When More Scripps launched in November 2013, campus leadersidentified a new residence hall as the most critical building priority within the $175million campaign.Less than a year later, Scripps received a generous $10million lead naming gift to advance the project, which is being temporarily identified as NEW Hall.
Thanks to that $10million gift, and a $1.1million early gift from the Georgia B. Ridder Foundation, Scripps is poised to begin construction. However, additional support is needed to complete the approximately $25million project.
Naming gift opportunities to support NEW Hall are available. For moreinformation, please contact your personal advancement officer, or the office of Institutional Advancement at (909) 621-8638.

Thanks to a generous $ million lead gift from an anonymous donor, shovels are poised to break ground in May , for NEW Hall at Scripps College. NEW Hall will be located northwest of the SallieTiernan Field House, and the building is scheduled for completion in fall .
Designed in harmony with the distinctive look of the originalcampus, NEW Hall will feature walks and vistas characteristic of our founder’s vision. The design reflects the Mediterranean style of architecture popular in southern California during the s and s that has earned Scripps a place in the National Registerof Historic Places and a reputation as one of the nation’s mostbeautiful campuses.
Plans for NEW Hall embody the sense of place and visual texture that decades of Scripps students recall with great fondness—serenecourtyards and grounds, as well as tastefully appointed interior spacesthat provide a home away from home. Common areas include an entry hall, the Georgia B. Ridder Living Room, browsing room,kitchen/recreation area, laundry room, and computer room.
The plan’s residential area provides a total of about beds in a combination of singles, doubles, and a one-bedroom director’sapartment. Space provided by NEW Hall will enable the flexibility to reconfigure some existing residence hall rooms: existing triplerooms will become doubles; eight doubles will be reconfigured as singles; bunk beds will be eliminated; and the number of suites will increase. Students choosing to live on their own in singles will have more opportunity to do so.

building features NEW Hall will embrace a new era of architecture. It is designed to LEED gold standards and will feature low-flow water fixtures, high-efficiency lighting, Energy Star appliances, and drip irrigation, amongother environmentally friendly assets. NEW Hall will also be entirelyADA accessible.
Perhaps the most important element of sustainable construction atScripps is buildings that are designed to withstand the tests of time. While other colleges tear down residence halls built in the s and earlier to replace them with newer designs, Scripps builds its hallsto last.
