In accordance with Minnesota Rules, Chapter 8820.1400, Subparts 1 and 2, forty (40) percent of the regularand municipal allotments shall be set aside for the general maintenance of county state-aid highways.However, the Commissioner may, upon recommendation of the screening board, or upon receipt of aresolution from a county board, and for good cause shown, increase or decrease the proportion to be used formaintenance.

In accordance with the Laws of Minnesota for 1975, Chapter 203, Section 23, Subd 2a, a town bridgeaccount has been established. These funds may be used in conjunction with federal funds for the replacementof in place bridges 20 feet or more in length and/or grants from the Minnesota State Transportation Fund for thereplacement of in place bridges 10 feet or more in length. The allowable participation from the town bridgeaccount can be up to 100 percent of the eligible items.

The following listings shows the deficient town bridge needs by county, as determined by the bridge inspectionand inventory programs, and the 2009 town bridge allotments, which have been made in accordance with the formula as prescribed by law.

In accordance with Minnesota Rules, Chapter 8820.1400, Subpart 3, twenty-five (25) percent of the totalallocation, if requested by the urban municipality before December 16 preceding the annual allocation, or$1,500 per mile of improved municipal state-aid streets, is the minimum allotment for the general maintenanceof the approved state-aid system. The Commissioner may modify the minimum allotment to finance the amountneeded to pay the interest due on municipal state-aid bonds and to accommodate the screening boardresolutions pertaining to trunk highway turnback maintenance allowances. Those municipalities desiring toreceive an amount greater than the established minimum, not to exceed thirty-five (35) percent of the totalallocation, shall file a request with the commissioner before December 16 preceding the annual allocation, andshall agree to file a detailed annual maintenance expenditure report at the end of the year.
