OPS-360 - Introduction

OPS-360 System FunctioningThe OPS-360 is the DTX-360 operator station, a SUN-based system designed toprovide the operator with state-of-the-art tools for managing the DTX-360.

The OPS-360 provides the following functions:

Fault Management - Alarm surveillance, event logging and display, fault location,and fault alert facilities.

Configuration Management - Manipulation of all aspects of the DTX-360.

Accounting Management - Produces reports as required.

Performance Management - Monitoring, control, and analysis of the concurrentcommissioning, operation and maintenance of multiple terminals.

Security Management - Authorization and authentication of users, audition ofoperator actions, access control management, and multiple-operator control.

The OPS-360 system enables you to perform the following tasks:

Monitoring the SystemMonitoring the system is the most frequently performed task on the OPS-360. TheOPS-360 is designed to help identify potential problems in the communication flowand prevent or solve them as quickly as possible, keeping telephone users satisfied.In order to identify potential problems throughout the system, the user must be ableto view and access information from the global level down to the most detailed levelwith flexibility and speed.

For this purpose, the OPS-360 displays the status of its components at all levels, asseen in:

The Control Panel which displays the highest alarm level of the site.

The Site Window which displays the status of each cluster at the site.

The Cluster window which displays the status of each terminal in the cluster. Fromthis window, additional information and controls are available to manage theDTX-360 terminals.

Configuring MapsIn the OPS-360 system, a map is a set of system parameters that determines how thelocal terminal will function facing a terminal in a remote site.

While map configuration is probably the least frequently performed task on the OPS-360, it may be the most critical one. Improper configuration – such as maps that arenot synchronized with the far end – may prevent the system from working. To avoidthis, parameters should be set in conjunction with the far end. Proper communicationflow is completely dependent on a correctly tuned "handshake" of the terminals onboth sides of the wire. The map defines this "handshake".

For maintenance and protection purposes, maps are stored on three levels:

In the Map Library. All the maps, except the Background/Foreground maps, arestored here. Maps in the library may be edited and downloaded to any terminal asbackground maps.

As a background map stored in the terminal. The background map is a stand by map,ready for use when changed with the foreground map.

As a foreground map used by the terminal. The foreground map is stored in theterminal and used to determine how the terminal operates. To change the mapparameters, edit the background map and then change between foreground andbackground maps.

You can view and edit maps. If a given map is being edited by one user, it becomes"read-only" for other working OPS-360s in the network.

Producing ReportsYou can use the OPS-360 system to generate and produce various reports for:

Routine information such as traffic and system statistics.

Malfunction handling for listing and diagnosing problems.

Control Panel

General DescriptionThe Control Panel is the starting point for all OPS-360 functions. It comprises thefull work routine involved in operating an OPS-360 system.

The two main functions of the Control Panel are:

To provide information regarding the most urgent alarms at the site

To provide access to OPS-360 tools such as the Configuration Map Library andAdmin

To provide access to other OPS-360 windows

The Control Panel opens automatically when the OPS-360 application starts, andcloses when you exit the application.

The Control Panel consists of:

AdminThe Admin icon enables you to perform various administrative operations on theOPS. Click the Admin icon to open a dialog box with a list of the functionsavailable in this option.

The Admin dialog box offers the following options:

Login

Click to login to the OPS station. A dialog box opens. Enter your User Name andPassword in the fields provided. Click OK to login and Cancel to cancel the operation.

Logout

Click this option to logout. A confirmation window will open with the question: “Areyou sure you want to logout?” Click OK to logout and Cancel to cancel the operation.

Change Password

Click this option to change the password of the currently logged in user. A dialogbox will open, containing the following fields:

User Name - An uneditable field that indicates the currently logged in User Name

Current Password - Enter the password of the currently logged in user

New Password - Enter the user’s new password

Confirm Password - Enter the new password again

Click OK to change the password. Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Show User Information

Click this option to display information regarding the selected user; including accesslevel. A dialog box will open, containing the following fields:

User Name - Indicates the name of the User

Access Level - Indicates the User’s access level (Administrator, Operator, etc.)

Terminals Access - Indicates the extent of the User’s access (Full or Selected NEs)

The Access Table appears below these fields. The terminal and cluster numbers aredisplayed in the rows and columns of this table. The User’s access to a particularterminal in a cluster is indicated by a check mark. All users may have access to allterminals. Operators may have access to all or selected terminals.

Click OK to continue and Cancel to cancel the operation.

Users Management

Click this option to display the access levels of all users at the site. A dialog box opensdisplaying a table of User Names and Access Levels. The buttons below allow anadministrator to Add, Delete or Modify a User Name or Access Level.

To Add a new User, select the User Name from the list and click Add. A dialog boxopens, containing the following fields:

New User Name - Enter the User Name of the new User.

New Password - Enter the password of the new User

Confirm Password - Enter the new password again

Access Level - Indicates the User’s access level (see the list of access levels on thefollowing page)

Terminals Access - Indicates the extent of the User’s access (Full or Selected NEs)

The Access Table appears below these fields. The terminal and cluster numbers aredisplayed in the rows and columns of this table. The User’s access to a particularterminal in a cluster is indicated by a check mark. All users may have access to allterminals. Operators may have access to all or selected terminals.

Click Select All to select all terminals listed in the table. Click Deselect All todeselect all terminals. These editing options are available only to administrators.

Click OK to add the new User. Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

To Delete a User Name, select the User Name from the list and click Delete.

To Modify a User’s password or access rights, select the User Name from the listand click Modify . A dialog box opens, containing the following fields:

User Name - An uneditable field that indicates the selected User Name

New Password - Enter the User’s new password

Confirm Password - Enter the new password again

Access Level - Indicates the User’s Access Level. Click the drop-down list tochange the User’s access level (see the list of access levels on the following page).

Terminals Access - Indicates the extent of the User’s access (Full or Selected NEs).Click the drop-down list to change the User’s access to the terminals.

Click Select All to select all terminals listed in the table. Click Deselect All todeselect all terminals.

Click OK to accept all changes. Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Access Levels

Access rights are a set of pre-defined application features and operations which arenot user-definable. Access level assignment is a function of administrators only.

Administrators can assign the following access levels to users:

• Guest - A read-only access right. This mode allows the user to view events,terminal status and selected reports only. The site, cluster and events as wellas error performance and online reports may be viewed.

• Viewer - A read-only access right. This mode allows the user to viewevents, terminal status, configuration maps, etc. All reports andconfiguration maps may be viewed.

• Operator - The user has full access to a predefined set of clusters and/orterminals. The operator may carry out the following:

• Setup commands (Add/Remove Terminal/Cabinet/CCOM, etc.)

• Lock/Takeover (terminal takeover)

• Update Configuration maps (Map Download/Map Switch)

• Setting a terminal In and Out of configuration

• Shutting down the OPS application

• Administrator - Manages different users and access levels. All access rightsare available to the administrator. Administrators may execute commands onother users, such as adding or removing users, updating users’ access rights,changing users’ passwords, etc.

License Information

Click this option to open a dialog box containing the Feature Usage List Report.This list indicates the availability, usage and overuse (“overdraft”) of selectedfeatures. Choose the features from the Feature drop-down list.

Site Events

This option displays a list of events at the selected site, according to the Time andSource of event. All logins, logouts and exits are shown in this list. Events aredisplayed according to time frames. Click Previous to view old logs, Next toproceed to the following logs and Today for the log of the day. Click Print to printthe Site Events log and Close to close the dialog box.

Log In/OutThe Log In/Out icons enable you to specify a user name and password to login to theOPS-360. This function ensures that only authorized users gain access to thefunctions that they require.

Config Lib (Configuration Library)The Configuration Library icon provides access to the Configuration Map Libraryfor manipulating and editing maps stored in the OPS-360 Map Library. For moreinformation, see Chapter 4, Configuration Map Library.

Help (Context Sensitive)Enables you to access the OPS-360 online help.

ExitProvides you with the following options:

Exit Session – Quits the selected OPS session (Presentation Module only), leavingthe OPS application and all other sessions running.

Shut Down OPS – Terminates the OPS application; all OPS management activitiesare stopped.

Site (Site Window Editor)The Site Icon provides access to the Site window. The Site window enables the userto view all the clusters connected to the site, their names and their alarm status.

Three messages may also be displayed on the Site icon.

Violation - This message indicates a violation of the license terms. The operatormay be using features that were not included in the license or using a feature beyondthose allocated to the operator in the license.

LM_ERR - This message indicates that there is no communication with the LicenseManager Daemon.

Connecting - The OPS-360 Presentation Module is trying to connect to theFunctional Module.

From the Site window, the user can open each of the displayed Cluster windows.

The Cluster windows provide the operator with detailed information about the statusof each element in the cluster(s), and enable the operator to perform the followingtasks:

Message FieldMessages and user information is displayed on the bottom line of the Control Panel.The messages may be of the following types:

Help message - To view a help message, position the cursor on objects you want toknow about in the application. An explanation of the relevant item is displayed onthe left side of the message field.

Current User message - This message indicates which user is currently logged in.The User Name is displayed on the right side of the message field. If no user iscurrently logged in, the message field will read: “No User logged in.”

Courier typeface is used for literal operator input, or file path names.

Preliminary Installation StepsBefore installing the OPS software, make sure that a previous version is not running.If you are upgrading from Pulsar 2.x, you must replace the hard disk. Please contactECI Technical Assistance Center (TAC), Tel: +972 3 9266618 for assistance.

Perform the following steps when installing the software from CD-ROM.

1. Login as ROOT

Before starting, if the OPS360 is running, stop the application:

Press the EXIT Icon on the OPS Control Panel.

Alternately, you may terminate the OPS from an xterm window by typing:

opsCheck -terminate

In the xterm window, type su - (the text includes the letters, a blank space and theminus sign)

Password: sys$ops

2. Mount the CD-ROM

Mount the CD-ROM by doing the following:

mkdir /cdrom ( if it does not already exist)

Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and type:

volcheck; df -k (to verify that the /cdrom is recognized).

3. Enter the Scripts Directory

Type the following to enter the correct directory:cd /cdrom/cdrom0/system

Installing the SoftwareThis section describes the installation and how to handle errors during theinstallation. It also describes the necessary steps for upgrading and first timeinstallation.

To install the software on a SUN workstation:

1. To run the installation, type:installOps

Note: Ignore all WARNINGS output messages.

2. The following message appears:

Do you want to save OPS data from the OPS version already installed [y/n]?

Type ‘y’ if an OPS version is already installed. This saves the current OPS data(cluster configuration and maps) before continuing with the new versioninstallation.

Error Handling

If the OPS installation aborts because of disk space shortage, do the following:

1. Type extractOpsData

2. Type removeOpsVersion <opsVerPath>

where <opsVerPath> is the path to the current or previous OPS version.

The OPS path is :

/usr/local/ops_x.x

(where x.x is the version number, for example ops_4.5)

3. Type installOps -importOpsData <importPathName>

where importPathName is the directory displayed at the end of the output ofthe first step (extractOpsData ). A sample directory name is/tmp/opsData_4.5

Note : If installOps aborts for any other reason, follow the abort message instructions.

