Greetings Everyone!!
Now that the weather is good for crops, I would like to share some information about fruits andvegetables. Many older adults don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Only 30 percent of people65 and older eat five or more daily servings of fruits and vegetables – the minimum amount recommended for good nutrition. While more seniors than younger people meet this suggested allotment, the numbers still fall short.
Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables is especially important as you get older, because the nutrients and fiber in these foods can help reduce high blood pressure, lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, and certain cancers, stave off eye and digestive problems – and simply satisfy yourhunger.
As you get older, certain age-related changes can make it more difficult to get the fruits andvegetables you need including: difficulty chewing, changes in taste, mobility problems, lack of motivation to cook, and changes in appetite.
Follow these tips for increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables you eat each day: add fruitand vegetables to every meal, try new produce, cook vegetarian, snack on produce, and find waysto incorporate fruits and vegetables into foods you already eat. To get the most out of the fruits
