Organic farming
Organic Farming
Organic farming is the form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and control pests on a farm.
METHOD OF PRACTICING
ORGANIC FARMING
Organic farming methods combine scientific knowledge of ecology and modern technology with traditional farming practices based on naturally occurring biological processes.
Organic farming methods are studied in the field of agro ecology.
While conventional agriculture uses synthetic pesticides and water-soluble synthetically purified fertilizers, organic farmers are restricted by regulations to using natural pesticides and fertilizers.
Countries practicing organic farming
Organic farming is practiced across the globe, but the markets for sale are strongest in North America and Europe.
It is practiced in the following countries :- Europe North America Latin America and the Caribbean Oceania
Need of organic farming
Synthetic chemicals are not required. Fields have more nutrients in the soil. Fields have more biological activities and
biodiversity. Organic soil fertility increases over time. Crops have higher levels of vitamins.
IMPACT OF ORGANIC FARMING ON ENVIRONMENT
With the doing away of chemicals in farming, the soil and water around the farms remain pollution free from the farming activities. Also, it has been suggested through some research that organic environments can sustain a larger spectrum of ecosystems.
However, many agricultural scientists argue that in making organic farming as yield-productive as conventional farming, we would end up doing more harm to the environment than good.
