We have a blind beaglier named Patch that justturned 1, around Aug 2015 we decided that sheneeded some training as she was picking up somebad habits, such as chewing furniture and softfurnishing, jumping on people and not letting go,etc. We searched the internet to see if anyone diddog training for blind dogs and was unable to findanything specific so then looked for dog trainingthat catered for beagles (ie. dogs that used theirsense smell a lot which was a trait she seemed to have). We came across Affinity Dog trainingand after speaking to Christian about the techniques that he uses and whether those techniqueswould work for a blind dog we decided to try it out. It was the best decision we have made forPatch. Christian uses voice commands and different tones to help the dog understand whatbehaviour is good and bad. He spends time with the owners to help them learn the techniquesso they can continue training with the dog. After 4 weeks of training we had a better behaveddog and we had a better understanding of how to communicate with her. As time goes by wecontinue to use these techniques to develop her skill set and being a blind dog we have acceptedthe challenge to see how far we can take the training. It amazes me each and every time atwhat she has achieved and continues to achieve.

Amazing Dog Advanced Program

The courses are designed to have owners spend less time away from their dogs whilstachieving very high standards when the dogs are back home again.

On the 20 day course:Training commands to cover: (UNDER DISTRACTION) Heeling (loose leash walking) Sit Sit and Stay (Sit step away – on and off leash) Drop Drop and Stay (Drop step away – on and off leash) Leave it Place (Stay on bed or mat) Recall (Come to me – on and off leash) Away (leave you alone at the table - give you some space) Good behavior shaping - eg. Wait at door / threshold, stop counter surfing, deter
pushy actions Low , Medium and High level behaiour problems solved – (any aggression issues
would have to be assessed before commencement of program) High levels of on-leash reliability along with foundation off-leash training (see below) Bonus in-home training session approx. 1-2 weeks after the dog has returned home
or alternatively anytime within 12 months of the last day of the board and train.
Off-Lead Obedience Training (UNDER DISTRACTION)
This course is designed to give owners a more in-depth level of control and understanding inrelation to their dogs. All exercises are first done on lead, the stay exercises are done off lead...and then we demonstrate sit, drop, recall and stay exercises totally off-lead (to give you someidea of the standard - drop stays will have been pre-trained around the training facility to a levelof 1 hour under distraction). The extra time on this course allows for the practice off leadexercises in many, many different situations, usually with other dogs running around! Off leadtraining is to an introductory level, but as you will see when your dog returns home, this is still avery high standard.
