know them of their steady commitment and love for one

another “in good times and in bad, in sickness and in

health.” In an age when steady commitment to any worth-

while endeavor, especially marriage, is challenged, perse-

verance in the pursuit of a dream demands recognition and

admiration. The commitment of two people to one another

in the bond of marriage for life demands great faith on the

part of each in one another and in God. But also requires the

support and encouragement of the Christian community.

That is why the Church understands every wedding as a

community celebration; the couple needs the support of the

Christian community and the community needs the witness

of the married couple as, together, they journey through life. So today, as we honor thirteen of our couples who have

reached a significant milestone in their marriages, we pray

that the God who brought them together will continue to

bless and strengthen their married love and grant us the wis-

Linda Ryan on the loss of her beloved sister, Mrs. Tanya Jackson, who passed away from this world on August

5th, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. Let us keep Linda and her

Youth and Children Religious Education Classes will begin on August 28th. Because of

the impending construction in the school, im-

portant information needs to be communicated.

Therefore, all parents and students should meet

in the church at 11:45am. After the meeting, the

students will go to their classes. Registration will

VIGÉSIMO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

Mis Hermanos, hoy, la palabra de Dios nos invita a reflexionar

sobre la radicalidad del seguimiento de Cristo. En otras

palabras cuán serio y exigente es el seguir a Jesús y vivir

fielmente al Evangelio.

La afirmación que San Lucas pone en boca de Jesús: “He

venido a prender fuego a la tierra, ¡ Y cuánto deseo que ya

esté ardiendo!” sorprende, de entrada, por su agresividad,

como si Jesús quisiera ejecutar una sentencia. En este caso

son muchos los que creen que no se trata de la impacien-

cia por ejecutar un juicio, sino que hay que remitirse al

relato de Pentecostés en el cual el Espíritu es representado

en forma de llamarada o de fuego. Por tanto “prender fue-

go a la tierra” expresa que el deseo y la misión de Jesús es

que el Espíritu penetre en el corazón de la tierra. Así pues,

según esta interpretación, Jesús mas bien habla de un

deseo apasionado, vehemente, que no de una realidad

conseguida de la que quiera hacer un balance, una val-

oración de la misión que implique un juicio. El evangelista

nos lo sitúa en su camino hacia Jerusalén, y vamos viendo

que no todo el mundo acepta su palabra. Ejemplo de esta

realidad lo tenemos en las lecturas de hoy:

Jeremías 38,4-10 Me engendraste hombre de pleito para

todo el país.

Nos señala la dura misión del profeta. La denuncia nun-

ca es bien recibida. Todo lo contrario. Pero el profeta no

abandona su misión.

El destino del profeta: Hablar de parte de Dios y anunciar

lo que Dios le ha encomendado. Esto no lo aceptan las

autoridades. Por eso, se lo condena.

La confianza del profeta. Jeremías padece tal persecución

a causa de su fidelidad a la voluntad de Dios. Y es salvado

por el Señor.

Seguir el camino de Jesús.

Acoger honestamente la Palabra de Dios significará que

hay que mantener unos criterios de comportamiento de

acuerdo con los valores de Dios.

Cuando el evangelio nos habla de división no es que Jesús

busque la confrontación por si misma, sino que es la con-

secuencia de la no aceptación de la práctica de sus valores

en el corazón de cada persona y de la sociedad.

Por eso, el vivir coherentemente el evangelio es un serio

desafío a nuestro vivir Cristiano. Este es el fuego que debe-

mos vivir para ir, con la gracia de Dios, transformando un

mundo Nuevo en la Justicia y en la Verdad.

Grupo de Oración El Grupo de Oración de nuestra Parroquia San Pablo de la

Cruz, el día 10 de Agosto ppdo. renovó su ‘comisión’. Es

decir, se eligieron los nuevos Coordinadores. A ellos les

damos la bienvenida y les auguramos un muy feliz trabajo

para la Gloria de Dios. Que pongan todo sus esfuerzos para