Removing Previous OPS VersionsNote: This step is only necessary if you are upgrading from a previous version of OPS.

It is recommended to delete old OPS versions from the disk when they are no longerneeded.

Note that after removing the ObjectStore server (see Installing the Software,page 3-3), previous OPS versions can no longer run.

• Use the remove command to remove previous versions. For example:

removeOpsVersion /usr/local/ops_4.5

Installing the OPS-360 License FileNote: This procedure is necessary for an upgrade.

This operation should be done using the ‘root’ user.

To install the customer specific license file:

1. Insert the diskette into the diskette drive.

2. Type volcheck

3. Type cp /floppy/floppy0/license.dat /usr/local/ops/etc

4. Type eject floppy (to eject the diskette).

Concluding the Installation

After the OPS software has been successfully installed, you have to remove theCD-ROM and reboot.

1. To remove the CD-ROM, type:

cd

eject cdrom

2. To reboot a SUN workstation, type:

reboot

3. Log back in to automatically start the OPS-360 system:

Login : ops_user

Password : user$ops

Installing the Terminal Software (without the OPS)To install the terminal software only, without installing the OPS software:

• Type the following:

installAuxSw -terminal

cp /cdrom/cdrom0/versions.cf /usr/local/ops/cf

• To verify that the terminal software has been installed correctly, type the following:

checkTerminalSoftware

Storing Maps to Diskette/Hard DiskIn order to create a backup copy of the configuration maps in your library:

1. Press the Config Lib. icon on the OPS Control Panel. A Map Library windowopens, displaying all existing maps.

2. Select the map you wish to store/backup. The selected map appears in reversevideo (White text on Black background)

3. Press the Store button. A secondary Store window opens

In the Store window, do the following:4. In the Format section, select the For Edit option.

5. In the Media section, select the storage medium (Diskette or Hard Disk).Note: The Diskette storage option is available only for local use.

If you selected Hard Disk , do the following:

• In the Filter field, type the directory (full path) into which you wish tostore/backup the map. To save the map to the default path, leave the Filterfield as is.

Note: The default directory is initially displayed. Make sure to put an asterisk (*) at the end ofthe path, to include all the files in the map.

• In the File Target field, at the bottom of the window, enter a name for themap you are about to save (up to 8 characters). To save the map under thesame name, accept the pre-entered name in the File Target field.

• Press the Store button.

If you selected Diskette, do the following:

• If there is no diskette in the disk drive, the OPS will prompt you to insert one.Insert a diskette into the disk drive and click OK in the prompting messagebox.

• In the Filter field, type the directory (full path) into which you wish tostore/backup the map. To save the map to the default path, leave the Filterfield as is.

Note: The field displays initially the current directory. Make sure to put an asterisk (*) at theend of the path, so as to include all the files in the map.

• In the File Target field, at the bottom of the window, enter a name for themap you are about to save (up to 8 characters). Make sure that the string/floppy/floppy0/ appears before the assigned name. To save the mapunder the same name, accept the pre-entered name in the File Target field.

• Press the Store button.

To Eject the diskette from the floppy disk drive, do the following:

• On a Solaris - in the xterm window type: eject

• On a SUN type: EjectPcfs

Loading Maps from Diskette/Hard DiskTo load a backup copy of the configuration maps from the hard disk/diskettes toyour library:

1. Press the Config Lib. icon on the OPS Control Panel. A Map Librarywindow opens, displaying all existing maps.

2. Press the Load button. A secondary Load window opens.

In the Load window, do the following:

3. In the Media section, select the storage medium (Diskette or Hard Disk).Note: The Diskette storage option is available only for local use.

4. In the Files section, select the map you wish to load.Note: If you did not save the map to the default directory, go to the appropriate directory.

5. Make sure that the selected map’s name appears in the Target Map field. Themap will appear in the Map Library under the same name it appeared in theTarget Map field.

6. Make sure that the appropriate path appears in the File field.

7. Press the Load button.

8. The loaded map should appear in the Map Library list.

Shutting Down the OPS and the SUN WorkstationTo shut down the OPS:

1. Click the EXIT button on the OPS Control Panel (for OPS Versions above 2.6).

2. Click Shut Down OPS.

3. To exit, Click Proceed.

To exit the OPS from an Xterm window:

1. Log in as a super user by typing su - (including the hyphen).

2. Press RETURN (for OPS versions below 2.6, type su ).

3. Type opscheck -terminate .

To shut down the SUN Workstation:

1. Open an xterm window

2. Type su - to log in as a super userNote: all commands should be typed in lower case letters, unless indicated otherwise.

3. At the Password prompt, type sys$ops .

4. At the prompt, type poweroff (in Solaris OS only).

5. If you have a SUN OS, type halt . Wait for the OK echo and switch off theSUN Station manually.

Configuration Map Library

IntroductionA Configuration Map is a set of system parameters that determines how a near-endDTX-360 terminal will function facing a far-end terminal.

The Configuration Map Library is a data bank, containing all the named mapsassociated with each DCME site. To access the Configuration Map Library for editing orviewing, click the Config Lib tool icon on the Control Panel.

This will bring you to the Map Library window. This window enables you to store, loadand delete maps.

You can also edit a configuration map by specifying category parameters. Categoriesinclude Map Identification, Mode (DCME and N/W), Trunk Bit Streams and so on.

Note: Other Configuration Map operations, such downloading a configuration map to theBackground, editing background maps and enabling map exchanges between Foreground andBackground are accessible through the Cluster window, see Chapter 5. A Foreground Map is theconfiguration map used by a terminal. A Background Map is an alternate map, kept in the terminal tofacilitate a fast Configuration Map exchange with the Foreground Map.

The Map Library WindowThe Map Library window, shown below, lists all the configuration maps stored in theConfiguration Map Library .

Note: The Map list contains, as a default, two template maps: one for the ADPCM version and one forthe LD-CELP/ADPCM version. It is recommended to select the appropriate type of map beforestarting to create the required maps for a specific application.

The Map Library window contains the following displays and fields:

Map List - The Map List table has three columns:

• Map Name - The name of the selected map. Point the mouse at this field to activateit (an activated field is surrounded by a black frame). Click once inside the frame toenter edit mode (blinking cursor). In this mode you may type in the name of the mapyou wish to open, view or delete. Each row in this column contains the name of alibrary map. The name of each map may appear in different fonts. The fonts indicatethe Lock status of the map:

Regular - Unlocked

Bold - Locked by currently logged in user.

Italic - Locked by other user.

• Valid - A mark in this column, in front of a map’s name, denotes a validated map. Ifa row in this column is blank, the map associated with it is not validated.

• Last Update - The date and time appearing in this column are those of the lastupdate of the map.

The window contains the following buttons:

• Open Map Editor - To open a map for editing or viewing, click the map you wishto edit/view in the Map List display. The selected map is accented by a dark reversevideo background and map’s name appears in the Map Name display window. Clickthe Open button. The Configuration Map Categories window opens, displaying thefirst category: Map Identification. For more information, see the Configuration MapCategories - Common buttons, page 4-7.

• Lock Info - Clicking this button opens a dialog box that displays information aboutthe selected locked map. Select a map from the list before clicking this button.

The following information is displayed in the Lock Info dialog box:

Lock State - Locked or Unlocked

Lock Owner

Date and Time issued

Reason of Change - Indicates the reason the terminal was locked or unlocked.

Click OK to close the dialog box.

• Lock/Unlock/Takeover - This button changes depending upon the Lock status ofthe selected map.

If the map is unlocked, the button reads Lock. Clicking the button will lock the map.

If the map has been locked by you, the button reads Unlock. Clicking the button willunlock the map. (Note that a map may only be unlocked by the user who locked it).

If the map has been locked by another user, the button reads Takeover. Clicking thebutton will transfer the lock from the original user to the operator or administratorwho has taken it over. (Note that only administrators and operators may take over amap).

Maps must be locked or taken over in order to perform the following operations:

Delete - To delete a map

Edit/Save - To edit and save a map

Load - To load a map from a CMIF file to the Configuration Map Library. Saving aloaded map under the name of an existing in the Configuration Map Library maycause problems if other users are using this map. It is therefore necessary to lock amap before loading it to the Configuration Map Library.

Once a map is locked, it cannot be changed or saved unless the lock is “taken over”by an administrator or operator. However, locked maps may be saved to another fileby ordinary users.

Note: The lock option is useful if multiple users exist at a terminal.

Note: administrators Only and operators may lock a map.

Delete - To delete an existing library map, click the map you wish to delete in theMap List display. The map’s name appears in the Map Name field.

When you click the Delete button, a confirmation window is displayed with thequestion: Do you really want to delete (map_name) map?

Click Yes to delete the map.

Click No to abort the delete operation.

• Print - To print a configuration map file.

When you click the Print button, a Print dialog box opens.

The Print dialog box contains the following fields and displays:

Map Categories - Select a map category by clicking the box next to the desired mapcategory (see 4-12).

Print Mode - Choose between Compressed or Normal.

Default Printer Type - Choose either Line Printer or Postscript Printer.

Print to Postscript File - Choose this option to print the map to a postscript file.The location of the file is shown below. In the File Name field, enter a name for thepostscript file.

Click Print to print the file.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

• Load - To load a configuration map (file) from a magnetic storage media into theOPS-360 database. This may be necessary for transferring maps from one OPS-360system to another.

When you click the Load button, a Load dialog box opens. Use it to select the filefor loading and perform the copying procedure from source to target.

The Load dialog box contains the following fields and displays:

Format - The format of the file you wish to load.

For Edit - A more elaborate storage format used for configuration map editing andtransfer. Select this option if you want to edit the configuration map prior totransferring.

For Exchange - A less elaborate storage format, used primarily for configurationmaps storage and transfer procedures. Select this option if you want to transfer thefile without editing it in the process.

Filter - Used to search and select the file required for loading. After specifying thepath and the name of the required file (including wild cards for a wide search), clickthe Filter button or the Enter key.

Directories - List of directories to which maps may be loaded.

Files - List of maps in each selected directory.

Source File - Type the exact path and file name into which the selected file will beloaded.

Target Map - Type the name of the map as it will appear in the Configuration MapLibrary.

Load - To load the selected file into the Configuration Map Library.

Filter - To select the file(s) indicated in the Filter field. This button performs thesame function as the Enter key for selecting the files required for storage.

Cancel - To close the Load dialog box without performing a File Store operation andreturn to the Open Map window.

Note: For an explanation of the buttons in this window, see The Configuration Map Categorieswindow, page 4-7.

• Store - To store a configuration map (file) from the database to another location(such as a diskette). This may be necessary for transferring maps from one OPS-360system to another.

When you click the Store button, a Store dialog box opens. Use it to select the storefiles (configuration maps) for storage and perform the copying procedure from thedata base onto other storage media.

The Store dialog box contains the following fields and displays:

Editing a Configuration MapYou can edit a configuration map by selecting a map and clicking the Open Map Editorbutton in the Map Library window. A window, is displayed with the configuration mapcategories. If you click a category, a screen is displayed in which you can enter therequired parameter details. The first Library Map Category screen to open is MapIdentification.

