Professor Yunus was born in Bangladesh in 1940. In 1965, he received the Fulbright Scholarship to study economics at Vanderbilt University, and did his Ph.D. in economics in 1969. Professor Yunus returned to Bangladesh in 1972 and joined the Department of Economics at the University of Chittagong, as its Chairman. In 1976, Professor Yunus started to experiment with providing collateral-free loans to the poor. The project later, in 1983, became

He is one of the seven individuals to have received the Nobel Peace Prize, the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom and the United States Congressional Gold Medal. Other notable awards include the Ramon Magsaysay Award (1984), World Food Prize (1994), International Simon Bolivar Prize (1996), Sydney Peace Prize (1998), The Prince of Austria’s award for Concord (1998) and Seoul Peace Prize (2006). United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, invited Professor Yunus to serve as an MDG Advocate. He sits on the Board of United Nations Foundation, Schwab Foundation, Prince Albert ll of Monaco Foundation, Grameen Credit Agricole Microcredit Foundation and Chirac Foundation. He is one of the founding members of The Elders.

The 2015 Atlanta Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates is an important global event organized to promote democratic values
Summit will consist of three and a half days of mini-summits, debates, meetings, workshops and other activities to address the challenges of global civilization. Summit sessions will discuss what actions can be taken to support democracy and world peace. The sessions will cover topics such as youth, education, technology, civil rights, human rights, global health, women’s empowerment, nuclear disarmament, climate change, water/ sustainability, poverty, economic prosperity and global peace.
The organizers of the 2015 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laure-ates are: Yunus Creative Lab, Inc. and the City of Atlanta. The organizing partners of the Summit are The Carter Center, The King Center, the University System of Georgia, the Arthur Blank Family Foundation, and the Captain Planet Foundation. Many other organizations from around the world will be active participants.
The 2015 Summit is timely for Atlanta because it will follow the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Martin Luther King’s receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and the opening of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. The 2015 World Summit of
event for Atlanta since the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. The Summit will celebrate the presence of many Nobel Peace Laure-ates and focus attention on global and local issues relevant to every segment of our diverse community.
