I thank You, My Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger. Keep me this day also, from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. Into Your hands I commend my body and soul and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen!

Welcome to Faith Lutheran Church! We’re glad to be able to worship with you! We pray that our time together may build each of us up in faith in Jesus Christ and encourage one another in our service to Him in our lives.

The order of worship is printed in this bulletin. Except for the opening and closing hymns, you'll find the hymns in Christian Worship: A Lutheran Hymnal. The entire service is also projected on the screen.

We thank the Lord that there are multiple ways for us to come together as a congregation in Christ to worship our Risen Lord and Savior. May the Lord richly bless you today as you worship wherever you may be!

You might ask, “What does ‘Easter’ mean?” While the origins of the word itself are a bit dubious, the reason we celebrate is clear: Today we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord. On this Sunday we rejoice that Jesus rose from the dead and we will too!

“Christ is risen!” “He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” These ancient phrases, known as the Paschal (Easter) greeting, have been customary salutations among Christians on Easter morning since the days of the early Church. This greeting adorns our worship today, too. The words “He is risen!” remind us of the joyous news we celebrate at Easter: Jesus’ resurrection gives us hope, joy, peace and eternal life. He is risen indeed!

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Happy Easter!

The Invocation

The Liturgy for the Resurrection of Our Lord

℗ Beloved in the Lord, we have sinned against our God,

© And we are surely deserving of eternal death.

℗ But Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins,

© And raised to life for our justification.

℗ God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death,

© Because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him.

℗ God will credit righteousness also to us—

© For us who believe in Him Who raised Jesus our Lord from

the dead.

℗ Jesus Himself said that whoever believes in Him shall not perish,

© But have eternal life.

℗ Upon this, your confession, I announce the grace of God to you. By the merits of our Risen Lord—Jesus Christ—your sins are forgiven and you are an heir of eternal life in the name of the Father and of the Son (†) and of the Holy Spirit!

© Amen!

℗ The Lord be with you.

© And also with you.

℗ Let us pray: Almighty God, by the glorious resurrection of Your Son Jesus

Christ You conquered death and opened the gate to eternal life. Grant that we may walk in newness of life and ever rejoice in the hope of sharing His glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to Whom, with You and the Holy Spirit be power and dominion and glory and praise now and forever!

© Amen!

The First Lesson: Jonah 2:2-9

℗ This is the Word of our Lord!

© Thanks be to God!

The prophet Jonah found himself caught in the struggle between life and death. Trapped in the belly of a giant fish for three days, he was certain that his fate was decided. He called out to the LORD for help and trusted the God who saves to deliver him.

“In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. 3 You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. 4 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’ 5 The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me. 6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God. 7 When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple. 8 Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. 9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD.”

The Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 15:19-26

If it If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more

than all men.

20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those

who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection

of the dead comes also through a man. 22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all

will be made alive. 23 But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when

he comes, those who belong to him. 24 Then the end will come, when he hands

over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion,

authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under

his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

If Jesus had not been raised from the dead, we would have no reason to celebrate Easter, no reason to go to church at all; we would have nothing to live for. But Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Because He lives, we also will live!

The Verse of the Day: Psalm 118:24 ℗ Alleluia! Alleluia! “This is the day the Lord has made; let

us rejoice and be glad in it!” Aleluia!

Paschal Greeting

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

It was still dark when the women went to Jesus’ tomb. They walked in shadow to pay their last respects to their Lord. Their sadness and fear, however, was replaced with boldness and joy as their salvation was made sure. Christ is risen! Alleluia!