The Configuration Map Categories WindowThe Configuration Map Categories window, shown below, enables you to editconfiguration map categories.

The window is divided into the following sections:

Categories - This display, on the left-hand side of the window, contains a list of all theConfiguration Map Categories. To select a category, click on it. The selected categoryscreen is displayed and the selected category name is marked rectangle with a gray

The Configuration Map Categories are color-coded:

White - Editable field/cell.

Grayed-out - For information only.

Blue - Read-only (in table cells).

Category Window - Each Category screen has a different window.

Note: The Category screens are described in detail in the help windows associated with eachcategory screen.

Display area - Displays the configuration map category screen.

Buttons area - A common area of displays and buttons, identical in all the screens. Thecommon buttons area include the following buttons and displays:

• Validate - To perform validation of the entire Configuration Map .

If the validation process is successful, the Validate button is grayed-out.

If the validation process fails, a popup window opens, containing messages about thecauses of the failure (conflicting or faulty information).

• Save - To save the changes from the working copy to the Configuration Map .

If the operation is successful, the yellow modified display window is closed and theSave button is grayed-out.

If the operation fails, a popup window opens, containing clarifying messages.

• Save As - To save the Configuration Map under a different name, in order to createanother Configuration Map .

• Print - To print the current configuration map category screen.

• Apply Changes - Enables the following functions:

Saves the screen’s parameters to a working copy of the configuration map.

Performs a preliminary validation of parameters, at the screen level, to ensure thatparameters are acceptable.

This button is grayed-out until at least one parameter has been changed in theCategory window.

• Revert - To return to the latest version of the category’s working copy. This versioncontains only changes for which an Apply Changes procedure was performedsuccessfully.

• Set Default Values - To set the page’s parameters to their default values.

• Exit - To exit the Configuration Map Categories window. The window closes andMap Library window is displayed.

If the operation is successful, the Apply Changes and Revert buttons are grayed-out,a yellow Modified display box opens and the Validate, Save and Save As buttonsare activated.

If the operation fails, an error window opens with messages aimed at helping you toidentify the problem.

How to Edit ParametersYou can edit a category by clicking it in the Categories list on the left. Data relevant tothat category is displayed on the right side of the window.

The section below describes how to edit a table cell or multiple table cells. Many of thecatalog windows contain such tables.

Editing a Table Cell

To edit a table’s cell, perform the following steps:

1. Make sure that the cell is editable, meaning that it is white. If it is gray, you cannot edit it.

2. Click on the cell once. The selected cell turns black; the selected data is displayedin reverse video.

3. Click the Edit button below the table. A secondary window with either a pull-down menu display field or a selection of clickable options and several buttonsopens up.

4. To edit the pull-down menu display, do one of the following:

a) If the window contains a pull-down menu, click the button on the right ofthe display field. A pull-down menu opens, displaying the available options.Click the appropriate option. The pull-down menu closes and the fielddisplays the selected value.

b) If the window contains selectable options, click the required option. Thebutton to the left of the selected option appears pressed.

5. Click the OK button to close the pull-down menu and exit editing mode aftersaving the changes. The selected option appears in the selected cell.

Click Cancel to close the pull-down menu and exit editing mode without anychanges.

Editing Multiple Table Cells

To edit Multiple TC Cells, perform the following steps:

1. Select the first cell you wish to modify or assign a value to.

2. Set the required value for the first cell (see Editing a Table Cell, on page 4-10)

3. Point the mouse at the edited column; click and keep the button pressed. Drag themouse downward across the cells you wish to assign the value to. Each selectedcell is displayed in reverse video (dark).Note : If the selected range of cells extends beyond the limits of the displayed window, scrollthe window up and/or down, using the scrolling arrows on the side of the display window.Press down and hold the keyboard’s Shift button. Resume the selection (marking) processas explained above.

4. After marking all the cells you wish to edit, click the Fill Down button below thetable. A fill down window opens, containing the rows From and To, the editedcolumns name and a Step field.

The Step fields, in all the Fill Down windows except in the case of theDestination column are used to enter the required step (interval).

Use the Up/Down arrows of the Step field, or the cursor and keyboard, toenter the required Step interval for the selected cells.

5. Click OK to affect the selected changes. The Fill Down window closes and thechanged values are displayed in the selected table cells.

Click the Cancel button on the Fill Down window to stop the editing of theselected cells.

Modes (DCME and N/W)

The Modes (DCME and N/W) screen allows the user to determine the system’soperating modes.

A pull-down menu which allows the user to select the appropriate system modes:

• IESS-501 - In this mode, the system complies with ITU’s G.763 and G.766Recommendations.

• Enhanced - In this mode, the system is enhanced with an additional LD-CELP, 16Kbit/s compression ratio. The LD-CELP algorithm complies with ITU G.728recommendation.

Network Operational Mode

A pull-down menu which allows the user to select the system’s appropriate operationalmodes:

Note: A Bearer Channel is a unidirectional, digital, transmission path from the transmit unit ofone DCME to the receive unit of another, associated DCME. The BC is used to carryconcentrated traffic between two DCMEs.

• Point to Point: This is a single destination mode.

• Multi Clique: In this mode, one terminal can be connected with up to two(2) distantADPCM terminals (4 LD-CELP terminals), sharing the same bearers, but usingseparate bearer channels for each destination (two cliques for ADPCM, 4 for LD-CELP).

• Multi Destination: In this mode, one terminal can be connected with up to four (4)distant terminals, using the same bearer and sharing Bearer Channels.

• Mixed MC & MD: Includes two cliques - one for a single destination an the otherfor up to three destinations.

A Validated configuration map is a map containing only acceptable parameters.

A grayed-out button or field is temporarily disabled or uneditable. When required forcertain functions and under certain conditions, and when a button/field is required toperform certain functions, the grayed-out button or field becomes active. This meansthat it may be clicked or edited.

Click the required operational mode. The button changes state to an In position andthe pull-down menu closes down, displaying the latest selection.

DCME Mode

To select a DCME Mode, click the pull-down menu once to open it up. Click on therequired DCME Mode. The button changes state to an In position and the pull-downmenu closes down, displaying the latest selection.

Note : In the Pulsar Ver. 3.0, only the Point-to-Point operational mode is implemented in theEnhanced system mode.

If the selected Network Operational mode is either Multi Clique or Mixed MC &MD , the DCME Modes table displays two cliques. The user should set the requiredparameters in both cliques.

IESS-501 System Mode

The parameters (columns) available in the IESS-501 DCME Mode table are:

• Clique - The number of available cliques – 2 cliques for IESS-501

4 cliques for enhanced

• In Config - A clique may be either IN or OUT of configuration.

If the clique is IN configuration, a is displayed in form of its number in the InConfig column.

If the clique is OUT of Configuration, its In Config column is blank (empty).

To change the configuration, see page 4-10.

IESS-501 mode can be either Intelsat Rev. 2 or Intelsat Rev. 3.

Intelsat Rev. 2:

This is a mode that includes speech and voice band data, and does not include faxdemodulation. Rev. 2 allows operation in Multi-Clique operation mode.

Select the cell as described in Editing a Table Cell, on page 4-10.

If you select Intelsat Rev. 2 mode, the following columns are set to non-editable,read-only mode with the following parameters:

16 kb/sec - Disable

DLC mode - Global DLC

Disconn idle call mess - Disable

Fax modulation - Disable

Intelsat Rev. 3

This is a mode that includes speech, voice band data, and fax demodulation. Multi-Destination Operational Mode is also available.

In this mode, all cells in the system mode table are editable. The cells are:

• 16 Kb/sec ADPCM overload - Enable this option to allow the overload channel togo down to two (2) bits per sample under traffic overload conditions.

• DLC (Dynamic Load Control) - Enable this option to select between selective andglobal DLC.

• Global - In this state, the DLC is enabled/disabled for all destinations.

• Selective - In this state, the DLC signal is sent only to the destination that isexperiencing overload conditions.

• Disconnect Idle Call Mess. - Enable this option to enable disconnection of IT(Intermediate Trunk) to BC (Bearer Channel) routing after 1 minute.

• Fax Modulation - Enable this option to enable fax Demodulation/Remodulationcompression process.

• Channel Check Procedure - The channel check procedure is an internal end-to-endtest of the system.

To change the setting of the Channel Check Procedure cell, select the cell asdescribed in Editing a Table Cell, on page 4-10.

Change the setting to either Enable or Disable:

Enable - If this field is enabled.

Disable - If this field is disabled.

Enhanced System Mode

In Enhance System Mode, you may choose to add:• LRE Mode - In Enhanced System Mode, the LRE Mode cell may be set to either

ADPCM or LD-CELP options.

To change the setting of the LRE Mode cell, select the cell as described in Editing aTable Cell, on page 4-10.

In LD-CELP mode, the system receives additional 16 kbit/s compression. In thismode, the terminal may communicate only with another terminal in enhanced mode.

In ADPCM mode, the terminal may communicate with other non-enhancedterminals.

Attention: After you have completed configuring a Category Screen, click Apply Changes, to updatechanges to the Configuration Map. For an explanation of the buttons in this window, see TheConfiguration Map Categories window, page 4-7.

• Voice Encoding Rate: This option allows you to choose the voice encoding rate forthe selected clique. To change the setting of this cell, select the cell as described inEditing a Table Cell, on page 4-10. Change the setting to either Dynamic or 16Kb/sec.

• Dynamic - Enabling this option allows the voice encoding rate to be changedaccording to the system load. The Variable Bit Rate (VBR) process is enabled. Theencoding rate changes to one of the following: 16, 12.8 or 9.6 Kb/sec.

• 16 Kb/sec - The voice encoding rate is fixed at 16 Kb/sec (ABS=2). VBR process isdisabled.

Trunk Bit Streams

The Trunk Bit Stream category screen, shown below, is used to set up the parametersof the incoming signal from the local exchange to the terminal.

Click Trunk Bit Streams in the categories list to access the following screen:

The Trunk Bit Stream category screen contains the following tables, fields anddisplays:

• CRC-4: A transmission error check option. It provides the data from which the trunkerror performance report is generated.

• Trunk Side Interface: 2.048 Mbit/s (2Mbs), and1.544 Mbit/s (1.5Mbs). Each ofthese options has a configuration table that is displayed upon selection of aninterface.

Note: Before starting work on the Trunk Bit Stream Table , click the appropriate value in theTrunk Side Interface display (1.5 Mbs or 2Mbs ). The system’s default values are: 2Mbs and75Ω. If you selected the 2Mbs option, proceed to select the appropriate impedance (75Ω or120Ω)

• Impedance: Select the appropriate impedance for the terminal.

Click the button on the right of the impedance field. A pull-down menu opens,displaying the available options. Click the appropriate option. The pull-down menucloses and the field displays the selected value.

Note : Make sure that your selection matches the jumper settings on the terminal’s or (for stand-alone terminal) board(s).

