“3 ORGANIC SEO SECRETS”… Welcome back!
You should’ve already received your KeywordSpy Cheat Sheets, which provided a simple set of
checklists to help you get the most out of this training series. (Did you miss it? You can
download it here.)
Today, we’re going to cover “3 Organic SEO Secrets” that you can use immediately to
improve your business’ organic search engine rankings.
We’re going to cover three separate, powerful strategies related to your SEO efforts.
First, we’ll talk about using the KeywordSpy Organic data to improve your current business
SEO reporting, tracking, and rankings.
Next, we’ll reveal a unique way to find profitable keywords that you are confident you can
rank for “easily”.
Lastly, we’ll dive into using the Keyword Spy Organic ranking data for competitor research,
and specifically how to keep track of the SEO efforts of your most aggressive competitors.
So let’s get started…
Revealing your current, “hidden” organic rankings…
Chances are, if you’ve already worked with SEO for any amount of time, you’ve got a pretty
good idea of what keywords your website is currently ranking for.
Or do you?
What we’re about to reveal is a simple method that will help even the most advanced SEO
strategists to uncover “hidden” keywords that they weren’t even aware they were ranking for
already.

Keep in mind, KeywordSpy tracks the Top 20 organic rankings across Google, Bing, and Yahoo
(making up 97% of all search traffic).
And since Keyword Spy automatically does this on a regular basis for over 125,000,000+
keywords, you’ll be amazed at what you find about your business rankings in this process.
It’s possible to uncover dozens, or even hundreds (thousands?) of keywords that you didn’t
even realize you already ranked for within the Top 20 organic results.
And we don’t have to tell you how valuable this data can be.
(After all, if you don’t know you’re already ranking for these terms, it’s unlikely that you’ll ever
spend time optimizing for them!)
And because you already got your site listed in the Top 20 results, it’s just a matter of time
before you can push these keyword results even higher…that is, as long as you know WHICH
keywords you are already ranking for!
That’s where your KeywordSpy Membership comes in handy.
Let me show you how easy this really is.
(Note: For this demonstration, we’ll be logged into a KeywordSpy Professional Membership
Account to view the entire data set and allow us to export all the organic ranking data so
that we can work with it easily. We’ll also be using the same URL we have been researching in
this entire lesson series.)
Step 1: Login to your KeywordSpy Account
Step 2: Type in your domain URL and choose the Domains radio button and Search.
Step 3: Click on the Organic Keywords tab.

That’s it.
We now have a list of every keyword that our domain ranks for organically (Top 20), and
additional information as well.
Let’s now talk about the valuable data you now see in this tab.
First, there is the Keyword and the Organic Ranking Position:
In the next two columns, you can see the Keyword Monthly Search Volume (Broad Match) and
the Average Cost Per Click (Google Adwords):
The 5th column reveals a proprietary KeywordSpy metric called Traffic%. This metric gives
you an indication of what percentage of the total traffic comes from a specific keyword.
(Based on the Search Volume AND Position of the keyword!)
The 6th column is also a proprietary KeywordSpy metric called Estimate Market Value. It is a
percentage of the value of the keyword based upon Volume, Cost Per Click, and Traffic%.

In columns 7 and 8, we can see the number of Ads (Google Adwords) and the number of
competing pages (Google) for this particular keyword. These two metrics can be helpful to
determine the overall competition and perceived profitability of a keyword.
The URL column is particularly helpful to determine what specific page of the domain is
ranking for the particular keyword. We’ll discuss ways to use this data a little later in this
lesson.
The “List of Keywords” icon is also very helpful to determine the number of keywords, and
value that a particular page of the site represents:

I’m sure you can already see how important this data from KeywordSpy would be to your
business.
But let’s talk about one specific use for this data.
Let’s sort this list of keywords and specifically look for keywords that we weren’t aware we
were ranking for:
Now, let’s take a look at the results:
Just imagine that after we performed this search, we found these 4 keywords that we weren’t
even aware that we were already ranking for organically (Top 20).
P a g e | 8

In addition to actually seeing our keyword rankings for the first time, we also have new
valuable information about the Search Volume, and CPC data for each keyword:
We also notice that there are 47 other companies who are specifically PAYING to have their
ads displayed for this keyword:
And finally, we can see exactly what page of our site is ranking for this term:
At this point, there are plenty of options for our next actions:
First, we’ll immediately want to add this keyword to our list of keywords to track.
(Note: Your KeywordSpy Professional Membership includes dedicated, daily Organic and
PPC tracking for all of your keywords!)
Next, we’ll certainly want to use the information we have discussed in previous lessons to
determine how profitable this keyword really is.
We can start by doing a simple keyword search and looking over the ROI and Ad
Copy/Position/Landing Page values for those advertisers who are bidding on these terms (as
we have discussed in the previous lessons):

Also, by clicking on the “List of Keywords” icon, we can see the other keywords that this
specific landing page is ranking for organically. This can help us determine if we should
optimize this page for this keyword, or create new pages to target these specific keywords:
Don’t forget, in addition to being able to see ALL the Organic Ranking data with your
Professional Membership, you also have the ability to EXPORT ALL the keywords so that you
can work directly with them at any time.

