What are reactive power and reactive energy? The reactive power is the power used by some receivers to create electric and magnetic fields, such as electrical motors, lighting systems, etc.

This power is not converted into useful work, instead of increases the total power to be transmitted and distributed by the utilities, therefore it’s overloading the electrical power systems.The reactive energy is the reactive power consumed per hour.

What is power factor?Power Factor is the proportion that exists between active and apparent power, as it`s shown in diagram:

What is power factor correction?It’s the decrease of the reactive power by connecting capacitor banks in the electrical installation. This fact is shown in the previous diagram.

Benefits of power factor compensation1. Reduction of the electricity bill. The cost of electrical bill is reduced by the elimination of the reactive penalty, or the cost of reactive energy. That depends on the different electrical tariff systems existing in the countries.