• Trunk Bit Stream Table - The cells of Trunk Bit Stream tables are color-coded:

White - Editable data

Blue - Read-only data

Trunk Bit Stream Table - 2Mbs

The Trunk Bit Stream Table for 2MB, shown on the previous page, is displayed whenyou specify 2MB in the Trunk Side Interface parameter. You can edit cells or multiplecells in the table by following the procedures described on page 4-10.

The 2Mbs Trunk Bit Stream Table contains the following columns:

• Trunk # - This is the trunks’ serial number, from 1 to 12.

• In Config - If the cell is empty, the trunk is Out of Configuration . All the othercells in this row will be empty and blue (read only).

If the cell is marked by a , the trunk is In Configuration. The other cells in therow are white and contain editable data.

To change the configuration, refer to page 4-10.

• CRC-4 - This is a transmission error check option. It provides the data from whichthe trunk error performance report is generated. The configuration option available inthis cell is Disable. When the Trunk is In Config, the CRC-4 is editable. Otherwise,it is empty and blue (Read-only).

• Modified Alignment - The configuration option available in this cell is Disable.

• E-bit Indicator - The E (Error) bit indicator enables the near end to report theportion of errors that was detected at the far end. The configuration options availablein this cell are Enable andis Disable.

To edit a cell for the CRC-4, Modified Alignment and E-bit Indicator parameters,perform the following steps:

1. Select the cell, as described in Editing a Table Cell, page 4-10.

2. Click the Disable or Enable buttons in the dialog box.

3. Click the OK button. If the operation is successful, the selected option appears inthe selected cell.

If this cell is set to Disable, the cells to its right (Modified Alignment and E-BitIndicator) are blue (Read-only).

Trunk Bit Stream Table - 1.5Mbs

Pools and Destinations

The Pools and Destinations category screen allows the operator to determine the exactsize and configurations of the pool(s) allocated for each destination. You can edit cells ormultiple cells in the table by following the procedures described on page 4-10.

Click Pools and Destinations in the categories list to access the following screen:

It contains the following tables, fields and displays:

• Network Operational Mode: The operational mode assigned to the system in theModes (DCME and N/W) category screen of the configuration map editor.

• Below the Network Operational Mode appears a graphic representation of thesystem’s Transmit and Receive channels.

The transmit-side (Tx) and each destination (Rx) are represented by a channel ruler.The Upper half of each ruler provides a indication of channels, Time Slots (31 for 2Mbit/s and 24 for 1.5 Mbit/s). The lower half of the ruler is divided into BearerChannel segments according to the following division:

For 2 Mbit/s traffic - 62 BCs for ADPCM and 126 BC for LD-CELP.

For 1.5 Mbit/s traffic - 68 BCs for ADPCM and 96 for the LD-CELP.

Note : including a Control Channel (CC) at the extreme left-hand side of the ruler.

The exact size of each pool is indicated by a movable slide rule above each ruler. Theleft-hand marker of each slid rule, denotes the lower limit of the pool; the right-hand marker of each slide rule denotes the upper limit of the pool. To change the sizeof a pool, click on the pool marker you want to move. The marker turns white. Movethe mouse along the ruler in the desired direction and click again to stop.

To locate a specific bearer channel, point the cursor at it. A floating display widowappears below the cursor’s arrow, showing the number of the channel pointed at.

To view/edit a channel or several channels in a certain pool, point at the channel andclick once. A Pool table opens, containing editable channel-related information.

Note : A Pool table will not be displayed if the cursor points to a channel that is not part of a pool,while attempting to activate a table.

Channel Configuration

This section contains the Set BC Configuration button and a Destination table.

• Set BC Configuration - Click the Set BC Configuration button to view/edit thePool Table. See page 4-31.

The default Pool table is Tx (Low).

You can also view/edit the Pool tables by clicking once the BC part (lower half) ofany Channel Ruler, to display the Pool table for that ruler.

• Color Coded Indicators - These indicators for Bearer Channels appear to the rightof the Set BC Configuration button.

Status changes are performed in the Pool table and the resulting status appears in theappropriate location and color on the Channel Ruler display.

Destination Table

The Destination table contains the following columns:

• Dest # - The number assigned to destination (1-4).

• Rx Bearer - The number of the Receive Bearer (1-4)

• Destination Name - A user-determined name (that is, usually, the full name of thedestination).

A secondary window with an editable Destination Name display field opens. To editthis, point the cursor at the field. An editing cursor appears in the display and itbecomes active. Use the keyboard to edit the name.

Click OK or press <ENTER> to set the new name. The secondary window closesand the new name appears in reverse video in the edited Channel Configurationtable.

• Abbreviated Name: A user-determined abbreviation of the destination name.

To edit an Abbreviation Name cell, follow the steps described in Editing a TableCell, on page 4-10.

A secondary window with an editable Abbreviated Name display field opens. Toedit this field, point the cursor at the field. An editing cursor appears in the displayand it becomes active. Use the keyboard to edit the name.

Click OK or Press CR to set the new name. The secondary window closes and thenew name appears in reverse video in the edited Channel Configuration table.

• Tx Pool: The Tx Pool for which a specific destination is associated with.

To edit a Tx Pool cell, follow the steps described in Editing a Table Cell, on page4-10.

• FE Dest: The far-end destination(s) connected to the near-end terminal.

Attention: After you have completed configuring a Category screen, click Apply Changes , to applychanges to the Configuration Map .

Pool Table Window

The Pool Table window is displayed by pressing the Set BC Configuration button inthe Channel Configuration section. This window, shown below, displays all BearerChannel assignments. You can edit cells or multiple cells in the table by following theprocedures described on page 4-10.

The Pool Table window contains the following fields and table:

• Pool: Click this button to open a pull-down menu containing the system’s availablepools. To view/edit a certain pool, click on the pool menu. The pull-down menuopens, displaying a list of available pools. Select the pool you wish to view and clickon it. The pull-down menu closes and the selected pool is displayed on the PoolTable window.

• Pool Boundaries: This is an editable display field at the top of the Pool TableWindow - a numeric indication of the displayed pool’s size.

To edit the pool size using a display window, point at the display window and clickonce. An editing cursor appears in the window. Use the keyboard to edit the poolsize.

Click CR to set the new values. The slide-rule changes to reflect set values.

Pool Table

The Pool table contains the following columns:

• BC # -An uneditable listing of Bearer Channels.

• Assignment - This column displays assigned BCs. Use the Configuration cell to editor configure a cell..

Configuration

This is a list indicating which of the Bearer Channels are in or out of configuration forthe Tx and Rx pools, as well as the types of unmapped preassigned BCs in Rx pools.

To close the Pool Table window, click the Done button at the bottom of the display.

The Trunk Channel Mapping category screen allows the operator to map, whenneeded, each individual time slot to the Intermediate Trunk (IT) . You can edit cells ormultiple cells in the table by following the procedures described on page 4-10.

The columns of the Trunk Channel Mapping table are:

• BS, TS (Bit Stream Time Slot) - This is an uneditable list of all available BitStreams and their Time Slots.

Note: TS16 is not listed in this table.

• TC (Trunk Channel) - This is a table of all available Trunk Channels to be mappedinto ITs (Intermediate Channels).

• In Config - If the cell is empty, the Trunk Channel is Out of Configuration . Allthe other cells in this row will be empty and blue (read only).

• IT (Intermediate Trunk) - This is a channel mapping method that associates eachTrunk Channel used within the DCME for facilitating Trunk Channelconnectivity to the proper destination.

To edit IT cells, perform the following steps:

1. Select the cell as described in Editing a Table Cell, on page 4-10. A secondarywindow, with an editable IT field, opens.

2. To edit the IT field, point the cursor at it. An editing cursor appears in the field atit becomes active.

3. Use the keyboard to erase (backspace) and retype the IT number that is pairedwith the corresponding TC.

4. Click OK or press CR to set the new value. The secondary window closes and anew name appears in reverse video in the edited IT table.Important: To edit more than one cell at a time in sequence, refer to Editing Multiple Cells.

• Remote IT - The remote DCME IT designation that corresponds to the local ITdesignation. It is edited exactly like the IT cells.

• Destination - This is the destination number as defined by the Near End user.

• Assignment - This cell is used to assign one of the following options to the TimeSlot: Out of Configuration, Dynamic, ADPCM, Preassigned 64Kb/s, Preassigned40Kb/s, Preassigned 32Kb/s, Preassigned 24Kb/s, Preassigned 16Kb/s.

• LD-CELP - Preassigned 64Kb/s, Preassigned 40Kb/s, Preassigned 16Kb/s,Preassigned 12.8Kb/s, Preassigned 9.6Kb/s. The default assignment is Dynamic.

• Tx BC (Transmit Bearer Channel) - The Tx BC denotes the size of the Transmitbearer. This cell is editable only when the assignment is set to other than Dynamic.Select a value:

For IESS-501: between 1-61 for E-1 or between 1-47 for T1.

For Enhanced Mode: between 1-122 for E-1 or between 1-94 for T1.

System Clocks

The System Clock Configuration Map Category allows the operator to select thevarious system clocks and their reserve, stand-by clocks.

Click System Clocks in the Category list to access the following screen:

The available clocks are:

• Tx (Transmit) Main and Tx Reserve

• TrO (Trunk Output) Main and TrO Reserve

• Rx (Receive) and Rx Reserve

The source of each of the Transmit clocks can be Trunks (1-12), Bearers (1-4), internaland external clocks.

The source of the Receive and Receive Reserve clocks can be one of four (4) bearers,internal or external clocks.

• Number of Fax Demodulation (transmission) Cards: A Fax Demodulation cardsupports 90 calls up to 9.6 Kbit/s, or 45 calls at 14.4 Kbit/s. The system comprises1 card.

• Redundancy Switching: Two optional cards provide redundancy for the system’scards.

• First Redundancy Card: The first redundancy card (R- ) can provide exclusiveredundancy or redundancy for both bearer or trunk.

To select the redundancy option for this card, click the button. A pull-down menuopens.

Click the required redundancy level. The pull-down menu closes and the selectedlevel appears in the table cell.

• Second Redundancy Card: The Second Redundancy Card can only be selected toprovide Bearer redundancy. Otherwise, the card is Out of Configuration.

To select the redundancy option for this card, click the button. A pull-down menuopens.

Click the required redundancy level. The pull-down menu closes and the selectedlevel appears in the table cell.

• Power Supply Redundancy: The power supply shelf contains six Power SupplyUnits.

Click the button to the left of this option to enable Power Supply Redundancy, inthe event of a power supply unit failure.

Note : This option is available for configurations of up to 3 terminals for the old power supply.

For the new power supply, this option is available for all DTX’s.

Signaling Interface

The Signaling Interface category screen is used to set parameters regulating signalingprotocols. You can edit the cells in the table by following the procedures described onpage 4-10.

Click Signaling Interface in the Categories list to display the following screen:

• Out of Band Types - Choose from among 4 methods on 16 time slots. Only oneOut of Band (OOB) signaling method may be selected for a terminal.

Click the button on the right for a drop-down list of Out of Band Types. To choosea type, click it.

• No. of DCME frames between signaling messages - The number of framesbetween signaling messages is set to 6 when OOB signaling is in R2D or R1 mode.

