With the revolution the internet has created in terms of individual owners being able to offer their residential property to the global travelers community, residential tourism is on the rise. Otium Residences is the brand that takes this trend a step further – it manages and operates luxury residences according to international hospitality management standards in order to offer guests unique experiences in a private and spacious setting with 24-7 service at hand.

Otium Otium, a Latin abstract term, has a variety of meanings, including leisure time in which a person can enjoy eating, playing, resting, contemplation and academic endeavors. It sometimes, but not always, relates to a time in a person's retirement after previous service to the public or private sector, opposing "active public life". Otium can be a temporary time of leisure, that is sporadic. It can have intellectual, virtuous or immoral implications. It originally had the idea of withdrawing from one's daily business (negotium) or affairs to engage in activities that were considered to be artistically valuable or enlightening (i.e. speaking, writing, philosophy). It had particular meaning to businessmen, diplomats, philosophers and poets.
Why it started… Founder Bernardo Retana always was fascinated by the phenomenon of Concierge Services, since he worked in Luxury Hospitality in New York City. Since the early 2000’s he had in his mind that one day he would like be active in this field. On a summer afternoon in 2012, having Arabic coffee at a Marbella mansion with a good friend of his from the Arabian Gulf, the conversation they had inspired him to create a company providing services to visitors to Marbella, looking for exclusivity, discretion and the level of service they are used to receiving back home, or during their travels. This resulted in the conception of Otium Lifestyle Management, the trusted host for the luxury traveler, arrranging the impossible, taking away any kind of preoccupation, in the most unobtrusive manner.
