WHAT DOES AN OPENING

SEQUENCE

Page 2: Opening sequences (and what they should do?)

Opening Sequences happen at the start of the movie. The purpose of them is to introduce you to the world, the main characters and the basic plot. They do this so they can try and drop the audience into the world of the film with the characters, and immersing them so that they want to watch on.

OPENING SEQUENCE

Every title sequence starts or ends with the title of the film being shown. Deadpool (right) is an unconventional example of this, as most movies do this in big bold font, whereas Deadpool’s title is displayed more subtly.

TITLE OF THE FILM

Outline all of the companies/people that are involved in the making of the film. This would usually consist of the publishing and production companies. As seen with the Children of Men titles (left) it starts with the presenting company, followed by the company that made the film.

OUTLINE THE PEOPLE INVOLVED

The job of the movie is to immerse the audience into the world. This is by introducing them to the characters and the basic plotline. This will make the audience want to watch on, to see what will happen in the aftermath. Finding Nemo (Middle), does this extremely well, showing Marlin losing everything he has right at the start of the film, immediately making us sympathize with him.