The following methods are available:

R2D - Signaling messages are sent through the control channel (6 PCMframes on LDCELP terminals, 8 on ADPCM terminals).

Multiplexed 1:1 - Every configured trunk TS#16 is transferred to a pre-assigned 64 Kbit/sec bearer time slot.

Multiplexed 2:1 - Every configured trunk TS#16 is transferred to a pre-assigned 32 Kbit/sec bearer time slot.

Multiplexed 4:1 - Every configured trunk TS#16 is transferred to a pre-assigned 16 Kbit/sec channel on the bearer.

• Trunk # - The signaling protocol which is determined for each trunk independently.

• Robbed Bit Signaling - A signaling method in which bits are “stolen” from traffic inorder to transfer data. This option is available only in T1 mode.

• Idle Code abcd - A signaling code for non-signaling periods. The exact code isdetermined according to the switch’s requirements.

• Type - Use this cell to define T.S16 usage: Q50 - DLC and Clear Channel SeizureRelease.

Note : If Q.50 type is selected, the Q.50 and Simplified Q.50 DLC cells are editable.

Q.50 - Select the protocol type If Q.50 is selected. The available types are:

2A - Ericson AXE-10

2B - Alcatel System 12, Siemens EWSD

Simplified Q.50 - DLC onlyNote : If Simplified Q.50 option is selected, the Simplified Q.50 DLC cell is editable.

Simplified Q.50 DLC - The following options are available: DLC per Time slot orDLC per Bit Stream - check if connected to DLC destination selective.

DLC off (per T.S) - If DLC per T.S is selected, coordinate with switchadministrators on the exact Switch DLC code recognition.

DLC on - see above.Note : If the DLC per T.S. option is selected, the DLC off/on (per TS) is editable.

CCS (on TS16) - The Common Channel Signaling (CCS) is used to transfer T.S.16on a bearer to the far-end. To allocate the required channels for this purpose, selectCCS in the Type column. Select the cell as described in Editing a Table Cell, on page4-10.

When the Type column for a specific trunk # displays CCS, the correspondingCCS TX BC, CCS RX BC and CCS Dest# columns are white (editable).

To allocate TX , BX or Dest# channels for CCS, click once on the required celland click the Edit button.

In the secondary window that opens, type the required Bearer Channel and clickOK or Cancel.

Note : Before allocating CCS channels, make sure the channels are free and available. AllTX and RX bearer channels appear in the BC Configuration table, accessed through thePools and Destination Category screen, Channel Configuration section, Set BCConfiguration button.

CCS bearer channel require two nibbles and must start on an even slot.

Attention: After you have completed configuring a Category screen, click Apply Changes , to updatechanges to the Configuration Map.

The Fax Modulation table contains Fax modulation information about each of the site’scliques. You can edit the cells in the table by following the procedures described on page4-10.

• Fax Backward Channel via VBD - Acknowledgments from the called fax machineto the calling machine are transferred by a DCME system through a VBD channel(40 Kb/s).

• Fax Selective Deactivation TCs Table- This table contains all the TC(s) that theoperator chooses to deactivate.

BS, TS and TC - These columns contain all the Bitstreams, Timeslots and theirassociated Trunk Channels in the system, displayed sequentially.

Deactivated TC -A list of trunk channels on which the fax option is always disabled.

• NSS-Code FAX Machines Not to be Demodulated Table - The details of Faxmachines that the DTX-360 can not demodulate. The calls originating from thesemachines are transmitted as Voice Band Data (VBD) traffic.

To add a machine to the table, double-click an empty cell from the ManufacturerCode column. A secondary window opens, containing an editable field. Point themouse at this window. A cursor appears in the editable field and the field issurrounded by a black frame. Type in the FAX code (0-ff).

Note: See FAX Code Table below.

Click OK to confirm the selection. The secondary window closes and the codeappears in the selected table’s cell.

Click Cancel to cancel the selection and return to table. The secondary windowcloses.

To add a row to the table, click a table’s cell (it turns black).

Click the Add button.

To Remove a Fax code or a row from the table, click the cell to be removed (it turnsblack).

Click the Remove button.

Click Apply Changes, to update changes to this category screen.

Through the Alarm Handling Category Screen, the operator sets up alarm parameters,activates or deactivates alarms and determines the alarm severity levels for various typesof trunk alarms.

• Alarm Extension - In this display, the operator determines the extent of alarmcoverage. Click one of the following two options:

• Trunk AIS Inject Upon Critical - This option is used to determine whether toinject an Alarm Indication Signal (AIS) .

• Remote Low BER Indication Via Bit 4, TS0 - Click the button to the left of thisoption to enable the near-end terminal to monitor the BER performance of the link asreceived by the far-end terminal.

• Bearer Backward Alarm - A far-end DCME indicates loss of DCME framealignment (DFA) by activating this alarm indication in the Control Channel DCMEframe no. 54; Represents condition of up to 4 Rx bearers.

Contents: 0 = Normal condition.

1 = Alarm condition.

• Alarm Delay in Seconds - Use this display to determine delay setting for Trunksand Bearers.

The Alarm Delay for a trunk is usually longer then the Alarm Delay for a bearer,because bearer’s performance is critical and affects all the trunks (this option iscurrently inactive).

• Trunk - Click the Up/Down scroll pointers to select the available delay (from 0.0 to3.0 seconds, in 0.1 second intervals).

• Bearer - Click the Up/Down scroll pointers to select the available delay (from 0.0 to3.0 seconds, in 0.1 second intervals).

• T1 Carrier Set/Reset Delay in Seconds - Click the Up/Down scroll pointers to Setthe available delay (from 0.0 to 3.0 seconds, in 0.1 second intervals). Repeat thesame procedure to determine the Reset Delay (0-20 seconds).

The Alarm Classification Table displays a list of alarms in the Alarms column and theseverity levels assigned them in the Classification column.

• Alarms Severity Levels are displayed in color and abbreviations. The availableoptions are:

DMA - Deferred Maintenance Alarm (Yellow) - This alarm requires attention atthe earliest convenient time.

SA - Service Alarm (Blue). This alarm is used to attract the operator’s attention to aproblem.

• CRC MFR on Primary Group - This is an Rx Error alarm indication from theswitch, on 2mbit/s bit stream.

• CC AIS Failure - This is a state marked by a word of 1s (Alarm Indication Signal)sent in the control channel of the BC.

• CC LBER - An alarm will be activated if the Low Bit Error Rate in the ControlChannel is smaller than 10E-3 and greater than 10E-6.

Built-in Test

Click Built in Test in the Categories list to display the following screen:

The Built-In-Test (BIT) circuits and software are the main tools used by the cards of theDTX-360 for self-regulation and trouble-shooting.

The BIT enables automatic identification of any failed card in the system.

The BIT outputs are used to trigger actions such as management reports, redundancyswitching, system reset, maintenance, alarms etc.

BIT testing is provided for Transmit (Tx) cards, Receive (Rx) cards, Interface (IF) cardsand Signal Analysis (SA) cards.

Note : For detailed BIT information, consult the Maintenance Manual.

The BITs in all the system’s cards are enabled by default.

Note: Before editing any BIT field, click the Built in Test button on the top left corner of the categoryscreen. When the button is in the IN position, all the BIT status cells are white and editable; except forunavailable cards in certain modes. For example, in Enhanced Mode, the ADPCM card is non-editable.

• AIS Injection Upon Critical Alarm - Enabling this feature causes AIS (AlarmIndication Signal, or “all ones”) injection to all output BS’s, trunks and bearers in theevent of a critical state at the terminal. If Alarm Extension per BS is selected,AIS/2M will be injected.

Click the radio button to enable AIS Injection Upon Critical Alarm .

Note: This option is displayed only when the Built in Test process is enabled.

To change a card’s BIT status, Select a cell to the right of the card’s name, as describedin Editing a Table Cell, on page 4-10.

A secondary window opens, containing the options Enable and Disable.

Click the required option. The button of a selected option is in the IN position.

Click OK to confirm the selection. The secondary window closes and the selected optionappears in the selected table’s cell.

Click Cancel to cancel the selection and return to the table. The secondary windowcloses.

Click Apply Changes, to apply changes to category screen.

Activity Management

The Activity Management category screen is used to set and modify speech detectionmodes and levels and noise injection modes and levels. according to CCITT G.763.

Click Activities Management in the Categories list to display the following screen:

The Activity Management category screen contains the following displays, fields andtables:

• Speech Detector Type (for future Implementation) - Click the appropriate buttonto select Adaptive (variable) or Fixed speech detection policy (the option is currentlyinactive).

Threshold [dBm]. Click the button. A pull-down menu opens. Click the requiredSpeech Detection Threshold Level. The pull-down menu closes and the selectedthreshold appears in the Display window.

• Data Activity Threshold [dBm] - For data traffic, activity detection threshold mustbe set.

Click the button. A pull-down menu opens. Click the required Data DetectionThreshold Level. The pull-down menu closes and the selected threshold appears inthe display window.

• Rx Speech Detector Threshold [dBm] (For future implementation) - Thisthreshold is set to determine enabling and disabling of speech detection adaptationand to suppress echo loopback to transmitting side.

Click the button. A pull-down menu opens. Click the required Rx SpeechDetection Threshold Level (currently set to Disable). The pull-down menu closesand the selected threshold appears in the Display window.

• Rx Noise Injection - This facility is provided to prevent periods of complete silenceon the line.

• Matched (Rx Noise Injection) - Click the button to the left of the word match toenable variable noise injection and matching line noise levels.

• Maximum Noise Limitation [dBm] - If the Match option is selected, a MaximumNoise Limitation Level can be set.

The Dynamic Load Control (DLC) tables in the DLC Configuration Map Categoryallow the operator to determine the system’s overload-handling characteristics. When thetraffic load exceeds set limits, traffic to overloaded trunks is stopped.

DLC Mode

The DLC Mode appearing in this display is determined in the Modes (DCME and N/W)category screen.

• Destination Selective Parameters - The parameter that can be set per destination isthe Allocated Bearer Channels.

• Dst1 - This column contains the number of allocated Bearer Channels.

Voice/VBD DLC Thresholds

In order to avoid rapid DLC on-off oscillation, the operator can set High Load and LowLoad limits. The Voice/VBD DLC Thresholds table contains the following cells:

• Average Bits Per Sample (ABS) - The average number of bits used to sample aVBD call. Available only if the Voice Encoding Rate in the “Modes” category is16Kbs.

• Data Bearer Occupancy (DBO) - Proportional occupance (in percents) of databearer.

• High Load - The measured (ABS) < (ABSth) OR the measured (<DBO>) >(DBOth).

• Low Load - The measured (ABS) > (ABSth) and the measured (<DBO>) <(DBOth).

DLC is activated above the High Load and deactivated below the Low Load.

To change the an ABS or a DBO field, Select a cell, as described in Editing a TableCell, on page 4-10.

This is the interval between each averaging of the number or bits per sample (ABS).

To change the first stage averaging period, select the cell, as described in Editing aTable Cell, on page 4-10.

Click the button. A pull-down menu opens. Click the required Noise Level. Thepull-down menu closes and the selected limit appears in the Display window. ClickOK to confirm the selection. The confirmation window closes and the selectedoption appears in the selected table’s cell.

