Open Journal Systems (OJS)
• OJS is an open access journal management and publishing system
• It assists with every stage of the refereed publishing process, from submissions through to online publication and indexing
• Developed by the Public Knowledge Project in partnership with– the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia– the Simon Fraser University Library– the School of Education at Stanford University
Under the hood
• OJS is installed locally and locally controlled• Editors configure their requirements, manage
sections review submissions and more• Content is submitted and managed online• Content is comprehensively indexed• Readers are notified by email• Reading tools based on field and editors’ choice

What do we do?
Use OJS to manage a service called Open Publish We host six journals:
– Australian Victorian Studies Journal– Australian Journal of Adoption– Journal of the Association for the Study of Australian
Literature– Labour and Management in Development– National Library of Australia Staff Papers– Reviews in Australian Studies
• Work with journal managers to facilitate this process
What are our objectives?
Capture content at time of creation in a format suitable for long-term preservation and access
Improve access to Australian content Work collaboratively to produce an online open
access journal hosting service Develop a suitable model for the deposit or
future deposit of online publications Provide practical knowledge of online journal
publishing issues
