• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is one of the landmark legislations in the US. OSHA has been passed with the intention of ensuring safety at the workplace for Americans in all kinds of industries. OSHA was passed by the American Congress in late 1970. Since then, it has been made applicable to a number of industries and activities all across the US. It is also applicable to private organizations that hire people to do certain kinds of work.

• Successive American governments have taken OSHA so seriously that its non-implementation or improper implementation is seen very negatively, something that is worthy of being awarded high degrees of punishment. Organizations that do not implement the provisions of the OSHA correctly or fully are dealt with very severely. Proper implementation of the provisions of OSHA is thus something that organizations cannot take chances on.

Leaving it to the owner

• OSHA clearly states that the responsibility and duty of

providing a safe workplace in which the wellbeing of the employer is enforced lies with the employer. The only way of doing this is by implementing the whole set of relevant OSHA regulations according to the prescribed method of doing it, although OSHA takes up the supporting aspects such as offering training, assistance and education and implementing outreach programs. Through initiatives like its Alliance Program; OSHA offers an opportunity for employees and employers, along with health professionals and trade unions to collaborate with its on implementing safety regulations at the workplace.