Miscellaneous

The Miscellaneous Category screen is used to set the system’s Network Managementparameters to No Network.

Click the Miscellaneous button to display the following screen:

The Miscellaneous screen consists of the following fields:

• Network Management Method - For future implementation

• First Data Hangover Value (sec) - This is a timer that measures the length of thefirst inactivity period following a period of data transmission. The default is 10seconds. This is intended to prevent disconnection of modem resources, while dataactivity may still start again.

• Second Data Hangover Value - This is a timer that measures the length of a secondconsecutive inactivity period following data transmission. The default is 100 msec.This is intended to still allow resumption of data transmission without resourceallocation delay.

Click Apply Changes, to update changes to Miscellaneous screen.

Site and Cluster WindowThe OPS-360 Site window, below, is used to monitor and control the clusters at asingle site. The Cluster window, page 5-5, is used to monitor and configure eachterminal in a cluster. This chapter describes these two windows in detail.

Site WindowThe Site window provides monitoring and control capabilities of a locationcontaining one or more clusters.

To open the Site window, click once on the Site icon in the Control Panel. Thefollowing window is displayed:

The Site window displays all the clusters currently connected to the OPS-360system.

Each cluster is represented by a cluster box. The cluster box contains a graphicrepresentation of all the terminals configured in the cluster, including Redundantterminal and Local and Central COMS. Each terminal is assigned a number; theLocal COM in marked by an L; the Central COM is marked by a C.

The background color of each cluster box reflects the highest state of alarm existingin that cluster. In addition, a framed message displays the name of the cluster andanother framed message displays the alarm level (if the cluster is in an alarmsituation). If you click a cluster, a window is displayed with the cluster details. Formore information, see page 5-5.

The Site window also contains the following pull-down menus:

Click OK to add an empty cluster box to the Site window. The only availableinformation about an empty cluster box is its name. To add terminals and COM unitsto this empty cluster, select it and click the Open option in the Cluster pull-downmenu (see page 5-2).

Remove Cluster

Clicking the Remove Cluster option removes a cluster form the Site window.

• If the cluster is empty (contains no terminals or COM units) a confirmationwindow will open with the question:

“Are you sure you want to remove this Cluster?”

Click Yes to remove the cluster from the Site window.

Click Cancel to close the confirmation window and cancel the remove operation.

• If the cluster is not empty (that is, it contains terminals and/or COM units), awarning window will open with the message:

“Remove all components from the cluster before removing the cluster itself.”

You will not be able to remove this cluster from the site until all components areremoved from this cluster.

Edit Info

Clicking the Edit option opens a dialog box in which you can change the clustername.

To change the cluster’s name, place the cursor in the name field and type the newname you want to give the chapter.

Edit Site Info

Clicking the Edit Site Info option opens a dialog box in which you can change thesite name.

To change the site’s name, place the cursor in the name field and type the name thatyou want to give the site.

Several fields within each terminal square display the following about the terminal’sname and code.

• Name

• Code Number

• Status (On/Off-line)

• Change-over status (Manual /Automatic)

• Destinations

• Lock indicator

• Alarm

To select a specific terminal in the Cluster window, click on it once. A thick or blackperimeter frame will mark the selected terminal.

A message box, below the Terminal Status displays, provides additionalinformation, such as Link Down and Out of Configuration .

When there is a map mismatch condition, a Map Mismatch (Background - Bg,Foreground - Fg or both) indication is displayed. An orange indicator is a warning that maps stored in the OPS-360 database are not identical tothe respective maps in the terminal’s flash memory. Mismatches may occur for theFg map, Bg map, or both maps. Mismatches are resolved by loading the requiredmaps to the terminal.

Note: When using the Switch Map option in the Map menu to exchange the Fg map with the Bg map,the Map Mismatch indicator will appear again following the operation. This is resolved byDownloading a library map into the terminal’s Bg map.

Note: To clear the Map mismatch message from a redundant terminal, all 18 maps (two for eachterminal) should be downloaded to the terminal. See “Synchronize Maps ”, page 5-25

When a terminal is Out of Configuration , its color changes to gray.

Note: A burst of events from a specific terminal may fill the input queue in the FM process to capacity.When this occurs, the OPS-360 option displays this terminal with a grid (net) on top of the alarmstatus color. This is called Reduced Monitoring mode.

When a terminal is in Reduced Monitoring mode:

• Request replies are fully processed.

• State change notifications of the terminal are fully processed.

• Statistic reports are fully processed

• No other event reports are processed. Instead, these events are written to anoutside text file and not logged in the event log.

• In the Event Log window, an event appears when the Reduced Monitoringmode starts and when it ends (indicating that you need a signal for the user tolook at the relevant text file).

Incoming trunks are numbered (1-12). All trunks in which alarms have occurred arecolor-coded according to alarm severity configurations. Trunks without alarms aregreen.

Outgoing bitstreams (Tx and Rx bearers) include an indication of the direction of thesignal flow, a clique number, and the incoming bearer number and status.

On-Line Status

This section contains the following fields:

• Change Over Matrix - .Online, Offline, Normal, Manual or Auto.

Built-In Test Details

The Built-In Test Details window, shown below, is opened by pressing the BITDetails button on the Status Report window.

This window contains a graphic representation of the selected terminal. Each card isdisplayed with its name, function, and status (color coded). If the card is functioningproperly, its color indication is green. If the card is malfunctioning (failed BIT), it iscolor coded according to the severity of the alarm generated by the BIT failuer.

Alarms Details

The Alarms Details window, shown below, is opened by pressing the AlarmsDetails button on the Status Report window. This window is constantly updated inreal time.

The report contains the following sections:

• DCME Status - (Online, Offline)

• Alarm Status - (Critical/Deferred, Prompt, Maintenance)

• OPS Link - (Normal, Down, Busy)

• Control Channel Alarms - This section contains a detailed PCM alarm reportfor each Control Channel. The alarm indication contains the specific fault andthe alarm level associated with the reported fault (such as LOS [PMA] - Loss OfSignal, Prompt Maintenance Alarm).

Configuration Details

The Configuration Details window, shown below, is opened by pressing the ConfigDetails button on the Status Report window.

This section contains the following fields:

System Mode - Enhanced, IESS-501, Rev. 2/Rev.3.

Network Mode - Point-to-Point, Multi-Destination, Multi-Clique, Inter-Operation.

Mode - LDCELP or ADPCM

Fax Compression - On or Off.

FEC - On, Off.

Primary Group Rate - Trunk (2Mbit/s, 1.5Mbit/s) Bearer (2Mbit/s, 1.5Mbit/s).

Clock Details

The Clock Details window, shown below, is opened by pressing the Clock Detailsbutton on the Status Report window.

• Clock - Rx, Tx or TRO. In the event of an alarm in one of the main clocks, acolor-coded indicator is displayed to the left of the clock name.

• Main Clocks -A list of the system’s main clocks (Tx, Rx, TRO) as defined inthe Configuration Map editor. In the event of an alarm in one of the main clocks,an indication is displayed in the right hand column, opposite the clock source.

• Reserve Clocks - A list of the system’s reserve clocks as defined in theConfiguration Map editor. In the event of an alarm on one of the reserve clocks,an indication will be displayed in the right hand column, opposite the clocksource.

• Current Clocks - This is a list of the system’s current clocks.

Note: Changes of clock assignments are made through the System Clocks category in theConfiguration Map Editor.

This window contains the following buttons:

Print/Save - To open the Print/Save Report window.Exit - To cancel the report display and close the window.

Refresh

Clicking the Refresh option sends a refresh request to a selected terminal.

If there is communication between the OPS-360 and the selected terminal, therefresh request will result in examining all the terminal’s parameters and refreshingtheir display on the terminal box in the Cluster window.

If there is no communication between the OPS-360 and the selected terminal, theOPS-360 will try to establish communication with the terminal and display itsparameters on the terminal box in the Cluster window.

Exit

Clicking once the Exit option closes the Cluster window.

All other windows that may have been opened during the operator’s work remainopen.

Exit All

Clicking the Exit All option closes the Cluster window and all windows opened bynavigation from the Cluster window.

Lock MenuThe Lock menu allows the operator to lock, unlock and take over a terminal. TheLock menu offers the following options:

Lock

Use the Lock option to lock a terminal. Locking a terminal allows only the operatorwho locked it to perform operations on the locked terminal. Before a terminal canbe locked, it must first be selected on the Cluster window.

Select the Lock option. A dialog box opens, displaying the following information:

Lock State - Locked or Unlocked

Unlocked by/Lock Owner

Date and Time issued

Reason of Change - Enter your reason for locking the terminal.

Click Lock to lock the selected terminal.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Note: The Lock option is useful if multiple users exist at a terminal.

Lock All

Use the Lock All option to lock all unlocked terminals in the cluster; or to take overall locked terminals in the cluster.

Lock Info

Clicking this option opens a window that displays information about all locked terminalsin the cluster. Before clicking this option, select a cluster from the Cluster window.

Date and Time issued

Reason of Change - Indicates the reason the terminal was locked, unlocked or takenover.

Click OK to close the dialog box.

Takeover

If the terminal has been locked by another user, the Takeover option is enabled.Clicking this option will transfer the lock from the original user to the operator oradministrator who has taken it over.

Select the Takeover option. A dialog box opens, displaying the following fields:

Reason of Change - Enter your reason for taking over the terminal.

Click Takeover to take over the selected terminal.

Clicking this option will unlock a locked terminal. Any user may unlock a terminal.

Click Unlock to unlock the selected terminal.

In Configuration

If a selected terminal in a cluster is Out of Configuration, the Terminal Squareappears gray and a message Out of Configuration is displayed.

• Click the In Configuration option to change the terminal’s status to InConfiguration .

• A confirmation window displays the question:

“Are you sure?”

• Click OK to continue.

• Click Cancel to close the confirmation window and cancel the operation.

When the terminal is In Configuration, the Out of Configuration message is notdisplayed and the terminal square alarm color changes from gray to the current alarmstatus of the terminal (Red, Yellow, Blue or Green).

Out of Configuration

If a selected terminal in a cluster is In Configuration:

• Click the Out of Configuration option to change the terminal’s status to Out ofConfiguration .

• A confirmation window is displayed with the question:

• Click OK to change the status of the selected terminal to Out of Configuration.

• Click Cancel to close the confirmation window and cancel the operation.

Change Over

Use the Change Over option to transfer DCME operations from a terminal in thecluster to the cluster’s stand-by terminal.

Note: Make sure that the cluster is equipped with a Stand-by terminal and that the Stand-by terminalis not already being used as the redundant terminal for another terminal in the cluster. If the Stand-by

terminal is already engaged, an terminal status message is displayed on its TerminalSquare.

To perform a terminal change over, the cluster must also be equipped with a COMshelf. If a change over was already performed, a message is displayed onits COM Rectangle. (The number displayed is the number of the terminal replacedby the stand-by terminal.)

If the selected terminal is currently operating and the terminal statusmessage is displayed:

• Click the Change Over option once.

