1. Is the location convenient for a University?2. Are there any bad Physical features
around the are?3.Are there any plate tectonics that could
cause problems?4. Would a hurricane leave any damage?5.Is it a safe place to build a University?6.If there were a hurricane would there be
any flooding?

Acquired• Harris County’s Flood Plains:• What are the three different categories of floods? Rank them in order from strongest to weakest.-1. 500 year flood or 0.2% chance flood -2. 100 year flood or 1% chance flood-3. 10 year flood or 10% chance flood
Which floodplain creates the worst situation?Coastal floodplain
Rank the floodplains in order from best to worst based on your analysis. Shallow Floodplain: Smallest effect Valley Floodplain: not a big deal of an effect Major River Floodplain: bad effect Coastal Floodplain: everybody gets affected
Type of floodplain
Student created explanation of floodplain
Locations of floodplains in Harris County
Explanation of Potential flooding
Valley Floodplain This is near a creek valley and it doesn’t affect many of the houses.
Northeast portion of Harris county.
Houses higher up and farther are more safe from the flood and houses lower down and closer to the creek are likely to get flooded
Major River Floodplain
There is only one in Houston, it’s big and deep.
Along the San Jacinto River.
Houses that aren’t high up will likely flood and can last for weeks.
Shallow Floodplain Because it is shallow and it probably wouldn’t affect that many houses.
Southeastern part of Harris County
Houses don’t get badly flooded and this type of flood usually only lasts for a few hours.
Coastal Floodplain Because it is located near the ocean.
Can happen anywhere
All houses can be affected by ground subsidence and lower houses are affected by a normal storm surge

Acquired• Hurricane Data:
1. What is storm surge? an abnormal rise in the level of the sea along a coast caused by the onshore winds of a hurricane
2. Why is storm surge such a huge problem in the Gulf of Mexico instead of places like the Atlantic Ocean? Because it isn’t causing any devastation or at least not as much as in the gulf of Mexico
3. Explain the three causes of storm surge. A. the wind causes the ocean water to pile up B. Low pressure at the center of a weather system also has a small secondary effect . C. and the combination of persistent wind and the low Pressure is what causes most of the flooding.
4. What makes storm surge so devastating? Because it Destroys everything in it’s way that can’t withstand it
Location Category of Hurricane that would require an evacuation
Storm surge height that would flood the campus

Acquired Fault data:
1.The images included on the map are examples of which kind of weathering? -Mechanical weathering
2. How far are Harris County’s faults moving per year? -not that far
3.How would faults and weathering impact your University? - Options 1, 4, would either be hard to get to or becompletely impossible to get to so they would probably be closed if flooded.- Option 2 and 3 wouldn’t be affected- Option 5 would most likely be hard to get to, but other than that there are no problems
What types of problems do you anticipate from the fault data? That in some particular locations it will cause damage and willTake a good amount of money to repair
Rank the locations in order from worst to best based on your analysis of fault dataOp3: has no faults nearbyOp2: has only one fault nearby0p5:If damaged low repair costOp1: It’s repair cost is less than op4Op4: is the one with most faults and highest repair cost

• Crime data:Explain how crime data will affect the recruitment of future students.Students would want to know if the University they’re attending is safeSo if the crime level of the locationIs low it is most likely for a student to Feel safe and want to attend, but if The crime level is high then they Won’t want to attend to an unsafe University.

-The lower the price the more land for the University, the more land the more space for students, and the more space for students, the more students that will attend OU

Conclusion• Of the data that you collected which data set do you feel is most important
to your decision-making process. Rank the six data sets in order from most influential to least influential.
1. Hurricane storm surge and potential damage: it’s what is most likely to affect the university2. Land prices: How much you should spend on buying the location is also important3. Floodplains: it only affects some areas so it’s not that bad4. Fault data and mechanical weathering: it can cause a lot of damage and money5. Crime data: student have to feel safe but from the analysis there is nothing to worry about6. Watersheds: it could affect but not as big as the rest
Other sources :

Explanation of how the source would be beneficial
Location that would likely benefit the most from your source
Location that would likely benefit the least from your source.
Reasonable distance to Shopping complexes/Hospitals etc
It would attract students and would reassure students in case of accident

Are there any other colleges around
So there is no competition between the colleges

Conclusion
• From all the work I’ve done and everything I’ve analyzed I think W. Tomball (Tomball, TX) 29608 Liberty Ln., Tomball, TX would be the best spot for the college
• The board of directors and investors could respond in different ways, they could like it or they could not. It all depends in what perspective they see it, but of course it all depends how they analyze it as well, land prices, fault data, and everything else. Personally I think they’d like it and feel it’s reliable enough to make decision.
