As you would be aware the NSW Department of Educaon and Communies is in the process of a significant change to its internal structures which involves all senior staff posions changing. Staff currently in these posions need to reapply for similar posions under the new structures. Ms Furney has indicated that she will not be applying. I have worked with Ms Furney for most of the 12 years I have been in Dubbo and respect her intellect immensely. Some of the innovave and technologically advanced programs and projects she has iniated have been extremely beneficial to all of our students. We wouldn’t have interacve whiteboards, for example, in every classroom in Dubbo Public and High Schools without her systemic knowledge. I am sure Ms Furney will stay involved in educaon in some form or other and her knowledge won’t be lost but I wish her well in whatever pathway she chooses. Personally I appreciate all the support she has provided for me over the years. Congratulaons Kindergarten students who won their dance secon at the eisteddfod last week. Their robot dance, which they performed for the school at the assembly last week, was excellent. With 1/2K and 1M also winning we are “bang 100%” i.e. two entries for two wins. Well done to all of the students and staff involved. As indicated in previous newsleers the school has been placed on the Naonal Partnership for Literacy and Numeracy Program. We had to select a focus which is comprehension within Literacy. Our planning team is meeng this Friday to put together the changes within the school as we focus on this area. Year 1 will be parcipang in Child Protecon lessons next term. You only have to look at the media to see that it is crical that students are very aware of child protecon and safety. Notes will go home to parents prior to this commencing however I strongly urge all parents to sign these and let their children parcipate – child protecon is everyone’s responsibility. Kindergarten packages for students enrolling for 2014 are available at the office. If you know anyone who is intending to enrol their child next year could you let them know the process, which is to collect an enrolment package, complete the documentaon and return this to the school. The sooner we receive these the easier and smoother the start to next year will be. Student reports will be sent home soon. Please feel free to contact class teachers aſter receipt of these to organise an interview for further informaon or clarificaon of any points. A quick message from Ms Connolly – if anyone is interested in possible employment as a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) please send her your resume. We may have some opportunies for employment coming up next term. Our planning team is meeting this Friday to put together the changes within the school as we focus on this area.

SPORT TERM TWO PSSA SPORT - This Friday sees the last PSSA sport games for Term 2. Unfortunately with the wet weather students haven’t enjoyed too many games this term. Term 4 PSSA sport will be here before we know it.

WESTERN AREA CROSS COUNTRY - Well done to the following students who braved a very wet and cold day in Wellington last Wednesday to represent Dubbo District at the Western Area Cross Country: Chelsea Edwards, Haylee Fuller, Jacob Clarke, Jesse Spang, Ryan Simpson, Aiden Lake, Rhys French & Sam Bass. Congratulations Jesse Spang and Haylee Fuller on making it through to State Cross Country in Sydney next term.

RED DAY - Thank you to all the families who supported Red Day last Thursday. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side. Most classes were able to get out at some stage throughout the day and doing some skipping/dancing/games. The pizzas were a huge success and all the profits go back into the school. Jump Rope for Heart Sponsor sheets are due back at school by Friday this week. Prizes will be here in Term 3.

NSW PSSA OPEN RUGBY LEAGUE CARNIVAL - This week Kenny Bell and Aiden Lake of Orana Heights Public School front up against the best primary school rugby league players in the state. Kenny and Aiden were selected after displaying well-refined skills and an outstanding attitude at the Western PSSA trials in March. Western hosts this year’s NSW PSSA Open Rugby League Carnival at Apex Park in Dubbo and the team is under no illusion that all eyes will be on them to perform. Western teams are traditionally considered the poorer country cousins in this competition and don’t often have the size to match it with the bigger, stronger players from metropolitan teams, but this year coach Andrew Hooper of Grenfell Public School, has a game plan to emphasise the extraordinary speed and skill of the Western team. “Controlling the ruck will be the key for our boys particularly in defence, slowing down any momentum the bigger teams may try to obtain. “ says Hooper. He explains “Then maximising the use of the ball with quick play the balls allowing the boys to work their way to the fringe of the ruck will really test the opposition. The boys know that bodies in motion in attack will have the opposition in two minds and give them space to run to”. Many of the team have played in previous teams together and have showed a great cohesion for a team put together over such distance from areas including Wallerawang, Portland, Orange, Dubbo, Kandos, Cowra, Narromine and Parkes. All of Western PSSA send their best wishes to the boys and know they will do their very best.

NSW PSSA BOYS HOCKEY CARNIVAL - Next week Ryan Simpson will represent Western NSW at the Boys State Carnival in Narellan. Ryan travelled to Lithgow back in early May to try out for the team. He is the only Dubbo boy in the team this year. Well done Ryan and we wish you all the best.

ORANA HEIGHTS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Date: Friday 9th August Time: 9am-3pm Venue: Barden Park Attending: Year 2 students turning 8 this year and all primary students. Try outs will be held for shot put, discus & long jump at school. High jump will be run as a straight final at school. Parent helpers will be needed on the day to assist with timekeeping, field events and in the canteen. Yours in Sport, Mrs Hall

SCHOOL LAP-A-THON - Change of date! End of Term 3. This is a FUNDRAISER for the school. 90% of funds raised through sponsorship for the school lap-a-thon goes to the school. In previous years our school lap-a-thon has raised close to $10,000 for our school. This money was used to buy iPads, iPods and books for the library. We hope to see the same support from families in 2013.
