Volunteer Process
• Forms for new volunteer’s can be found on our web-site under
Volunteer Information
• Ohio 4-H office policy is there is no such thing as a “parent helper” – 2
or more times a year is considered a volunteer and must complete
process
• End of 2013: OSU Policy 1.50: builds on already existing procedures
and strengthens our overall commitment to safety of youth • A key part of this is that all 4-H volunteers will need to have BCI fingerprints before
service begins and every 4 years after

Advisors: All volunteers will:
• Serve as mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect.
• Where to report? Local Law Enforcement & Children’s Services where abuse is occurring or has occurred
• Report: • Child's Name • Address/Phone • Parent/Guardian name(s) • Reason for reporting
• Inform Extension Educator • Required to make 2 phone calls & file 1 report
• Call local law enforcement or Children’s Services (855-O-H-CHILD) • Call OSU Police (614-292-2121) • File Child Abuse, Sexual Abuse & Neglect Incident Report

All volunteers will: • Sign the revised Standards of Behavior (included on back
of Advisor Enrollment Form). • Includes statement regarding status as mandated reporter:
• I will report any child abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect in accordance with university policy.
• Clarifies that volunteers may be dismissed for failure to adhere to Standards: • My volunteer status is subject to immediate suspension or
termination based on any act or omission that Extension determines to be contrary to any portion of these standards or otherwise in conflict with the goals of OSUE.

The Reality of Child Abuse In Ohio… •139,079 referrals for child abuse and neglect
• Investigated 71, 811 reports of abuse in 2010
• 33,947 children were found to be victims of abuse or neglect
•83 Ohio children died as a result of abuse or neglect

In 2014, we had 202 certified volunteers. Ohio says value of a volunteer per hour is $21.40. This would come out to $51,873.60!

county dues, project books and camp fees) ONLY! This will take place in fall 2015.

• What is new in 2015 • 4-H Club Poster Contest: Due July 29, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. OPTIONAL- we will
provide the banner for the club to decorate and promote their club. This will be
hanging in the Assembly Building during fair and awards will be given. Banner
must be made by youth with club name. BANNER MUST HANG VERTICALLY.
Please email or tell Brenda or Rebecca by March 12 if your club wants to
participate so we order enough banners.