• A confirmation window is displayed with the question:

Are You Sure You Want to Change Over Terminal X?

• Click Yes to perform the change over.

• Click Cancel to close the confirmation window and cancel the operation.

On completion of the operation, an terminal status message is displayedon the Terminal Square of the replaced terminal.

A message is displayed on the COM, where the number displays thenumber of the terminal replaced by the stand-by terminal. The number of thereplaced terminal is also displayed. The stand-by terminal displays the terminal status message.

Change Over Release

Use the Change Over Release option to release the stand-by terminal and return theoffline terminal back into operation in the cluster.

• Clicking Change Over Release

• A confirmation window is displayed with the question:

Are You Sure You Want to Release Change Over for Terminal (*)?

• Click Yes to perform the release.

• Click Cancel button to close the confirmation window and cancel the operation.

On completion of the operation an terminal status message is displayed onthe selected terminal.

The stand-by terminal displays the terminal status message.

QDLI Back To Service

Use the QDLI Back to Service option to activate the terminal’s internal redundancyprocess and bring back to operation the terminal card.

Note: The QDLI-R card is an optional card.

The QDLI Back to Service brings the terminal back to normal operation.

Reset

Use the Reset option only if you want to perform a reset operation on a selectedterminal.

• Click the Reset option to reset the terminal.

• A confirmation window with the question:

Are You Sure?

• Click Cancel to cancel the reset operation.

• Click OK to display an additional confirmation window with the statement:

Confirm Terminal Reset.

• Click the Reset button to initiate a reset of the selected terminal.

• Click the Cancel button to cancel the operation.

Edit Background Map

Clicking this option enables you to edit the background map of the selected terminal.

The first Library Map category – the Map Identification window – opens.

Print Foreground Map

Click this option to open a Print Foreground Map window. From this window, youcan choose those categories of the Foreground map that you want to print.

Print Background Map

Click this option to open a Print Background Map window. From this window,you can choose those categories of the Background map that you want to print.

Download to Background

This option displays a window which lists all the maps stored in the ConfigurationMap Library . To select this option in the Cluster window, select Download toBackground window from the Map menu.

The window contains the following displays and fields:

Map List

A list of all the configuration maps stored in the system’s library. The Map List tablehas three columns:

• Map Name - Each row in this column contains the name of a library map.

• Valid - A mark in this column, in front of a map’s name, denotes a validatedmap. If a row in this column is blank, the map associated with it is not validated.

• Last Update - The date and time appearing in this column are those of the lastupdate of the map.

Map Name

The name of the selected map. Point the mouse on this field to activate it (anactivated field is surrounded by a black frame). Click once inside the frame to enteredit mode (blinking cursor). In this mode you may type in the name of the map youwish to open, view, or delete.

The window contains the following buttons:

Download - To download a map into the background, click the map’s name in theMap Name column. The selected map is accented by a dark reversevideo background and map’s name appears in the Map Name displaywindow. Click the Download button.

A confirmation window opens with the text “Confirm Download.” Thefollowing buttons appear:

OK - To perform downloading to background.

Cancel - To return to Download to Background window.

Before using the Download to Background option in the Map pull-down menu,select a terminal.

Click this pull-down menu option to download a background map from the MapLibrary into the selected terminal.

Click the Download to Background button to open a Download to Backgroundwindow.

Enable Map Switch

Use the Enable Map Switch option only if you want to replace a selected terminal’sForeground map by the terminal’s Background map. The selected terminal must beactive (not a standby terminal).

• Click the Enable Map Change option

• A confirmation window appears, displaying the question:

“Are You Sure?”

Click Cancel to close the confirmation window and cancel the operation.

Click OK to continue.

• An additional confirmation window opens with the statement:

Confirm Map Change

Click Map Switch to switch the maps at the selected terminal.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Synchronize Maps

This table is used to compare and synchronize between the Foreground andBackground maps in both the OPS-360 and the selected terminal. The table isdivided in two parts – one representing the Terminal and the other representing theOPS.

Click the Synchronize Maps option to display a Map Synchronization table with thetitle: “Synchronize Window for Terminal #”

The Terminal side contains the following columns:

• Map ID - The information in this column identifies the map as either aBackground (Bg) or a Foreground (Fg) map.

• Map Name - The name given to the map by its creator or modifier.

• Last Updated - The date and time of the map’s last update.

• # of Changes - The number of times the map was modified (i.e., the map’sversion).

There are two columns between the Terminal and OPS parts of the table. If a mapon the table is mismatched, arrows will appear in these columns. Click an arrow tosynchronize the maps.

• Download - Click the arrow in the Download column to download abackground map to the terminal. This action synchronizes mismatched maps.

• Upload - Click the arrow in the Upload column to upload a map to the OPS.This action synchronizes mismatched maps.

Note: Foreground maps cannot be downloaded to the terminal. To download a foreground map, firstswitch it to the background and then download it.

Note: Redundant terminals list the maps at other terminals as well. These maps may be downloadedto the terminal (but not uploaded to the OPS).

The OPS side contains the following columns:• Map Name - The name given to the map by its creator or modifier.

• Last Updated -The date and time of the map’s last update.

• # of Changes - The number of times the map was modified (i.e., the map’sversion).

Click Done to close the Map Synchronization Table window.

Upload Foreground

• Click the Upload Foreground option to upload a Foreground map from theterminal into the OPS-360.

Add Terminal

Use the Add Terminal window to add a terminal to a cabinet. Before a terminal canbe added to a cabinet, a vacant place must be selected on the Cluster window.

This window contains the following:

• Terminal Number - From the pull-down menu, select an active terminalnumber from the available list. The numbers of terminals that are alreadyinstalled in the cabinet are grayed out.

• Terminal Name - The terminal’s name.

• System Name - The system’s name.

• Protection Mode - From the pull-down menu, select a protection mode for theterminal. The following modes are available: Disabled, Manual and Auto.

• Terminal considered in Cluster Alarm - From the pull-down menu, selectConsidered or Not Considered. Selecting Considered will cause an alarm inthe cluster if the selected terminal is in alarm state.

• Trunk Group Size

Click one of the following options:

1 Shelf Terminal - For a compact terminal.

2 Shelf Terminal - For a full-size terminal.

• LCOM Number - From the pull-down menu, select the No LCOM option or anumber between 1 and 4.

• Output Number - From the pull-down menu, select a number according to theposition of the terminal in the cabinet: 1 for the first (upper) terminal, 2 for thesecond terminal, 3 for the third, and 4 for the fourth terminal.

Note: Optional numbers 3 and 4 exist only in compact terminals.

This window contains the following buttons:

OK - To add the terminal to the cluster. The Add Terminal window closes.

Cancel - To close the Add Cabinet window without performing any setup operation.

Add Central COMNote: A CCOM can be added to a cabinet only if the cluster does not yet contain a CCOM.

Note: All online report windows should be closed and re-opened after adding an LCOM.

Clicking the Add CCOM option in the Setup menu adds a CCOM to the cluster.

A display box is added to the cabinet, on top of the selected cabinet display.

Note: Before a CCOM can be added to a cluster, a cabinet must be selected in the Cluster window.

Click OK to add the LCOM. An LCOM display box is added to the cabinet, on topof the selected cabinet display.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Add Single COMNote: Before an SCOM can be added to a cluster, a cabinet must be selected in the Cluster window.

Note: All online report windows should be closed and re-opened after adding an SCOM.

The SCOM or Single COM is a combination of the Local and Central COMs.

• Click the Add Single COM option to add an SCOM to a cabinet.

• An Add Single window opens, containing the following pull-down menus:

SCOM Number - Always 1.

Supported Terminals - Select the number of terminals supported by the LCOM: 2or 3.

Click OK to add the SCOM. An SCOM display box is added to the cabinet, on topof the selected cabinet display.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

Note: An SCOM can be added to a cabinet only if the cluster does not yet contain a SCOM.

Remove

Before a Terminal/LCOM/CCOM/SCOM can be removed from a cluster, theelement must be selected in the Cluster window.

Add Cabinet

Use the Add Cabinet window to add a cabinet to a cluster. Before a cabinet can beadded to a cluster, a reference terminal must be selected on the Cluster window.

The Add Cabinet window contains the following displays and buttons:

• Cabinet Type - Click one of the following options in this display to determinethe cabinet:

Click Type 1 for a cabinet housing 1-2 terminals (full-size).

Click Type 2 for a cabinet housing 1-4 terminals (compact).

• Position - Click Add to the right to add a cabinet to the right of the selectedposition. Click Add to the left to add a cabinet to the left of the selectedposition.

This window contains the following buttons:

OK - To add a cabinet to the cluster. The Add Cabinet window closes.

Cancel - To cancel the remove operation.

Remove Cabinet

Before a Cabinet can be removed from a cluster, it must be selected in the Clusterwindow. The selected cabinet must be empty (all components have been removedfrom it, using the Remove option in the Setup menu).

• Click the Remove Cabinet option

• A confirmation window appears displaying the question:

Are You Sure You Want To Remove This Cabinet?

Edit Info

The Event Log window provides detailed information of system and user-generatedevents during various periods.

The window contains the following displays and buttons:

Event Table

This table contains the following columns:

• Time - The event’s time in the format HH:MM:SS.

• Source - The exact source of the event (Trunk, Bearer, Terminal).

• Description - Event information such as Loss of Frame (LOF) and a color-coded indication of the severity of the event:

Red - Critical, Prompt

Yellow - Deferred

Blue - Service

Note: Terminal-generated events with “event severity” (for example, any XXX-OFF such as LOS-OFF,AIS-OFF, etc.) are displayed without any color.

Search - Click this button to open the Search sub-window. The following optionsappear in the Search window:

• Previous - Click for a list of events from the previous day

• Today - Click for a list of today’s events

• Next - Click for a list of the next day’s events

Search Sub-window

Use this window to search for specific events. You can search for all of the followingcriteria:

Severity - Choose the desired levels of event severity.

• Critical

• Prompt

• Deferred

• Service

• Cleared

Source - Click for a drop-down list of event sources.

Find Forward - Searches from the beginning of the day onward (00:00). If a particularevent is selected, the search begins from the date and time of that event.

Find Backward - Searches backward from the end of the day (23:59) to the beginning ofthe day. If a particular event is selected, the search begins from date and time of thatevent.

The OPS first searches for events during the current day. If the desired events cannot befound, the OPS automatically searches for these events in the event log from the previousday.

If the events cannot be found, a pop-up message appears; notifying you that there is nomatch for the selected event.

The lower display window contains a list of real-time reports. These reports areissued on demand and reflect the status of the reported subject at the time of therequest.

Note: Available (active) reports are displayed in black. Unavailable reports are displayed in gray.

Type (window section) - Used to determine the period for which a report isrequired.

Note: After selecting a report from the Report Names window, available periods for each selectedreport are active (black), and unavailable periods are displayed in gray.

On Demand - Used to receive a report in Real Time - from the time of the mostrecent periodic refreshment of statistics until the time of request, reflecting the statusof the terminal at the time of the request.

Last - Used to receive a report based on the latest accumulation of data.

