From our Principal Mrs Kerri Moore
Dear Parents and Students
This will be the last newsletter for the 2019 year and I would like to thank you
for your ongoing support throughout the year.
On Friday 6th December we held our Primary Awards and Year 6 Graduation
and I would like to congratulate all our primary school award winners and our
2020 Primary School Captains – Grace Sauer and Clancy Doyle and House
Captains – Ayana Timms, Amazyne Godfrey, Tori-Lee Walker and Student
Council Chair - Izabella Sinn. Congratulations also to our Year 6 students who move into high school
next year. I would also like to thank Ms Prichard who is leaving us at the end of this year for her super
organisation and hard work over the past five years. Sarah has been an amazing teacher and we wish
her well in her new school.
At this point, our 2020 classes in Primary will be –
Kindy/Prep/1/2 - with Mrs Hills
3/4 – with Mrs Howard
5/6 - with Ms Cavallaro.
Student Reports for 2019 and the stationery lists for 2020 will be emailed out to all parents with current
email addresses or posted during this week. Stationery lists can also be accessed through the school
website.
Staffing is tentatively finalised for 2019. I would like to say fare well and thanks to a number of staff who
are transferring out next year. James Smith is transferring to Longreach, Sarah Arney (Prichard) to
West Bundaberg, and Allison Drady, and Andre Le Roux finish their contracts. Margaret Sypher and
Denise Bayliss will return in Secondary next year as does Sarah Tibble who returns part time. New staff
include Braden Andersen (HPE/Science), Rick Olsson (English), Holly Winzar-Dunn (Relieving) and
Kate Nunn (Science / Maths).
Trish Gibson our Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) is retiring after 38 years of teaching. I
would like to acknowledge the contribution Trish has made to the education and well being of students
with learning difficulties and students with disabilities. Trish has been a passionate advocate for these
students and their families not just in our school but across our cluster for many years.
Another person who I would like to acknowledge as he heads towards retirement at the end of the year
is Ross Coates our Senior English teacher. We have appreciated Ross’ skill and expertise in the
Humanities subjects and have seen a marked improvement in student outcomes due to his experience.
Thank you to both Trish and Ross and on behalf of our school community I wish you both a wonderful
and well deserved retirement.
I am currently interviewing for a new Head of Department for Special Education Services (HOSES) and
hope to have this finalised before the end of the school year. We will organise for all our Students with
Disabilities and their families to meet with the new HOSES early in the new year.
Don’t forget school starts on Tuesday 28th January 2020 for all students. (Monday is a Public Holiday.)
The office will be open from Monday 20th January 2020. We will be running Staff Professional
Development on Student Free Days on Wednesday 22nd January to Friday 24th January and will be
unable to do enrolments during these three days. However, you can make bookings through the Office
for enrolments from Tuesday 28th January. The Office will be closed for staff professional development
on Thursday 23rd January. Merry Christmas to all our families and I look forward to seeing you in
2020. Kerri Moore

