    JOB OPENING

    Become an Optimist Club Ambassador!

Every Optimist Club is invited to have one Member designated as the Club’s Ambassador to Optimist International. You would receive monthly email updates to share with the Club. In return, you would provide news about the Club’s service projects to Optimist International for possible inclusion in the magazine and online. It is a new way of strengthening the communications between Clubs and Optimist International.

    Coach’s CornerDear Fellow Optimists,

Last night I had a bad dream and I would like to tell you about it.

Once upon a time, there was an organization whose main purpose was to inspire the best in

children. After many years and for many reasons, the devoted volunteers had forgotten to recruit new Members and to build new Clubs in different communities. That meant the Optimist Members got tired of working by themselves and very often left their Clubs. Bit by bit, the Clubs had to shut down due to the lack of new Members and after a few years, this wonderful organization did not exist anymore.

Suddenly, the phone rang. I jumped up only to find out that someone had built a new Club and they were calling to give me the good news. I was so happy to realize what I had just experienced was only a bad dream!

Help me to make sure that what I dreamt that night stays a bad dream and never becomes reality. I would prefer the big and beautiful dream of Optimist Clubs being alive and well for many years and to know they are there to bring out the best in kids for the future.

Deadlines Approach for Bylaws Amendments & Convention Resolutions

The time to speak up is now. Please take time to re-evaluate the Optimist International Bylaws and make sure they continue to effectively serve the organization. By doing this, you and your Club can help shape and improve all of Optimist International.

If your Club wants to recommend a revision, it must submit a proposed amendment citing the article and section, and exact proposed wording change to all articles and sections cited, along with a written rationale (in 200 words or less) for the change. The Club must submit the proposal on Club letterhead signed by the Club President. The proposal may be e-mailed or faxed to the International Office, but the original Club letter must be received in the International Office in order for the proposal to be considered.

The rationale as submitted will be printed in the May issue of the Hotline. All submitted changes will be brought before the 2013 Convention delegates for vote and possible endorsement.

All proposed change submissions for the Bylaws must be received at the International Office by 5 p.m. (CST) April 5, 2013. Items postmarked on or before but received after April 5 will not be accepted. Please mail them to: Dana Thomas, Executive Assistant, Optimist International, 4494 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.

Resolutions for All Other Subjects The Convention Resolutions Process can be

used for any aspect of the organization not covered in the Bylaws. Clubs must submit resolutions by May 5, 2013, to the Resolutions Committee. The committee will choose the strongest resolutions and report them to Convention delegates for debate and vote (note: Resolutions endorsed by Convention delegates are non-binding and are sent to the International Board of Directors for further consideration and study).

Please type resolutions on Club stationery and include your Club name, Club number and Club President’s signature. All resolutions should be written in standard resolution format: “Whereas … , Whereas … , Whereas … , Be it resolved that the Board of Directors of Optimist International is asked to consider… .” Please mail your resolutions to: Resolutions Committee, Optimist International, 4494 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.

Call for Nominations for the Board of Directors

If you have completed a full term as a Governor, you are eligible to run as a nominee for a three year term on the Optimist International Board of Directors. The deadline for nominations is February 1, 2013. If you are interested in the running for the position at the International Convention in Cincinnati, please contact the International Office or send a letter to:

Optimist International, Board Member Nomination, 4494 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63108

Become a Certified TrainerMake plans now to attend the Mid-Year Club Trainer

and District Trainer classes. These sessions will be held in St. Louis at the Optimist International headquarters on Saturday, January 19, beginning at noon until approximately 7:00pm.

Individuals interested in becoming a part of the Optimist International Certified Trainer program should attend the entry-level Club Trainer Class. For those who are already participating in the Certified Trainer program and have taken the Club Trainer class, the District Trainer Class will be offered. Class sizes are limited, so sign up early!

This is the only time that the District Trainer class will be offered this year. The Club Trainer class will be offered again on Wednesday, July 3 at the Cincinnati convention.

Please keep in mind that a minimum number of participants must sign-up or the classes will not be held. Deadline for registration is December 21.

To register, please contact the Leadership Development department at Optimist International at (800) 500-8130 or by e-mail at [email protected].
