Since its beginning, the University of Jamestown has educated men and women of character who are prepared to embrace the opportunities and meet the challenges of modern life. Inspired by a future filled with new possibilities, the trustees, administration, faculty and staff invite you to join us in a leadership role as we embark on a $60 million campaign. Through the Opening Doors Transforming Lives campaign we will build vitally needed facilities, grow the endowment, fund scholarships, provide support for faculty, and create new programs of distinction for the University of Jamestown.

Our success at the University of Jamestown depends on its people – the students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends who keep Jamestown’s mission alive. Rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, we hold fast to our Christian principles and liberal arts ideals as we shape new and existing programs and curriculum. We exist to educate the whole person and to graduate students who are inspired and equipped to lead impactful lives. To do so, we cannot rest on what is, but must continue to be a university that prepares men and women of the highest character for success. Please join us as we reimagine a standard of excellence for the University of Jamestown. In this rapidly changing world, small colleges stand at a crossroads. A university which does not meet the challenges of a changing higher education landscape is destined for irrelevance. But, a university which marshals the wisdom and support of its people to meet those challenges changes lives. Realizing that any entity is no more effective than those who participate in it, we ask that you join us on this journey.

Transforming LivesWhat does it mean to be a University that Opens Doors and Transforms Lives?

University of Jamestown has developed a culture of flexibility, collaboration, and teamwork. An environment rich with opportunity for students to learn while fulfilling their passion for athletic, artistic and/or civic and community involvement, University of Jamestown has risen to the top among North Dakota schools in the rankings of U.S. News and World Report, and has been named North Dakota’s most influential college or university. Our graduates include leaders in business, medicine, law, education, science and technology, church and community. To remain a quality university in an evolving world, we must continue to invest in areas of excellence that set us apart. With the expansion of careers in science, technology, engineering and math, we must be mindful of the opportunities these fields offer our students. Through this campaign, the University seeks to develop graduate programs in the health sciences and an undergraduate program in engineering. These programs will unite the University of Jamestown’s liberal arts experience with the professional training and rigor associated with such programs. With your help, we will develop new programs that will capitalize on our diverse strengths and empower the creative capacity and confidence of our students and faculty in order to equip them for success.

$21 million Gifts totaling $21 million will allow us to create and enhance offerings in the following programs:• Doctor of Physical Therapy• Mechanical Engineering• Science and Nursing • Graduate Programs in the Health Sciences and Leadership

Home is a word used often to describe the University of Jamestown. Those who have experienced the campus personally know that one of our greatest responsibilities is to steward this special place we called home. We must preserve and protect our campus and ensure that it meets the diverse needs of future generations. Of primary importance are the athletic and recreational spaces that support our student-athletes, and promote school spirit and campus community by providing a “home” for both varsity and junior varsity competition and intramural activities. Appropriately aligned with the University’s commitment to academic excellence, over $60 million has been invested throughout the past 20 years to support the infrastructural needs of the academic programs, the performing arts, and the residential and dining experience for our students. Now it is time to support our student-athletes by providing them with on-campus athletic facilities including an arena, locker rooms, coaches’ offices, and spaces for training, rehabilitation, and intramurals. Sixty percent of our student population participates in one or more of our 16 varsity sports, and many more desire space for wellness and intramural activities. As well, space for student leadership and social interaction must be enhanced. The need for improved facilities is critical.

to Athletic and Co-Curricular Excellence

University of Jamestown’s endowment is valued at more than $36 million and provides nearly $2 million annually to support the University’s needs. As all of higher education adjusts to the mounting pressures for lower cost options, endowment will become an even greater differentiator between institutions that thrive and those that falter. With nearly $8 million of financial assistance provided annually to students, the need to increase our endowment is a core challenge and opportunity of this campaign. Through endowed gifts, donors have an opportunity to support student scholarships, faculty development, and to create a lasting influence on the programs and experiences that mean the most to them. As we consider the future of the University of Jamestown, we seek to secure $15 million in gifts to our endowment and $5 million to support annual operations, the largest portion of which supports annual scholarships for our students. Each time a donor supports an endowed scholarship or a Jimmie Generation Annual Scholarship, a simple truth is stated: We believe in the University of Jamestown and we believe in our students. By creating endowed or annual scholarships, donors pass on a permanent and potent legacy – the opportunity for others to live up to their promise and to influence the communities in which they serve – to transform lives.
