Central heating was introduced in the 19th century and the mass production of cast iron radiators lowered the associated costs making it more accessible. The sturdiness, durability and relatively low cost of cast iron made it a popular metal in foundries for casting purposes. It was around the mid-19th Century that the forerunners of the radiators as we know them today were invented.

What is my personal style? What is my budget? When would I like this to be completed? Would I rather contact a professional interior designer for advice? Whatever you decide should be a blend of your personal style and support the function of the room you are decorating. Your style will be reflected in the colours, furnishings, flooring and accessories (which will include your radiators). It is useful to think about how these elements will blend together to create a space that you will be comfortable in.

The ornate styling on cast iron radiators can also have interesting histories such as the intricate Chelsea Traditional Cast Iron Radiator design that was originally commissioned in the 1900s for use in the Chelsea Barracks Officers Mess and can therefore be a topical conversation starter too. Cast iron radiators can also have a polished finish that can enhance the look of the elaborate designs and accentuate the natural beauty of the cast iron metal.
