Intern's Speak!Feautring Braelyn Chatterjea

Braelyn is a third year student from James MadisonUniversity, United States. She shared with us “This pastsummer, I interned for the communications department ofIndia Vision Foundation. As a third year college student fromthe United States, the entire experience left me feeling fulfilledin more ways than one and more knowledgeable of a foreignNGO’s work practices. Throughout the month of workingthere, I was given several responsibilities that aligned with myown interests. My primary jobs were working on therefurbishment of the foundation’s website, writing individual

success stories of prisoner rehabilitation, creating plans for strategic social media activity forthe future, designing and running a health insurance campaign, and the preparation andfacilitation of English lessons to the NGO’s children in the residential and community programsof CVF. Upon reflecting on the entire experience, I found each of my jobs to be equallyrewarding in their own unique way. Some tasks shed light on the truly positive effects that theNGO has on the prison community, while some tasks helped me in my own regard as itimproved some of the weaknesses I have. India Vision provided me with a comprehensive workplan ripe with challenges, thought-provoking tasks, knowledge of NGO work as an institution, and all-around better insight of what I’d like to do in the future. As far as the office andemployee interactions, I felt welcome every day upon arrival and each person was equallyapproachable. My time with India Vision has come to an end but the experiences I’ve had, people I’ve met, and knowledge I’ve gained will never leave me.”
