Twenty‐ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time / Vigésimo Noveno Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

NOTES FROM THE RECTORY:

La necesidad de orar siempre. En el Evangelio de esta semana Jesús invita a sus discípulos a orar siempre y a nunca darse por vencido. Sin embargo, sabemos que no es fácil ser fieles en nuestra oración diaria. Inclusive, algunas veces sentimos que nuestras oraciones no son escuchadas. Y hasta pensamos, si Dios está tan anuente a darnos lo que queremos, ¿por qué entonces tenemos que pedírselo muchas veces? La respuesta es simple. La oración no hace referencia a Dios, hace referencia a nosotros. Al rezar le contamos a Dios nuestra historia, le pedimos que nos guie y nos de fortaleza. Pero la oración es, sobre todo, aprender a escuchar y a aceptar la voluntad de Dios. Terry Morrison, profesor de teología, una vez dijo: “muchas veces en nuestra vida no conocemos la voluntad de Dios sólo hasta que empezamos a orar. La oración no consiste en cambiar a Dios, sino mas bien en ponernos nosotros a su disposición. Cada vez que oramos Dios no va a cambiar, nosotros sí.”

El Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos el próximo fin de semana. El Próximo fin de semana tendremos el Sacramento de la Unción en todas las misas y por ello les invito a tener en nuestras oraciones a todos los que padecen de alguna enfermedad física, mental o emocional. Pediremos por todos ellos para que la esperanza y la fuerza que vienen de Dios se derrame sobre ellos al recibir este sacramento. Todos aquellos que están padeciendo alguna enfermedad grave o algún mal crónico, personas ya ancianas, o niños que también padecen de alguna condición delicada se les invita a recibir este sacramento y así también recibir de Dios la paz y el consuelo. Les recuerdo que todos aquellos que quieran recibir este sacramento se registren en la parte de atrás de la iglesia antes de cada misa y así reciban un papel con su nombre.

DESDE LA RECTORIA:

The need to pray always. In the Gospel for this weekend, Jesus encourages his disciples to pray always and never give up. However, we know that perseverance in prayer is not something easy to accomplish in our daily life. Sometimes we even wonder: if God is willing, even eager, to give us what we want, why do we have to keep on asking? The answer is probably here: prayer is not about God; it is about us. Prayer allows us to tell God how we are feeling, ask for guidance and healing, but it is above all our opportunity to learn from God what His will for us is. Or, as Terry Morrison once said, “In many life situations, we don’t know God’s will to us until we pray. Prayer is not so much about changing God’s mind as it is to bring ourselves into alignment with God’s heart. Every time we pray, God stays the same, we change.”

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick this coming weekend. Next weekend, we will be celebrating the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at all the Masses, and for this reason, I invite all in our faith community to pray for those among us who are ill and in need of hope and strength. This sacrament is appropriate for those whose health is impaired by sickness, or for those weakened by advanced age. This includes persons who are seriously ill as well as sick children who are old enough to experience benefit from the sacrament. The primary grace of this Sacrament is a spiritual healing by which the sick person receives the Holy Spirit's gift of peace and courage to deal with the difficulties that accompany serious illness or the frailty of old age. I encourage those who would like to receive this sacrament to register and get a name tag before Mass.

DAY OF THE DEAD In Mexico, as in all of the Catholic world, November 1 and 2 are the days devoted to honor All Saints Day and the celebration of the Day of the Dead. In Mexico, both days are holidays ever since the country was incorporated. El Dia de Los Muertos is a time for visiting the cemetery, cleaning the graves, repainting and repairing head stones and of embellishing the graves with flowers. It is a time of remembrance where the living relate to their dead in direct and familiar ways. We will be celebrating this tradition and we invite you to join us. Our Day of the Dead participation has grown over the years. In order to accommodate the vast amount of pictures submitted, only submit the picture of your loved one, no picture frames allowed. We ask that the picture be no larger than a 5” x 7”. Place the name of your loved one, your name and phone number on the reverse side. The altar will go up on Sunday, October 27th, and will remain up during the month of November. This year we will be holding a bi‐lingual Memorial Prayer Service on Saturday, November 2, 2019 after the 5:00 PM Mass. We are accepting names for the prayer service as well as pictures for the memorial table to honor our loved ones. Both are due in the rectory by Sunday, Oct. 20th!

DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS En México, como en todo el mundo Católico, el 1ro y 2do de Noviembre son los días dedicados para honrar El Día de Todos Los Santos y la celebración del Día de Los Muertos. En México ambos días son días festivos desde que el país fue incorporado. El Dia de Los Muertos es un tiempo para visitar el cementerio, limpiar los sepulcros, pintar y reparar las lápidas y de embellecer los sepulcros con flores. Es una época de recuerdos donde los vivos se relacionan con sus muertos de manera directa y familiar. Estaremos celebrando esta tradición y los invitamos a participar. Nuestra participación en el Altar del Día de los Muertos ha crecido a lo largo de los años. Con el fin de acomodar la gran cantidad de fotos enviadas, solo envía la foto de su ser querido, no se permitirá los marcos. Pedimos que la foto no sea más grande que un 5 "x 7". Ponga el nombre de su ser querido, su nombre y número de teléfono en el lado reverso. Vamos a preparar el altar el domingo, 27 de oct. y permanecerá en la iglesia durante el mes de Noviembre. Este año realizaremos un servicio de oración conmemorativa bilingüe el sábado 2 de noviembre de 2019 después de la misa de las 5:00 PM. Estamos tomando nombres para el servicio de oración, así como fotografías para la mesa conmemorativa en honor a nuestros seres queridos. ¡Ambos deben presentarse en la rectoría antes del domingo 20 de octubre!

Baptismal Preparation Sessions are held at 7:00 PM on the 4th Monday (English) or 1st Thursday (Spanish) of the month at the rectory. Parents and Godparents are expected to attend. Please register at the rectory.

CONVERTS: RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins each year in September, reaches its climax with Baptism or reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday), and concludes on the fiftieth day of Easter, the feast of Pentecost.

COMMUNION CALLS: Please call the Rectory to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick.

SICK CALLS: For confession, anointing of the sick or in any emergency, please call the Rectory.

BAUTISMOS: Inglés: 1er y 3er Domingo del mes a la 1:30 PM

Las pláticas de preparación bautismal son el 1er jueves del mes (español) y el 4o lunes de cada mes (ingles), en la Rectoria. Papás y padrinos deben asistir. Favor de inscribirse en la Rectoría .

MATRIMONIOS: Los preparativos deberán hacerse al menos con 4 meses de anticipación (antes de contratar el salón de recepción) a modo de tener tiempo suficiente para la preparación e instrucción. Favor llamar a la Rectoría para una cita.
