Pre Apprenticeship Programme - NCFE Level 1, Awards in Job Search and Interview Skill

Introduction to the qualificationThe qualification is designed to equip students with the skills they need to find and secure the right job for them. The objectives are to help students to:Identify realistic job goalsDevelop the skills and mindset which are most attractive to employersApply for jobs within the open and closed job marketsPrepare for and secure a job interviewGain sustained employment.

This is achieved with the completion of four unitsUnit 01 - Preparing to achieve own job goalsUnit 02 - Promoting yourself and preparing for a job interviewUnit 03 – Problem solving at workUnit 04 – Working in a Team

As part of the Apprenticeship programme Chichester College offers you the opportunity to develop skills to progress onto an Apprenticeship. This course will help provide a range of skills to prepare you for your apprenticeship and progression into the workplace.

This qualification is suitable for students aged between 16-18 and builds on the ABC of Attitude, Behaviour and Communication - to develop the skills that employers are looking for and to give learners an edge in a competitive climate. The qualification is ideal for students who’d like to significantly improve their career prospects and understand the qualities that are most attractive to employers.

The 12 Week Programme

During the twelve weeks you are on The Prince's Trust Programme, you will take part in a variety of activities that are designed to help you develop and improve skills.

Week 1 - Induction Week Getting to know other Team membersTeam Building/Problem Solving ActivitiesSetting Targets and Action Plans for your Personal DevelopmentPlanning for the Residential

Week 2 -The ResidentialYou and the team will travel to an Outdoor centre to attend a five day residential programme. You will be given opportunities to take part in activities that you may never have tried before, such as climbing, raft building, archery and abseiling. All activities are led by fully qualified instructors. Accommodation, meals and transport are also provided.

Week 3 - Planning for the Community Project You and your team will find a project that helps people in the community.

Such as: you may decide to build a pond for a school, or redecorate a hostel for homeless people. As part of a team you will have to plan how to complete the work and raise donations for materials you may require.

You will improve your leadership skills, as you will become leader for a day, where you will have to direct the other team members to achieve the task.You will also choose a work placement that you would like to do in weeks 7 & 8.Continue with qualification work

Weeks 4 & 5 - Working on the Community ProjectNo project is the same. Your team will operate co-operatively, sharing the tasks, supporting one another, sharing your knowledge with each other and take responsibility ensuring the project is completed on time.

Week 6 - Reviews and Preparation for Work placements During this week you will spend time putting together evidence for your C&G Qualification. Preparation for your individual placement will take place this week as well as your second Individual Review with your Project Coordinator, so that you are able to discuss your progress and set new targets for yourself.

Weeks 7 & 8 - Individual Work PlacementsDuring these two weeks you will get the opportunity to get work experience in an area that interests you. Your Project Coordinator and Education Coordinator will have helped you to organise this placement. It will be up to you to get as much experience as you can during the placement. You will be expected to work enthusiastically and treat it as if a job. Your Project Coordinator will visit your work placement to make sure you are happy about your work placement and observe your progress

Week 9 - Next StepsYou will be back in the team room where you will think about what you would like to do after the programme has finished. You will undertake job search, CV writing, interview skills, career research and a variety of opportunities will be presented to you for work, training, voluntary and Prince's Trust Business Programme.

Weeks 10 & 11 - The Final Team ChallengeWorking together as a team you have to plan and carry out another community project. However this time you will be working with people in the community. There is a wide range of projects to do, for example you might decide to take out a group of disabled children out for a day to the sealife centre and spend time with the elderly arranging activities for them to complete. Again you will have to think about how you will raise money for equipment to undertake the project.

Week 12 - The Final PresentationDuring the last week you will be planning how to celebrate your achievements with a presentation evening.Councillors, organisations interested in the Prince's Trust, people in the community that you helped out, friends and family will attend.You will produce a presentation explaining what you have achieved on the programme and in what way it has benefited you. You will receive certificates (signed by HRH The Prince of Wales), which are presented to you. At the end there will be a light buffet and drinks where you will be able to make new contacts helping you to take the next step.You will complete any unfinished work for your qualification so that it is able to be sent to the assessor.

Hopefully a large majority of the team will have found jobs or will be going on to do education or training or volunteering.