From - Used to determine the exact period for which a report is required. If youselect this option, proceed to select the Day and the Time from the appropriate pull-down menus below.

The following buttons appear at the bottom of the Open Report window:

Open Report - To open a status for details report, see page 5-10. The report isdisplayed in reverse video.

Print/Save - To open the Print/Save Report window.

Average no. of Data BC’s - The portion of Data Bearer Channels on the bearer forthe report’s time interval.

Average no. of Bit Banks - The portion of Bit Banks on the bearer for the report’stime interval.

Average no. of Fax banks - The portion of Fax Banks on the bearer for the report’stime interval.

Voice Statistics

Average Bit per Sample (Voice) - An indicator of speech calls quality.

Worst Bit per Sample (Voice) - An indicator of the system’s traffic load for thereport period.

Average no. of overloaded Channels - An indicator of traffic overload duringreport period.

Voice Activity Ratio (%) - The portion of the bearer that is occupied by speechcalls.

Voice Freeze out Factor (%) - The ratio of competitive clip duration to voice spurtduration.

Voice Freeze out Excess (%) - An indicator of the percentage time voice FOF(Freeze out Fraction) exceeding 0.5%, when averaged over a period of 1 minute.

Worst Voice Freeze out (%) - The highest value of FOF.

Data Statistics

Data Activity ratio (%) - The portion of data traffic out of the bearer’s total non-pre-assigned activity.

Data Freeze out (%) - The ratio of the number of non-pre-assigned TCs classified asdata active but not connected to the total number of non-pre-assigned TCs classifiedas data active.

Worst data Freeze out (%) - The highest value of data freeze out.

DLC Statistics for Destination (Name of Destination) - The table displayed belowthis field contains the following rows:

DLC Voice On Ratio (%) - The portion of the DLCs that were initiated by speechcalls.

DLC 64 Kb/s On Ratio (%) - The portion of the DLCs that were initiated by lack ofavailable clear channels.

No. of DLC Operations -The total number of DLC.

The information columns contain the following information:

NE - Near-End

FE - Far-End

Total -Total DLC messages

The last column contains a graphic display of the NE/FE ratio.

A separate table contains the following information:

The number of outgoing and incoming fax calls for the assigned destination.

A display window between the buttons informs the user of the time (in minutes) tothe next report update. When the update time arrives, the user is informed of it bythe message Updating Report. The new report data is then displayed in theappropriate locations.

The Bearer Control Channel Error Performance Report, shown below, containsinformation about the bearer control channel. To open this report, select it and clickopen report in the Open Report window.

The Report window contains following display and fields:

Statistic Interval - Informs the user of the pre-determined interval that passesbetween updates of the requested report.

The report’s table contains the following information about the assigned destination(s):

Average BER - The ratio of the number of bit errors identified in the control channelto the total number of bits received in the control channel.

BER Excess (%) - The percentage of time during which the average BER exceeds10E-3.

Unavailable Sec (%) - The period of unavailable time beginning when the BER persecond is worst than 10E-3 for a period of 10 consecutive seconds. (See G.821).

Severely Errored Sec (%) - The percentage of available seconds with an error ratebigger than 10E-3. Available is defined according to ITU G.821.

DCME Frame Alarm Sec - The number of seconds during which a DCME framealarm was activated.

Beneath the Standard field, a button appears. This button allows you to choose eitherNear End or Far End. The report will be displayed accordingly.

The Report window displays the following for each trunk and bearer:

ESR - Errored Second Ratio. The ratio of ES to total seconds in available timeduring a fixed measurement interval.

SESR - Severely Errored Second Ratio. The ratio of SES to total seconds inavailable time during a fixed measurement interval. A one-second period containingat least 30% errored blocks.

Number of Fallbacks to VBD - The number of fax calls that were not demodulatedand were, instead, encoded via the ADPCM channel.

Percent Time FEC is Activated - The portion of reported time during which theForward Error Correction algorithm was activated.

No. of O/G Fax Calls - The number of outgoing fax calls for the report’s duration.

Unclassified - The number of fax calls that failed the classification stage.

NSS Code - The number of fax calls that originated from Non-Standard Systems.

Block - A fax transmission of a duration longer than 3 seconds. This represents thenumber of pages in a transmission.

Worst Bits Per Sample (Voice) - Voice traffic overload and represents the lowestsample used to transmit traffic during the report period.

Average No. of Overloaded Channels - Traffic overload(s). The higher the number,the worse an overload condition experienced by the system.

Voice Activity Ratio (%) - The ratio of the number of non pre-assigned TCs whichare classified as voice-active, to the total number of non pre-assigned TCs.

FOF - Voice Freeze Out Factor (%) - The ratio of competitive clip duration tovoice spurt duration.

Voice Freeze Out Excess (%) - The ratio calculated when the percentage of FOFexceeds 0.5% when averaged over a period of one minute.

Worst Voice Freeze Out - The highest FOF value measure.

Accumulated Peak Values

The data included in this section include both values measured and exact time. Thismay be of help in trying to prepare a terminal activity and traffic loads profile.

Max. Voice Activity Ratio % - The maximum value of the portion of the beareroccupied by speech traffic during the report period that is an indication of speechtraffic load.

Worst Average Bits Per Sample - The worst (lowest) average of BPS for the reportperiod - an indication of speech traffic overload.

Worst Voice Freezeout % - The ratio of the number of non pre-assigned TCsclassified as voice-active but not connected, to the total number of of non pre-assigned TCs classified as voice-active (connected and not connected).

Max. Data Activity Ratio % - This is the maximum value of the portion of thebearer occupied by data traffic during the report period - an indication of data trafficload.

Worst Data Freezeout % - The highest Data-related Freeze Outs that is, anindication of data traffic overload.

The reasons for transmitting fax calls as undemodulated traffic (throughADPCM/LD-CELP). This field contains several sub-fields:

Demodulators Shortage - An indication of traffic overload and/or a shortage of Faxcards.

Unclassified - An indication of the number of calls that the system could not classifyclearly as fax calls.

Fax Bank Shortage - An indication of an overloaded bearer.

NSS Code - This is an indication of the number of fax calls that originated withmachines not supported by the system. These calls are transmitted thoughADPCM/LD-CELP.

Accumulated Control Channel Error Performance ReportThe Accumulated Control Channel Error Performance Report, shown below,contains accumulated CC Error data for bearer traffic. To open this report, select itand click open report in the Open Report window.

The Report window contains following displays and fields:

From - The report’s date and the time.

Statistic Interval - A display to inform the user of the pre-determined interval thatpasses between updates of the requested report.

The report’s table contains the following information about the assigned destination(s):

• Average BER - The ratio of the number of bit errors identified in the controlchannel during the STI over the total number of bits received in the controlchannel times the number of minutes in the STI.

• BER Excess (%) - The percentage ratio of the time during which the average BERexceeds 10E-3 over the CC Bits per One minute times the number of STI minutes.

• Unavailable Seconds (%) - The percentage ratio of the period of unavailableseconds during an STI period over the number of second in the STI (see G.821).

• Severely Errored Seconds (%) - The percentage ratio of available seconds withan error rate bigger than 10E-3 over the number of seconds in the STI. Availableis defined according to ITU G.821.

• DCME Frame Alarm Sec - The number of seconds during which a DCMEframe alarm was activated.

Print/Save Report

The Print/Save Report window is displayed by pressing the Print/Save button in theOpen Reports window. It is used to set the required parameters for theprinting/saving of a selected report.

The Print/Save Report window contains the following fields and displays:

• Report - The report selected for printing or for saving to a file.

• From - The starting date and time of the required report.

• To - Using the Day and Time pull-down menus, select the latest date and time tobe covered by the requested report.

• Default Printer - The default printer selected as the output device for the report.

The window contains the following buttons:

Save to File - To open a secondary window to set the parameters of the file whichthe report will be saved as.

Print - To initiate printing of the selected report.

Preview - Click this button to see a monitor preview of the report prior to printing it.

Cancel - To cancel the Print/Save operation and close the Print/Save Reportwindow.

ACO - Alarm Cut off

If an audio alarm is activated by a terminal in the cluster, click once the ACO optionto turn it off. It is also possible to turn off an activated alarm by clicking once on theACO Tool Icon, located below the Cluster window of pull down menus.

File ManagementThe DBF files generated by the OPS are stored at a pre-defined directory at the OPS-360 station. The directory name may be set through the dbfConfig application.

DBF files are collected from the OPS-360 station by the third party system, throughFTP, for example. DBF files must be removed periodically (according to the settime interval) in order to save disk space.

Note : While the OPS-360 writes information to DBF files, these files cannot be accessed. Allinaccessible DBF files will carry the extension *.pre , indicating that they are currently being prepared.The database files may be accessed once the extension changes to *.dbf .

File StructureEach report has its own set of DBF files. Each DBF file includes the report recordsfrom the specified time interval at all the terminals at the site. The number ofrecords per report within the time interval depends on the STI value defined for theterminal configuration.

File NamesReport information is composed of Main and Trailer DBF files. A complete trafficreport consists of 3 files: Traffic Main, Traffic Cliques and Traffic Destinations.

Note: It is advisable to download Trailer files only with the appropriate Main files.

OMCP Monitor Reports Session

OMCP Monitor Reports Session on theOPS-360The OMCP Monitor Report Session allows the OPS-360 operator to generate andproduce various reports relating to the status of the terminals. The operator may alsoobtain information about routine requirements, system statistics, and various types ofmalfunctions.

The OPS Monitor enables the OPS-360 operator to view OMCP monitor applicationwindows. These windows may be viewed on any monitor directly connected to theOMCP card.

This appendix includes all of the OMCP Monitor Reports available for viewing andprovides instructions for the OPS-360 operator on how to open a report, close areport, display other reports, and return to the Main Menu.

Refer to Chapter 5, Site and Cluster Window for detailed descriptions andexplanations regarding the specific fields and terms used in each report.

Opening an OMCP Monitor Reports SessionTo open an OMCP Monitor Reports Session:

1. In the OPS-360 Monitor, click a cluster in the Site window; the Cluster windowof the OPS-360, in the case of the figure below, a cluster of four OPS-360terminals, is displayed.

2. From the Cluster window, select a specific terminal.

3. From the Menu Bar of the Cluster window, choose Terminal .

The Erase History Reports option allows the operator to delete the log of all eventsand alarms contained in the History Reports.

To delete information from the History Reports, go to the Reports Main Menu andtype 6 ( “Erase History ” ) .

The confirm that the information has been deleted, type 5 (“History”). The HistoryReport will not contain any report information.

Built-in Test (BIT)

The Built-in Test Report window, shown below, displays information regardingbuilt-in tests of the DTX-360.

The Built-in Test (BIT) circuits and software are the main tools used by the cards forself-regulation and trouble-shooting.

The BIT enables automatic identification of any failed card in the system. The BIToutputs are used to trigger actions such as management reports, redundancyswitching, system reset, maintenance, alarms, etc.

Three Built-in Test Reports are available for viewing:

Init BIT

Communication BIT

Online BIT

Viewing options for accessing each type of report appear at the bottom of thewindow.

To view a desired option, type the number and press ENTER.