From our Deputy of Senior School Mr Josh Morris
Final piece
Well what a year we have had in 2019. I can honestly say this has been the hardest
year that I have had since being employed as a teacher. Not only for me but I saw
this in the other administration staff, teachers and students. I would like to
congratulate you all on getting through this year and I look forward to 2020.
Our school laptop program will continue next year in the secondary school.
Students should have handed laptops in to be updated over the holidays. We have
had to change the laptops that we have been purchasing to a new model for our incoming year seven
students. These laptops will be a different brand but also come with more power and a solid-state hard
drive which allows them to be better at travelling as well as that little bit faster. Unfortunately these
improvements come with an additional cost. They will be $250/year over a four-year cycle. These are
only available to our year 7 students in 2020. They also may be available for new students enrolling in
the school if numbers are available. Students who are already involved in laptop hire programs will
continue with their current laptop at the rate of $100/year.
Forms and money are to be returned to the school office ASAP at the start of the year so that students
can start using their laptops in the classroom.
I would like to congratulate all of our students who put in 100% effort this year. I am sure that your
results will show this in your final report cards which will be emailed out to parents this week. As I talk to
students around the school about what they are planning to do when they leave Year 10 or Year 12 a lot
of them say “I don’t know”. Your homework over the holidays is to talk about future options for when you
leave school. If you are a parent please have these conversations with your students so that they see
the value in coming to school and learning for the future. We are all learning everyday to become better
than we were yesterday and to prepare us for tomorrow.
Have a safe and happy holiday period and I look forward to seeing everyone back here next year on the
28th of January.
Mr Morris
From our Head of Senior School Mr Anthony Holt
This term we were able to achieve 100% QCE attainment and were able to
celebrate this success at the school formal. The students decided they wanted to
change from the traditional dancing from previous years. The students decided to
do a mash up of three different dances. They were all eager and enthusiastic
especially Aiden Annets who showed some real dancing talent. Everyone got up
there and gave it a go. It was an awe inspiring moment to see the students on their
formal night.
At the secondary awards night recently we were pleased to announce Karrie and
Adam as our new senior leaders for 2020. They will lead the student body next year in conjunction with
other team members. This team recently attended a leadership camp at Chaverim Outdoor and
Environment Centre. Here the students worked together to build positive relationships and develop
leadership skills. The students were taught problem solving tasks by working as a team on different
obstacles. Spending this time with the students allowed Miss Munce, Mr Morris and myself to bond with
them and work on the visions and values of our school. It was great to see all members of the team
working together to overcome problems and take control in challenging situations. Although there were
boundaries that some had to overcome we all left with a sense of accomplishment. This camp will be our
annual event for all year 12 leaders at Rosedale State School.
![Page 4: orrow - rosedaless.eq.edu.au · At this point, our 2020 classes in Primary will be – Kindy/Prep/1/2 - with Mrs Hills 3/4 – with Mrs Howard 5/6 - with Ms Cavallaro. Student Reports](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052005/60184583de1b5e6a8d18c224/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Finally I would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday and look forward to 2020.
Anthony Holt
From our Deputy Principal Primary School Mr Peter Jordan
As Term 4 quickly draws to a close I would like to extend a huge thank you to our parents and community members from all of the staff here, especially from the Primary teachers, for the support you have provided throughout the busy year to ensure that our students are receiving the best education possible. Together we have been able to ensure that every student is succeeding in our school. In Week 7 our Primary students had a visit from everyone’s favourite giraffe, Healthy Harold. Harold and the Life Education team came to the school to provide fun and engaging opportunities for our students to learn about a range of topics including building healthy friendships and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We would once again like to thank the Life Education team for all of the great work that they do and for coming to share this important information with our students. On Friday last week we hosted the annual Primary Awards Ceremony in which we celebrated student achievement throughout the year. It was fantastic to have such a great turnout of parents and families to show support for our students. Congratulations to all of the students who received an award on the day, your continued efforts while you strive for success have really paid off. We would also like to extend another thank you to all of the parents and community members in our school who have directly volunteered their time to support educational programs here at the school. Your support has made a difference to the learning outcomes of our Primary students. Over the last two weeks the P/1/2 classroom has been a hive of activity as we have invited two new groups of students in to our school. It was great to meet our Prep and Kindy students for 2020 on the three immersion mornings over the two weeks. These new students had a wonderful time getting a taste of what school life looks like and we are looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year. Thank you again for your continued support in ensuring our students are succeeding. We’d like to wish all of our staff, students, families and community members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope you all have a restful break and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2020 ready for another great year of learning. Peter Jordan

From our Head of Junior Secondary School Mr Warren Creighton
TRANSITION TO SECONDARY
Last Tuesday we ran our final transition day for year 6 students coming to
Rosedale next year. It was a great day with students having the opportunity to
mix with students from other schools. Activities throughout the day included: a
team challenge, Optiminds, Geography, trivia and a talk from our chappy. We
look forward to seeing all these students early next year as our year 7 cohort.
ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM week 10
With this week being the final week of the school year, students in years 7-9 will be doing an alternative
activities program. There are a variety of fun activities on offer and students had the opportunity to
select different ones this week.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. I look forward to seeing you all
again in the 2020 school year.

