ORANGE & BLUE REVIEW Year 8! by Dr. Michele Polk, HHS Principal As I begin my eighth year as the principal at Hardee Senior High School, I feel privileged to have the opportunity to continue serving in a position that allows me to work toward strengthening the educational foundation, character, and service mindset of the youth of this community. I mean, who wouldn’t want this job? The last seven years have provided me a front row seat to the transformation of our faculty into twenty first century educators. I have seen our athletes receive accolades from opponents and referee organizations for the sportsmanship they have demonstrated, regardless of the scoreboard. I have seen our students embrace what it means to be part of a service club. They know it’s more than just showing up for the yearbook picture; they have learned to roll up their sleeves and work for their community. These are the things that motivate and propel me out of bed each morning. It is only natural, at the beginning of a new school year, for me to reflect on where we’ve been and consider how we can continue to become even better. It does seem sometimes that for every two steps we collectively take forward, we fall back one. While that phenomenon might be explained away as a simple reality of life, I know that if we continue to work hard and each person seeks to improve how they fulfill their role, then our students and teachers can accomplish even more amazing things. The success of our school depends on all stakeholders being committed to their work. Our teachers and staff are the paid employees, but our students also have a job to do here; as do our parents, business partners, local pastors, and community leaders. We all contribute in our individual way to the success of our youth. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for the work you’ve done with me these last seven years and know that I look forward to a most outstanding year 8!
