desempleo y cualquier otro tipo de injusticia. La Coalición de la

Comunidad y el Clero dl North West Bronx nos han ayudado a

enfocarnos y a reorientarnos nosotros mismos, el uno al otro. Yo

encuentro estas reuniones muy útiles y fascinantes. Compartimos

con otros nuestras luchas comunes y nuestras fortalezas comunes.

Espero compartir con ustedes algunos de nuestros planes de mejor

servicio a nuestro pueblo.

Ahora tengo una lista de las Hermanas que viven en Kittay House

en la partes del Hogar Judío y Hospital. Usted podrá recordar que

un tiempo atrás mencioné que tal vez podríamos asociarnos con

las Hermanas jubiladas de manera informal tal como, parar para

visitarlas, escribirles una nota en días especiales, orar específica-

mente por una Hermana, darles una llamada por teléfono, etc.

Estas Hermanas han gastado sus vidas en servicio del pueblo de

Dios corriendo hospitales, enseñando, sirviendo a los pobres, cui-

dando de los bebes abandonados, sirviendo a las parroquias,

etc.Lo que sea que hayan hecho lo han hecho bien, porque lo

hicieron para Dios. Conectándonos sería la mejor manera de vin-

cular a los feligreses con una Hermana en específico. Mientras

tanto, si desea me lo deja saber de inmediato que usted está inte-

resado y le proporcionaré información y nombre de una Hermana.

From the Pastor’s Desk Many thanks to all those who prepared the beautiful altars for

our Corpus Christi Procession. The front of the church was also decorated so nicely that anyone who happened to pass by

had to become aware of our love for the Eucharist. Thanks too

to all who participated and assisted in our outdoor procession. It was simply a great experience to carry our Lord with us in

our streets and ask for his blessing upon our neighbors and us.

Do you mind if I ramble a bit? Different groups are now meeting to discuss the formation of a strategic plan for our

parish. The members of the Parish Planning Council have

been the facilitators who have been helping our groups move in the right direction. Would you like to join one of the

groups? Would you share your talents and your input with the

Parish Planning Council and the major work ahead of us? If

so, give us a ring at the rectory. One of the joys of this plan-

ning process is indeed to see the number of people in our par-ish who have stepped forward and have decided to take on a

role of service to their parish community.

To date we have about 120 pledges for the Cardinal’s Appeal

from our parishioners amounting to around $23,000. As I have been announcing each week, I was hoping for at least 200

or more parishioners to pledge a gift to the Appeal. I have pledged $1,000 and it will take me awhile to pay that pledge. I

am almost half way there in paying it off. I share this with you

because I want to let you how important it is to make our goal of $38,000. Please, please, if you haven’t given to the cam-

paign, make a pledge today and take the time you need to pay it off.

We hosted a luncheon this past Wednesday for our clergy

neighbors from different denominations at the rectory. There

is a renewed spirit among us to collaborate more in serving the needs of our people, especially the poor and those who are

struggling with issues such as housing, unemployment and any other kind of injustice. The North West Bronx Clergy and

Community Coalition has helped us to refocus and reintroduce

ourselves to each other. I find these meetings very helpful and fascinating. We share with one another our common struggles

and our common strengths. I look forward to sharing with you

some of our plans to be of better service to our people.

I now have a list of the Sisters who are living in the Kittay

House and the parts of the Jewish Home and Hospital. You

might recall that awhile back I mentioned that perhaps we could partner with the retired Sisters in an informal way such

as, stop by for a visit, write a note on special days, pray spe-

cifically for a Sister, give a phone call, etc. These Sisters have spent their lives in service of God’s people running hospitals,

teaching, serving the poor, taking care of abandoned babies, serving in parishes, etc. You name it; they have done it, and

have done it well, because they did it for God’s people. I will

figure out the best way to link individual parishioners with a specific Sister. In the meantime, if you want to let me know

right away that you are interested, I will provide a Sister’s

name and information.
