1 Purpose of this operation guide

This guide describes how to operate the TMC 3 wind turbine controller, and serves the personnel. This microprocessor based wind turbine controller is first of all designed for small and medium sized wind turbines, ranging from 5kW op to 1 MW. The controller is handy, uncomplicated and offers an easy to use functionality. The purpose of this manual is to help the user understand and operate the controller from the operation display panel. Use it frequently for making the best possible use of the system. Though TMC 3 is simple and intuitive for the operation personnel, we recommend to keep a copy of this manual available permanently at the TMC 3 installation site, to facilitate the necessary service and operation tasks. The manual is published by ORBITAL A/S, without any form for guaranty for it’s content. Improvements and changes of this manual caused inexactitudes of information or improvements of software or/and hardware can at any time and without any notice be proved by ORBITAL A/S. At such modifications a new editions of this manual will be published.

7 Setup

The setup menu’s consist of a number of sub setup based menu’s to configure and setup the wind turbine controller system. ( Parameter, Eventlog, Energy counter, Input configuration, Clock, Language etc. ) Please see a more detailed menu description in the Menu guide for the specific turbine type. Below is a description for each Setup sub menu.

7.1 Access

An important part of the setup menu’s is the user rights and access facilities. To avoid an unfortunate and inappropriate user caused system configuration, the system demands a valid password to get the necessary access and rights to change any kind of system settings. Basically the operation system allow all type of users ( Access level = 0 ) to monitor the setup based settings, if a user needs to change/modify a setup parameter, the system requires an access level greater that 0. That means the user needs to enter a valid password number before the system give Access and rights to the actual level greater than 0. The operation system supports 3 access levels. Access level = 0 Guest ( all users ) Access level = 1 Service Access level = 2 Administrator Fig. 6 describes an example where a user change the access level from 0 to 1, by the fictitious password = 1334. First enter the Access level menu, press <Right> and enter/edit the password number, and press <Enter>, then the system indicates the actual Access level, that gives right to change settings in all the setup menu’s.

7.2 Parameter

Parameter setting of the controller system ( setpoints change ) is an very important part to achieve the best performance of your wind turbine, therefore it’s important to understand the meaning of each parameter. ( See the turbine specific parameter document to get all the basic understanding for each parameter ) Fig. 6 illustrates an example how to change a parameter value. ( given an Access level > 0 ) To enter the parameter editing menu, press <Right> in the Setup... main menu, browse to the Setup/Parameter... sub menu, and press <Right> again to enter the first parameter value. All parameters are arranged in a vertical list, grouped by 100 ( [0000], [0100], [0200] ). Press <Enter> and <Up> or <Down> to browse through parameters groups, or simply press <Up> or <Down> to single browse. ( Each parameter has a number, value, unit type and a text description ) Press <Right> to enter the parameter editing menu with a characteristic blinking/flashing cursor. Press <Right> to move/rotate the cursor, and <Up> or <Down> to change/editor the parameter value. The minimum and maximum allowed/valid value is listed in the menu.
