Should I try it?
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure13 19.11.2015
Oracle
Database
Yes, I am
relational!
A nice Cloud
Platform
Azure Funktionen für Oracle Datenbanken
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure19 19.11.2015
Vorkonfigurierte Software 11.2.0.4 oder 12.1.0.1/12.1.0.2
Flexibles Diskmanagement
Standalone Oracle DB, Data Guard und Golden Gate verfügbar
Konfigurieren und Erstellung eigener Images für die schnelle Bereitstellung und
Automatisierung
Konfiguration mit PowerShell und Azure-CLI
Oracle Real Application Cluster RAC wird
nicht unterstützt
ASM Konfiguration möglich
I/O Limite liegt bei ca. 500 IOPS pro Disk
bei normalen Disks, Premium Storage < 5000
Oracle Linux 6/7 - Enterprise Edition
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure20 19.11.2015
In den von Microsoft zur Verfügung gestellten Images sind nur die Oracle RDBMS /
Weblogic Binaries konfiguriert
– User oracle angelegt
– Linux-Packages installiert
– OS Parameter gesetzt
Welche VM Serie passt?
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure22 19.11.2015
Standard und Basic Tier
– Basic hat u.a. kein load-balancing und auto-scaling
Standard Tier
– D-series VMs: higher demand computing, SSD local Disk, faster CPU, more
memory
– G-series VMs: biggest size and best performance, Intel Xeon E5 V3 CPUs
– DS- and GS-Series VMs: can use premium Storage (high performance and low
latency, local SSD as OS Disks and disk cache
– A8/A10: zusätzlicher Netzwerkadapter für «remote direct memory access» (RDMI)
Grösse und Typ bestimmen (natürlich) den Preis!
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-size-specs/
Tier Konfiguration
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure23 19.11.2015
Je nach Tier sind
unterschiedliche Kombinationen
Memory / CPU / Storage
möglich
Die Auswahl erfolgt beim
Erstellen einer virtuellen
Maschine und kann nachträglich
geändert werden
Erstellen einer VM mit dem Oracle Image
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure24 19.11.2015
Für das Login in die Linux-VM kann zusätzlich ein
SSH-Key mitgegeben werden
Die Maschine wird dann mit dem SSH-Key
konfiguriert
Als Alternative kann das Login wie User/Passwort
erfolgen
Nach 5 Minuten ist die VM einsatzbereit
Oracle 12c EE/SE Basisausstattung Linux (1)
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure25 19.11.2015
Zugriff erfolgt via IP oder DNS-Name
– Putty, MobaXterm, SecureCRT etc.
Laufwerk /u01 mit installierter Oracle Software 12.1.0.1
– ohne Patch, /u01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1
Diskkapazität 40GB / Temporär 100GB
Parameter gesetzt / Packages installiert / User oracle angelegt
– YUM Package oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall wurde eingesetzt
sudo su – zu root möglich
[azureoracle@tvdlxora12101ee ~]$ sudo su -
[sudo] password for azureoracle:
[root@tvdlxora12101ee ~]#
Master Image erstellen
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure26 19.11.2015
Die attachted Disks werden ebenfalls hinzugefügt
Eine fixe IP muss neu vergeben werden
Storage Redundanzen
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure28 19.11.2015
Azure bietet fünf verschiedene Redundanzen an:
Locally Redundant
Geo-Redundant
Read Access-Geo-Redundant
Zone Redundant
Premium Locally Redundant
Nicht alle Varianten sind in allen Datacenter und für alle Datentypen (bspw. Blobs)
verfügbar
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-redundancy
Storage Kennzahlen
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure29 19.11.2015
Die maximale Leistung ist ebenfalls abhängig durch die Charakteristik der VM, so
kann bspw. eine kleine Maschine der Kategorie A3/Basic maximal 8 Disks à 300
IOPS haben
Storage Disk Type Basic P10 -SSD P20 –SSD P30 - SSD
Diskgrösse bis 1023GB 128 GB 512 GB 1023 GB (1 TB)
IOPS pro Disk 300 500 2300 5000
Durchsatz pro Disk 60 MB/s 100 MB/s 150 MB/s 200 MB/s

Oracle
– Ein Grossteil des Oracle SW
Portfolios ist in Azure
– Kopierbare Images aus der public
Gallery vereinfachen den Einstieg
– Private Master Images als
Templates konfigurierbar
– Vorinstallierte SW und OS-
spezifisch Settings sind konfiguriert
– Unterschiedliche SW
Kombinationen auf fast beliebigen
VM Variaten decken vielfältigste
Anwendungsbereiche ab
Azure
– Führende Cloud Plattform mit
Softwarestack für Public, Privat und
Hyprid Einsatz
– Viele Infrastruktur und Developer
Themen sind schon gelöst
– SDDC Funktionalitäten ermöglichen
flexible Architekturen unter Einbezug
der Security Anforderungen
– Einfache Administration und
Abrechnung, sowie Einbindung in
Betriebsprozesse durch
Automatisation

Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure55 19.11.2015
Kosten
– Preiskampf unter den Grossen,
Grosse Preisdynamik (nur in eine
Richtung günstiger)
– Break Even Rechnungen sind
einfach machbar durch kalkulierbare
Enterprise Agreements (EA)
– Oracle Lizenzen können auf
Stundenbasis abgerechnet werden
– Bei One-Time, On-Off oder agilem
Kapazitätsbezug sehr guter
Business Case
– Promos sind am Laufen
Support
– Azure und der darunterliegende
Virtualisierungslayer (Hyper-V) ist
voll supported
– Microsoft Support ist als single point
of contact für Cloud UND Oracle
Support verfügbar (Pay as you go)
– Bei Oracle Lizenztransfer in die
Cloud (BYOL) Modellen ist der
Oracle Support wie gehabt
zuständig
– Reiner Azure Support bleibt bei
Microsoft
Ideal für Software defined Datacenter (SDDC)
Sleeping with the enemy - Oracle @ Azure56 19.11.2015
Sehr gute compute und storage Leistung
Alle Netzwerkmöglichkeiten
Automatisation via Powershell
BYOL für Oracle
(Licensed offering with schwachem support model)
Es ist mehr als nur eine Affäre
Potential für eine Romanze
