"oracle cloud
products are not
mature"
myth #1
Backups and security are always majorconcerns when it comes to Cloud
products’ maturity. 4-5 years ago, most ofthe CEOs would have said NO to the
Cloud in a heartbeat because of stabilityand security concerns. Today, ERP Cloudhas been available for 5 years, HCMCloud for over 7 years, and both havebeen built on 20 years of technology.
From the maturity perspective, there areover 1,000 ERP customers – a number
which speaks for itself.
"we have to move
all of our
applications to the
cloud"
myth #2
Having multiple servers or data centersunquestionably comes with a high cost. However, is moving everything to the
Cloud really worth it? Your company willneed to consider its strategic
investments, evaluate what makes senseto be kept in-house and what Oracle cantake care of in the Cloud by using best of
breed technology.
"on premise
applications are
more secure than
cloud ones"
myth #3
Security is a risk for most companies;some even have their own Chief SecurityOfficer (CSO). Oracle is the only vendor
who can secure the application,
database and hardware layers since theybuild all of these components. On top ofthe security of the applications, Oracleeven offers “embassy grade” security fortheir data centers. Ultimately, Oracle’sentire Cloud strategy rests on providing
world class security.
"we can just
migrate oracle ebs
to the cloud"
myth #4
Running only one script to geteverything to the Cloud? That’d be thedream come true. Even though there aremany similarities between EBS and theCloud – same ledger structure, samechart of accounts – many other thingsare fundamentally different and there’sno practical way to migrate them. Howwe’ve done business in the past 10-15years compared to how we do businesstoday has significantly changed, yourbusiness has probably evolved as well, and moving to the Cloud is a greatopportunity to have your applications
reflect that.
"multitenant is the
best way to do
cloud"
myth #5
The commonly used single database,
shared with everyone, is nothing if not ateam player: if something goes down,
then all customers go down with it. Yourdata might be compromised to a certain
extent, but you don’t need tocompromise to much anymore. Oraclehas chosen a dedicated, virtualized
tenancy for the Cloud which is simplifiedand secure. You get your isolated,
virtualized environment with dedicatedcomputing resources providing greatflexibility in your daily operations.
"moving to the
cloud will cost a
fortune"
myth #6
Nowadays, companies don’t need tomake a huge investment to be able touse best of breed ERP systems. It used tobe a million dollars to get Hyperion
Planning. Now, we are talking about lessthan $50K. However, while Oracle takescare of the technical backend, there’s stilla lot of work to be done for maintainingit. So when you move to the Cloud, makesure you include these ongoing expenses
in your budget.
"once we implement,
we are all set"
myth #7
Oracle takes care of the technicalbackend of the Cloud applications, but you still need to maintain it.There are two upgrades every year, you need to decide what new
functionalities you want to take in.
Make sure you include budget for on-
going activities.
"my business is
unique and needs
customizations"
myth #8
Companies often think that theirbusiness is so unique that they will needmultiple customizations. In the end,
however, most realize that thefunctionality they need has been
available in the business software formany, many years. Oracle continues toadd new features and functionalities toeach software release, but there are
some cases where adjustments are stillnecessary. In particular with SaaS, Oracleprovides the option to customize yourapplications - it's called Platform As A
Service (PaaS). With PaaS, you can createyour own modules and functionalities.
"cloud cannot
handle our
international
subsidiaries"
myth #9
It depends. North America and EMEAare covered pretty well especially with
Cloud Release 11. However, theglobalizations are things like “in
Switzerland you have to collect thereligion for each employee, while inthe US that’s illegal”. The other thingsare localizations, which vary from onecountry to another, like VAT integrationin Brazil, asset reporting in India –
those need to be considered on a caseby case basis.
"only big companies
can run oracle
cloud"
myth #10
A few years ago, when people startedtalking about the Cloud, one of themost common doubts that appearedamong C-level executives was whether
Oracle Cloud was only for bigcompanies. These days, Oracle hasopened up the Cloud for new
customers from a price and complexitystand point and that has changed
everything...
