By the time you read this pastor’s page, the church will have already celebrated Pentecost – the

gift of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate given to us upon Jesus’ return to sit with our Father in heav-

en. Jesus wanted to make sure that the disciples as well as we, understood that He was not leav-

ing us alone. Jesus wanted us to know that the Holy Spirit would be with us to lead and guide us

as we travel through life on this earth.

Where do you see the Holy Spirit? Jesus said the Spirit would be with us in all that we do. At

times we find ourselves in unpleasant situations and we tend to ask God where are you and

what are you trying to teach me here? Well, I’m here to tell you that seeing or sensing the pres-

ence of the Holy Spirit was difficult when I was scrubbing my dog 4 times after she was sprayed

by a skunk. I also ask where the presence of the Holy Spirit was when I hit deer number 6 with

my car a few weeks ago. These are two minor examples of difficult or unpleasant situations.

Many of us have gone through more serious and even devastating situations where we ask

where are you God? Where are you Jesus? Where are you Holy Spirit? How do I see you in this

event?

Of course this is where our faith comes into play. Regardless of how unpleasant, draining or seri-

ous a situation is the Holy Spirit is with us whether we see it or not. Through our faith in the

presence of the Holy Spirit being with us we draw strength, strength in many cases that we did-

n’t even know that we had. In finding that strength we realize that Jesus wasn’t wasting His

breath when he said that he wasn’t leaving us alone.

Those of you who were in worship on Pentecost Sunday are probably thinking that Pastor Lynn

is repeating some of her sermon from that day in this writing. Well, you are right. I once had a

psychology professor who told the class that if we heard him repeat something, it was im-

portant and would probably be on a test. Well folks, this is one of the most important things for

you to know. The Holy Spirit is with us always. Not just in church, not just in our prayer time, not

just in Bible Study but always, everywhere and through all situations. The Holy Spirit is with us

and will give us wisdom and strength even when the chore is to make a stinky situation smell

better.

Let us pray: Holy Breath, Holy Spirit, you who moves so lightly on wave and wind, you who can

be as mighty as a hurricane, as strong as a tornado, as quiet as breath, draw near. Give us light.

Give us hope. Give us spirit. Let us be strong and tender simultaneously, even as you are. Let us

be fierce in defending the gospel and humble in our understanding of its completeness. Let us

join your disciples in awe and wonder and let us become the kind of people they were – real,

awed, full and capable, despite weakness, of great witness. When we lose our way, guide us.

When we are winded, invigorate us. When we go too far on too little, befriend us. Never let us

be far from our source in you. Amen

Calvary United Methodist Church will be recognizing everyone who has

been a member, for at least 50 years, on Sunday, June 10th. Below is a list

of names we have compiled using the 2014 list. We have removed inactive

and deceased members to the best of our knowledge. If you see any names

that need to be removed or if you know of someone who should be added

please let the church office know and we will try to verify their information.

Congratulations to the following grads:

Andrew Calo graduated from Fairmont University with a degree in Aviation Administration.

His immediate plans is flight instructor at Fairmont and he is seeking a pilot position with the Air

National Guard. Andrew is the son of Jake and Kim Calo.

Jacob P. Calo II graduated from WVU Parkersburg with a degree in BAT Computer Networking &

Security. His immediate plans are with The Coast Guard but he plans to pursue a Master’s De-

gree in the fall. Jacob is the son of Jake and Kim Calo.

Eric Decker graduated from Spring Mills High School and will be attending Potomac State

College in the fall to pursue a degree in Athletic Coaching with a concentration in Strength &

Conditioning. Eric is the son of David & Cathy Decker.

Ryan Decker graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelors of Science degree in

Journalism and will be working as a news and sports reporter for WBOY TV in Clarksburg, WV.

Ryan is the son of David & Cathy Decker.

Read: Matthew 6: 5-13

When we pray, we need to keep it sincere and natural. It should be part of who we are - our whole relationship with God.

This pattern of praying that Jesus has given here is known as the Lord's Prayer. It is just a model of how we should pray. Jesus never meant it to be something we say religiously – just repeating these words. I suppose we could see this as a format on how to pray start-ing with praising our Heavenly Father, committing to Him our daily needs, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness (if it is needed),

deliverance from temptation. Prayer should be a natural part of our lifestyle. Just like talking with a friend. We need to develop a prayer life that is a moment-by-moment relationship with God. Prayer is not some rigid, religious act done every now and then, but conversation with God anywhere, any-time. When we're happy, or feeling sad, or angry, or lonely – no matter how we're feeling we should talk to God.

So as you go about your day, whether it be doing the boring, ordinary things, or going off to school, playing sports – whatever you do, remember you can talk to God.

Due to health issues she is unable to continue providing this service. She has provided a detailed list of the responsibilities required for whoever would be willing to fill her shoes. Please prayerfully consider how you may be able to help.

150th Celebration Renovation Update

Due to the wind storms that occurred in April, we lost a lot of shingles from the roof over the Bible Boot Camp Classroom in the old parsonage. Also, on the flat roof over the kitchen there were small tar bubbles that had burst and were causing additional leaks. Bonded Applicators of Hagerstown, Md. completed the repairs at a cost of $1,650.00.

We had additional repair cost to the new paving in the church parking lot. An area 4 x 4 sank where the foun-dation of the old houses were not filled in properly by the demolition team when the houses were torn down. The re-pair cost $850.00.

Our numbers for the 150th Celebration Renovation Campaign as of May 13th are $92,154.25, from the congrega-tion and $63,700.37, from interest on investments. We have spent $112,744.45, leaving a balance of $43,110.17, for reno-vation projects which include stained glass windows. We have four months to reach our goal of $124,00.00, from the congregation/friends leaving $31,845.75, to raise. I'm a very optimistic person and I believe we can obtain our goal with prayers and God's help. If we average $7,961.44, per month, over the next four months we will attain Calvary's goal for the 150th Celebration Renovation. This campaign has been a team effort by everybody.

CALVARY STORY – JUNE 2018

Let me begin by saying thank you to our choirs for another great year of musical offerings to our Lord! The month of May closed with the Handbell choirs performing two Pentecost pieces and the Chancel Choir singing No Longer Slaves. As a Christian, there is nothing like singing about being forgiven, freed, and born again! For June 3rd we will sing a simple communion an-them called Softly as a Dove. The lyrics sound a little Christmasy but I was focusing more on the Holy Spirit / Pentecost / Communion parts of the text which are also present. On June 10th, the Chancel Choir will close out its season by singing Send Out Thy Light. It sets the words of Psalm 43 which are a prayer for God’s guidance in the midst of trials. The third Sunday in June begins our season of spe-cial music. I know that some Albrights’ and Easts’ will be going on vacation. As of now that means June 17th is open for musicians. For the last Sunday in June I am attempting to book a local Christian band for our church service. The band is called Daniel’s Vision. They have played recently in our parking lot for our antique car shows. They can play contemporary Christian music as well as secular songs with rewritten Christian lyrics. Please continue to pray for my father’s full recovery from hand surgery. It is a tremendous joy to see him back to playing during our services. He has gotten back to the level of playing before the surgery but it is not where he would like to be. There are significant, uncontrollable tremors in certain fingers when he plays with any kind of pressure. Let’s take that as a sign that his hand is still healing and will only get better!