Message from Head of Special Education Services Trish Gibson
This is my very last newsletter item, with my retirement looming fast. Education is
always a team effort; so I take this chance to thank everyone here at Rosedale
School, past and present who have shared my journey. I truly believe being an
educator is a gift – an
opportunity to learn about
others and ourselves. I
have loved working with
students in the HIVE
(Highly Individualised
Valued Education),
assisting students to meet
their challenges and help to
realise their potentials.
![Page 6: orrow - rosedaless.eq.edu.au · At this point, our 2020 classes in Primary will be – Kindy/Prep/1/2 - with Mrs Hills 3/4 – with Mrs Howard 5/6 - with Ms Cavallaro. Student Reports](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052005/60184583de1b5e6a8d18c224/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
This term students in the Hive have visited the Littabella Alpaca Farm – you would have seen our pictures
on the face book page.
In the last week, we have been
making mosaicked stepping stones
for our garden areas. Thank you to
Sue Johnstone who volunteered her
skills and creativity to guide us
through the process.
Tiles are cut, positioned and glued.
Designs include the first letter of
students’ names.
After tiles have been glued into place
and left to dry, the grouting
completes the process.
The finished products look amazing.
I wish you a merry Christmas and a
safe, wonderful 2020.

MultiLit stands for making up for lost time in Literacy. It is a program adopted by Rosedale State School
to help struggling readers. It is run by Deb Little and Sue McFarlane who have been specifically trained
in this program. This year we ran 3 blocks of 10 weeks duration. All the children who were selected for
the program have done very well, improving their reading levels by one year level in most cases and
sometimes more! MultiLit will be continuing again next year, so if you receive a letter saying your child
has been selected for the MultiLit program please ask them how they are going and encourage them to
read every night at home.
MultiLit is made up of:- MiniLit (Year 1 in small groups of no more than 4), Reading Tutor Program
(Year 2 and above, one to one), Word Attach Skills Extension Program (Year 4 and above, one to one)
and MacqLit (Year 3 and above, in small groups of no more than 4). If you have any questions or
concerns about MultiLit please contact either Peter Jordan, Deb Little or Sue McFarlane.
Looking forward to another successful reading year next year from the MultiLit Team,
Deb & Sue.
Farewell from Miss Prichard/Mrs Arney
As most of you are now aware, I have accepted a position at a Bundaberg
school commencing in 2020. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past five and a
half years at Rosedale State School. It has been wonderful to get to know
and work with so many children and their families during this time.
Some real highlights of my time at Rosedale include:
- Reef Guardian FLEC days
- Aussie World excursion 2015
- Opti-Minds team challenges
- North Keppel camp 2019
-
It has been a privilege to be a part of the Rosedale School community and I would like to thank you all
for your support over the years.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season!
From our Library/Resource Room Ms Brenda Grills
Textbooks, Library books and other items loaned to your student/s during the year
are your student’s responsibility. If your student chooses to store items in classrooms
under their teachers’ guidance, these items still remain the student’s responsibility. If
items go missing from classrooms it is the student’s responsibility to look for them
and to check with their teachers. All missing items at the end of each year are
required to be paid for. New items will not be loaned out at the start of a new year
until all items from previous year are returned or paid for.

Vaccination is the best protection against measles
Measles is circulating in South East Queensland.
Measles is highly infectious and can have serious
complications such as pneumonia (lung infection) and
encephalitis (inflammation of the brain).
You need two doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella
(MMR) vaccine to be protected. Check your own and your
child’s vaccination history with your GP today.
Early symptoms include fever, runny nose, tiredness and sore red eyes. This is followed by a blotchy
red rash, which often starts on the face before becoming widespread.
If your school-age child is unwell, keep them at home, seek medical advice, and contact the school to
let them know.
For more information, visit Queensland Health or call 13HEALTH.
Rosedale P & C would like to thank all members for their help throught the year, and are looking
forward to your company again next year.
We would also like to extend an invitation to parents and community members to join our Parents and
Citizens Association in 2020. We are only a small group and would appreiciate any help/ time you can
give.