You can filter and refine the results based on many different factors.
Once you have done that, you can export all that data using either Excel (.xls) or Comma
Separated (.csv) file types that can be opened and viewed in any spreadsheet program:
See how powerful this data is?
And we’re just getting started.
Revealing profitable keywords with “easy” rankings…
Now that we’ve walked through this first process, it’s time to add a small “twist”.
In the previous example, we were trying to find keywords that we already ranked for
organically, but weren’t really aware of.
In this example, we’re going to be finding keywords that are profitable, and that we believe
will be “easy” to rank for.
It’s quick, easy…and like having your own database of millions of domains to use at any time
for SEO testing.
Keep in mind that “how easy” will be up to your own SEO strengths and abilities.
The key here is to find a competitor URL that you are confident you can outrank, based on
your own SEO strengths.

Obviously, the topic of SEO is outside the scope of this lesson series. However, there are some
SEO factors that are commonly used to determine the “SEO strength” of any website. Here are
a few that you might be analyzing:
1. Number of External Backlinks
2. PageRank of the site/page
3. Onpage optimization
4. Age of the website
5. SEO Budget/Marketing Budget
6. Other SEO factors…
Any or all of these factors may play a part when you determine which competitor you want to begin researching.
The key is: Select a website that you feel you could “easily” outrank organically.
That’s it.
Once you have chosen the site(s), it’s time to find out what profitable keywords they are ranking for organically that you could easily be targeting as well.
For this example, we’re just going to select a “hypothetical competitor” for this case study.
Our primary criteria for this selection was Site Age and Number of External Backlinks.
The site we selected is less than one year old, and has very few external backlinks, so we are confident that our “SEO resources” would give us a clear organic ranking advantage and allow us to rank ahead of this competitor for the same keywords.
Now, we just need to find out which keywords this site is ranking for, that we might also be interested in targeting as well.
Let’s just perform another domain search:
P a g e | 12

Now, we click on the Organic Keywords tab:
Next, we want to sort the Position to Ascending:
Sorting these keywords in ascending order will reveal the keywords that they rank the highest for…and which we could ultimately outrank them for and gain a top position as well!
Now, we can simply compare this list of keywords to our own list of ranked keywords to determine which keywords we should focus on first.
(Note: It’s very helpful to use a spreadsheet program to compare the two lists of exported results. This makes it very easy to find those keywords that you are not yet ranking for!)
In this case, when we compare the two Organic Ranking files, we can clearly see which keywords our competitor is ranking for that we are not ranking for at all:
P a g e | 13
© Copyright 2011 KeywordSpy™ - All Rights Reserved. For additional information visit KeywordSpy.com.
Also, keep in mind that you can also compare the positions of both sites. Look for places
where your competitor is ranking in Positions 1-10 and you are ranked in Position 11-20.
These are golden opportunities to improve your rankings and jump ahead of your
competition!
Keep in mind that you can do these steps for ANY competitor or website that you know is an
“easy SEO target”.
(For instance, you can also use this same strategy to research top ranked Articles which are often
“easy SEO target keywords” for any well developed site!)
Now, let’s take this one step further…
Revealing your most aggressive competitor’s rankings…
At this point, you’ve seen two very powerful ways to utilize the Organic Ranking data within
your KeywordSpy Membership.
Let’s quickly talk about the 3rd tactic.
For this example, let’s imagine that you already know a competitor is very aggressive with
their SEO, and you want to be alerted when they are developing new content to rank
organically.
With your KeywordSpy membership, this is actually quite simple.
P a g e | 14
© Copyright 2011 KeywordSpy™ - All Rights Reserved. For additional information visit KeywordSpy.com.
All you need to do is perform an Organic Ranking search (see previous steps) and Export ALL
of the keywords into a single file.
Then simply name the file with a descriptive name like this:
“August-2011-CompetitorName-Organic.xls”
Then, you simply do the exact same procedure again, in a few weeks or a month later:
“September-2011-CompetitorName-Organic.xls”
Since KeywordSpy gives you the exact landing pages that are ranking for a term, you can now
just compare the two files to locate new pages that your competitor is setting up to rank for!
You can also see their improvements for existing pages that they have optimized further!
See how easy and powerful that is?
You can keep a close eye and actually see your competitor’s SEO strategy evolve…and make
quick decisions, without them even knowing you are spying on them!
This is an excellent way to leverage the power of THEIR market research money and make
sure that you aren’t missing Organic SEO opportunities along the way.

These three techniques are incredibly powerful ways that you can leverage the massive
KeywordSpy Organic Rankings database for powerful SEO research.
You can use the first strategy to find keywords that you weren’t aware you were already
ranking for.
Then use the second strategy to locate new keywords that are “easy” to rank for and
profitable to your business.
Finally, you can always keep a close eye on your most aggressive competitors and make sure
you never miss a “Golden SEO Ranking Opportunity” by using their own SEO research money
and resources to your advantage!
In a couple of days, we’ll be sending you another report that shows you how to take this tracking
to another level, using the powerful Tracking features of your Keyword Spy Membership…
