and fantasy. What’s real to you?

In a second gallery space at Leeds Art Gallery, Savvas shows off her

3D geometric shapes of varying siz-es made from wood. The shapes, some of which are split open whilst others remain complete, have been designed

and crafted according to a meticulous-ly worked mathematic formula. Savvas

then uses wool and steel to create her own unique moiré motif on the surfaces of the shapes. Alongside these struc-tures, seven moiré black and white

paintings use the same mathematic for-mula, and are in effect, painted rep-

resentations of the 3D shapes.Savvas’ geometric work is almost ‘un-real’ given the size and how accurate it is considering the media it is cre-ated out of. The work clearly indi-cates Open Up’s new trend pack and

what it is all about. It’s amazing how a flat mathmatical drawing can develop

into amazing 3D sculptures!
